Sex & Nudity
-
- During the play scene, a man removes a red patch in the front of his pants and a slinky dangles out. This is odd, but not overly vulgar, and it will most likely not even be noticed/understood by children.
- During Ophelia's insanity, she removes her dress and is shown in only a bra and underwear for a couple of minutes.
Violence & Gore
-
- The ending is tragic. See below in the "Frightening and Intense Scenes" category. Not portrayed in a remotely graphic or bloody way, however.
- A few flesh wounds are shown. Gore is minimal.
Profanity
-
- There is no profanity of any kind in this film.
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking
-
- It is mentioned how Claudius is a drunk and has a drunken revelry every night. This, however, is not condoned by the play, and the noble characters look down upon those who participate.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
-
- The atmosphere is mildly dark and foreboding, but this is in keeping with the play itself.
- The appearance of the ghost is a mildly scary scene, but not over the top.
Spoilers
Violence & Gore
- Polonius is shot by Hamlet through the mirror with a gun.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
- Laertes poisons Hamlet with his sword; Hamlet takes that sword from him and does the same to him. Gertrude accidentally kills herself drinking a poison drink. Upon realizing his uncle's plot, Hamlet forces him to drink from the cup as well. None of this is gory.
