I enjoyed the first episode. It was slow as others have commented but I enjoy that pacing. A show doesn't always have to be high energy for it to be enjoyable.

Clive has really aged but he looks good. I found the acting well done. My favourite character so far is Teresa's grandmother. She is a piece of work for sure. I think Teresa will be an interesting character as well.

The last scene was truly horrific and heartbreaking!! I did not see that coming. It takes a real sadistic person to do something like that.

I hope the coming episodes are as strong as this one. I will say as I always do that I do not enjoy British people trying to imitate how Americans sound. It just sounds nasally and ridiculous but Clive does an okay job.

Hard boiled Private eye Sam Spade came to the south of France to deliver a small girl to his father in 1955. He was not around and placed the girl in a convent.

Sam Spade stuck around and married a local woman. Now it is 1963, Sam Spade is widowed and his health is not so good. The father of the girl has finally reared his head.

In the last few years American television has been keen on making noirish thrillers. I Am the Night and the Perry Mason reboot come to mind.

Very stylishly made, great period art direction and costumes. Those vintage cars have been buffed up. It looks splendid and the money has been lavished to bring it to the screen.

Unfortunately only ten bucks was spent on the script. That languid hard boiled pace. It is pure filler. Dead space filled with music rather than any plot development.

I felt guilty for pulling my punches on the rebooted Perry Mason. Hoping it would get better, finally find its groove. Only when the makes pulled the plug, I could finally say it was a bit rubbish.

No need to to the same for Monsieur Spade. The first episode is garbage. If you want to slip into a coma, this is perfect.

As for the plot, the writers did not have one for the first episode.
