Season 2 of Euphoria was shot on discontinued Kodak Ektachrome 35MM film, initially developed in the 1940s. Famous for its beautiful color, fine grain, and rich renditions of saturated colors, it also renders a diversity of skin tones beautifully.
Sam Levinson reached out to Kodak personally to see if they could get enough film for an entire season after it was discontinued in 2013. Kodak rebuilt various parts of the factory to provide enough film for the director and temporarily put the film back into production just for the show.
The song Rue raps along to is "Hit 'Em Up" by 2Pac (Tupac Shakur), a fierce dis track aimed at The Notorious B.I.G. Then, when the party scene begins, we hear "Hypnotize" by the very same The Notorious B.I.G. The two rappers feuded with each other and were both murdered in the 90s.
In the scene where Rue, Fez, and Faye are asked to get undressed while the drug dealer guy is dancing, the song "Right Down the Line" by Gerry Rafferty starts playing. This scene plays a tribute to one of Reservoir Dog's most famous scenes where Mr. Blonde is also dancing to "Stuck in the Middle with You" by Stealers Wheel as he cuts a guy's ear and tries to set him on fire with gasoline. It must be noted that Gerry Rafferty is a member of Stealers Wheel.
Right before Nate aggressively confronts McKay about sleeping with Cassie at the house party, a tower of beers can be seen on the counter. This is a reference to Trevor Stachura's Modelo Christmas tree from Britt and Carol's 2021 Christmas party.
