Cars, crime, controversy. Why yes it's Grand Theft Auto of course.
Jules4519 April 2010
It seems like fans finally got the explosive ending (I mean that quite literally) they were waiting for in this Grand Theft Amazing of a finale of the fourth series.

Luiz Lopez our final macho-man is it seems the Hugh Hefner of Liberty City - making the last two protagonists look like nuns. He also seems to top them style-wise, issue-wise, weapon-wise and about every other wise you can think of. He is loyal partner / bodyguard to 'Gay' Tony Prince, owner of two glitzy glamorous nightclubs in the otherwise mundane outside world.

Obviously being considered a critically acclaimed game you won't be bouncing every night until 'Story Complete' pops up. Instead expect a damn right brilliant story you can sink your teeth into, full of the usual yet still refreshing and more enjoyable tale of backstabbing, jealousy, Russian rockers and Yusuf Amir. This character has to be given particular praise for his bad dancing to 'Arab Money' and hilarious conversations with Luis, calling him every name under the offensive sun.

Like the two previous mass murdering characters, Luis isn't a cheery fellow (despite being a rampant rabbit) and it's roughly ten minutes before everything goes guns up and he actually has a reason to be unhappy. If Tony isn't calling him for help it's his mum in trouble, if his mum isn't in trouble it's Yusuf wanting to show off his 'bling'. But it seems Rockstar has listened to the fans about returning to it's beloved San Andreas roots and made one the most fun, challenging and volatile GTA's to date.

The parachute is back. Tanks are back. Well I say tanks, I mean a single tank which is the most unstoppable machine on wheels, so unless there is a twenty meter wall of steel or a basket of puppies in your way, it's unlikely nothing except will power is going to stop this bad boy. Weapondary has also seen some relentless improvements such as the terrorist friendly sticky bombs and a M249 SAW which packs a bigger punch than Rocky.

So, GTA fan or not this is certainly a near perfect DLC the fans, fanboys and fanatics have needed, to break out of the serious side of Liberty City and start diving and gliding out of whatever the hell they want to and enjoy how much fun there is still to found in this timeless series. DLC of the year? Most definitely, there's unlikely to be a more entertaining experience.

Another Fantastic Entry In The Legendary Grand Theft Auto Series.
kylehaines9631 December 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This was the other Semi-Sequel to Grand Theft Auto IV Along with The Lost And Damned.

The game is about Luis Fernando Lopez played by Mario D'Leon who is working for his boss Tony "Gay Tony" Prince at his two Gay Clubs. He is part of the famous museum mission from IV and The Lost Damned and gets his diamonds stolen. It turns out that the diamonds were stolen from Ray Bulgarin an a war ensues.

This game was over looked by the Guiness Book Of World Records because they said that the video game Mafia II Said The F-word the most during a video game story saying 397 uses during the story line. But during the story of this game were 511 uses. Take Note. Anyway the games story is awesome but the excessive use of language and some of the characters are annoying but still it is awesome. I wish you all a Happy New Year as this being my last review of the year 2011. But do not worry I will keep on reviewing 2012.

Rated M For Blood And Gore, Intense Violence, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content And Use Of Drugs And Alcohol.

511 uses of the F-word during the story line.

26 levels.

Really captures the glitz, fun and chaos really well which, with other improvements, makes for a really great game
bob the moo18 November 2010
Years ago I played a top-down view GTA game on my old PC. The graphics were basic and the idea was simple. Years later I picked up GTA4 after it had been out for a while, having not taken part in the other versions since my PC days. I really loved the scale of it and the story and, once my tenth prestige on Modern Warfare 2 was achieved, I picked up a disc with the two downloadable chapters on it. The first of these was good but it had some problems. The base for your character was the island playing the part of New Jersey – a terribly dull and grey place in the game. The gang wars were cool but required biking it for long distances. The Xbox achievement points were mostly down to "finish the game" and not spread out and generally the game seemed to be trying to be gritty and downbeat, while still allowing you to run amuck like in the main game. I liked it as an add-on but there were things about it that could have been better.

I almost wish that I had played Lost & Damned when it came out, because then i could convince myself that Rockstar listened to me. Sadly, as it was my comments came long after both chapters were released – which is a shame because The Ballad of Gay Tony is a massive improvement and pretty much everything I had pause over in Lost & Damned is addressed in this second download. The home base locations are all on Manhattan and, although you cover all of the boroughs and Jersey, it is great to be mostly around this area. The story is one of club lifestyles, drugs, wealth and excess – we still have junkies but now they are very wealthy as opposed to infected and waiting for death like they were in Lost & Damned. The weapons are souped up (AA12 and of course the wonderful sticky bombs), the vehicles are generally better and of course the buzzard and the tank being available makes "messing around" a lot easier and more fun. The parachute was new to me and I did find the base jumping challenges very hard but generally they were fun.

The cage fighting and drug wars are just two other extra things to be done outside of the main story and wisely the game achievement points have been spread across all of these so that they are more than just side activities but necessary to 100% the game. Even the dancing has achievements associated with it – an activity that I hated until I understood the instructions then I loved it – doing the bus stop was great fun. Back to the main story though. As before, it dove-tails into part of GTA4 in regards the theft and repeated theft of the bag of diamonds. This is good stuff and is satisfying to see things come together. The alternative view on Brucie is an example of the story being pretty clever and I did respect it for working with that character a little. Luis is one cool character and I enjoyed playing that role a lot. Of course in terms of characters all come second to the addition of Yusuf Amir, who is hilariously over the top and very well voiced by UK comedian Omid Djalili. His cut scenes are among the best and his missions are generally the most outrageously over the top (stealing a subway train and airlifting it out of the city!!). All of the missions are fun though and most of the cut scenes get the balance right between being entertaining and instructional while not running too long to make you feel like you're not being allowed to play the game! The Ballad of Gay Tony is not only a great downloaded extra, but it is easily a great game if you pick it up for itself. The many little distractions give it life, while the exaggerated action and glitzy characters give the game a real sense of OTT fun that the Lost & Damned didn't manage. Even after all the time I'd spent in Liberty City by the time I started this game, it still managed to be fresh, fun and entertaining.

Never Judge The Name Of The Game
kervindonngo6 November 2022
The 2nd and last but not least of Episodes from Liberty City is The Ballad Of Gay Tony. This story is about a Dominican American bodyguard named Luis Lopez who works with legendary nightclub impresario Tony Prince who is in debt with the Ancelotti Family then Luis goes to the bank until the 4 bank robbers showed up that takes place in GTA IV's Three Leaf Clover which 3 members survived with the money while one member got killed off by a gun club member while Luis is a hostage. And then he goes back to Tony's Apartment about what happened in the bank. Unlike the dark story in The Lost and Damned, The Ballad of Gay Tony absolutely shines light into it and gives more extra fun with positive vibes. One of my favorite features is that this game has Nightclubs where you can party as much as you want until it's closed. You can drink in the bar or take whole champagne in a drinking contest in the VIP lounge (except Hercules). But the best part of the game is that this game has a dance floor because it has the bus stop group dances. Just like TLAD again special abilities are also unlocked. Armando has the ability to use the Gun Van while Henrique has the ability to get vehicles but with cars instead of bikes. Sadly, they don't have the ability to call for backup. But at least they are useful in Drug Wars that do have a need of calling them. For the weapons, in TBOGT only 5 weapons were removed from TLAD but brought seven additional weapons in the game. One of my 3 favorite weapons in the game is the Automatic Shotgun because you can replace the normal shell with explosive shells, Advanced MG in facing armored enemies, and the Gold SMG because not just is it powerful but I can make a name for myself while playing Luis. The features are different from TLAD and GTA IV but it is still amazing to play this to learn more about the story.

Glamorama
nikitalinivenko28 October 2019
This installment jacks the GTA: San Andreas ambiance and imports it to Liberty City, with new features & mini-games (top-down golf, sky-diving, dancing, club bouncing) some of which get tiresome semi-quickly and are only worth pursuing for the odd achievement. All that out of the way, there's a reason why this is one of the most celebrated entries in the franchise - essentially coming off as a quasi take on Bret Easton Ellis' 'Glamorama', this lights-flashing, dance, dance, raining-confetti-but-the-confetti-are-bullets, the-party-never-stops, glitz'n'glamour high-life after-hours side of L.C. pumps up the volume on the over-caffeinated city that never sleeps (or quits coughing up blood). Missions include rampaging thru town in a S.W.A.T. tank, hijacking a train car, an assault on a yacht via attack chopper, and for the finale, catching a flight that ends up going down in flames while you parachute to safety. It's a rave you won't want to quit anytime soon.

Party vibes incarnate
Severinplates85329 January 2022
A tier, 8/10. Definitely a breath of fresh air from the bleak realism of the rest of the GTA 4 saga, much more light hearted than either of the other two stories.

It definitely feels like they looked at the complaints about GTA 4 and catered towards them. The lighting is much brighter, the missions are much more fun and whislt being a bit too crazy are still really refreshing and enjoyable. With the exception of an awful helecopter mission and having to loose wanted level after nearly every mission. It's better than in the other parts but having to losing your wanted level ends up being more of a fustration. It doesnt detract from the missions to much but is still incredibly fustrating.

The story and characters are much more over the top and it doesn't feel as high stakes as the other stories. The game definitely has that GTA 5 energy with the same kind of tone and humor. It is very refreshing and different but I definitely prefer Niko's story as the best.

The atmosphere at the clubs always feels so bright, compared to the bleakness of the city l. Seeing characters from the other storys appear was just as great as in the lost and the damned. Roman is just so good.

The mission checkpoints are kept here which is still great. The new weapons are even more over powered than in lost and the damned. The special combat shotgun thing is literally and instant kill. The p90 is such a great assault rifle. Probably my favorite selection of weapons out of any GTA game.

The new dance mechanic in the club is fun and teh music is still as great as the rest of GTA 4. The vice city radio definitely fits this DLC really well.

A great and very different experience to the other parts of GTA 4. The actual missions are much better in general even if the story is a bit weaker than the main game. Definitely spent allot of the game thinking about a tv show with Robert Downey Jr as Gay Tony. Out if all the GTA games GTA 4 would easily make the best tv show.

In short a very different and refreshing story, definitely worth playingif you are a fan of GTA 5.

Best DLC Ever Made
arminezati-3939827 March 2022
The Ballad of Gay Tony is the best DLC in history for me The DLC story may not be as compelling as the original game story, but it has a high overall quality The gameplay is really amazing, the variety of stages is extremely high and can keep the player busy for hours. Side activities are really fun too The variety of weapons has also increased and we are seeing a lot of weapons The movements of the main character have also become smoother, although I liked the character control system in the main game more A new type of helicopter has been added to the game, which is really attractive A parachute has also been added to the game and its control has become much better and lighter compared to SAN ANDREAS The technical and artistic graphics have not changed from the main game and are still of high quality In general, the quality of this DLC is extremely high, be sure to try it !!

Gta 4 Bogt
DesertDogMedia2 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Title: Gta 4: The Ballad of Gay Tony

Developed by: Rockstar North

Completion Time: 6 hours

Storyline: With this being the 2nd game of the Episodes of the Episodes of Liberty City it ha a very similar similar look and feel to Tlad and the main game. The opening scene starts with the main character walking through Liberty City after being caught in a bank job. The first clip shows cameos of both Niko and Johnny before introducing us to Tony. A couple things are different compared to Tlad, the first is that each mission will have objectives that will add up to your total score, these can range from time you too, to player/vehicle damage and so on. In this game, you will get more advanced weaponry compared to Tlad. You also get more of a backstory of your character, such as he was a former US Marine and he went to prison for drugs related crimes. You can also change his clothes into 5 different outfits. In the first actual mission you see Billy arranging to have Johnny and Jim killed in the cutscene, this leads back to the point I made in the review of Tlad, to fully grasp everyones storyline, you need to play both side games Tlad and Tbogt and watch their cutscenes. If you enter the cage fighting as a challenge, you will be fighting 3 guys per round for about 5 rounds or so. Depending on your fighting skills it can be easy or hard, especially when the challengers come in with actual melee weapons such as knives and baseball bats after the 3rd round, but they are not to be underestimated as knives can do lots of damage quickly, baseball bats aren't as much of a threat as they can do damage, but they are also a lot slower to fight with. The only way you can describe Yusuf is that he is an Arabian guy trying to act black, but it falls flat like a white guy trying to act like a black gangster. His missions will generally consist of you having to steal expensive or odd things for him. But for all his annoyances he comes in handy in the final mission. His first mission will have operating an attack helicopter, a word of advice for all helicopter missions is to make sure you can do them during the daytime, this will make them so much easier. Tony buys diamonds with borrowed money and needless to say they get robbed, but thankfully you're able to find out where they are being held and you're able to get them back. In the later missions you have to help Yusuf steal APCs and Subway trains, these are very good missions for getting cash rewards, so they are recommended if you want to buy weapons, but they generally involve a lot of killing and shooting, so bulletproofs and plenty of ammo is generally required. In the last mission for the Bulgarian you will have to go to a building to protect Timur, but once you get there you will find the decapitated head of the guy who sold you the diamonds, turns out the diamonds belonged to the Bulgarian and now he's angry. So this guy then turns into the antagonist for the last section of the game along with Rocco partly who wants his money but escapes before the Bulgarian's hit-men arrive. But in the end you are able to find Timur and the Bulgarian and kill them before they can escape the country and ruin your lives even more. But ironically the diamonds you spent most of the game trying to get back fall into the hands of a homeless man who uses them to buy wealth at the end of the credits.

Overall Feel: The thing which makes this game better than Tlad is the fact that the missions have more variety and are more interesting, while Tlad was more believable and realistic as GTA games can be, it lacked most of the enjoyment that you get with Tbogt. You get a lot better weapons in Tbogt as well, such as silenced P90 which still attracts attention regardless, automatic shotguns with exploding shells and LMGs. I do feel slightly cheated that the Silenced P90 doesn't stop you from getting caught, but you can't have it all. Speaking of which, the silenced weapons in GTA5 barely do their job regardless. My only complaint which isn't really a complaint is that it requires more to plot out the story of Tbogt compared to Tlad as Tlad had 1 simplistic storyline which you veered off slightly at times but stayed on for the rest of it. The health related challenges work off your current HP so even if you make it through a mission without losing any HP you will still lose any health challenge because your health was below what they wanted. So it pays to find hospitals/health packs alongside bulletproof vests Regardless of the general things wrong with GTA 4, if you want the best game out of GTA Tlad and Tbogt is it hands down Tbogt, mainly because its story is a lot more interesting and has characters you can actually care about unlike Tlad, the missions are much funner and varied in comparison as well. Isn't as realistic, but it is worth it. Best to play Tlad first though as if you play Tbogt first you will feel underwhelmed in comparison. The GTA series have their problems, but these are two games which you can waste a day or so on and not feel like you've wasted your money.

I run Liberty City.
ThunderKing622 November 2020
I have no complaints other than it was a bit too short and lacked more things to do.

Main protagonist was cool. He was a gangsta delivery boy for gay tony.

Gay Tony was a cool gay person. Not flamboyant at all. He was just cool.

it does add parachuting which is fun. Its just like GTA 4. Nothing different really other than characters and somewhat of the story, Which was alright.

Verdict: Great game to pastime.

Great gameplay DLC
mikecop-071106 December 2023
I have always perceived the "episodes from Liberty City" duology as two great DLCs, but each in their own way. The Lost and Damned is pretty much a perfect story DLC, which adds even more depth to the narrative themes established in GTA IV, while The Ballad of Gay Tony further improves on the gameplay by adding many things that fans have been asking for since the release of GTA IV (like parachutes, a much bigger variety of weapons and vehicles, better outfits etc.)

The story is not as amazing as in the original GTA IV or TLAD, but it's still nice to take a break from gloomy crime dramas and just immense yourself in more lighthearted "Guy Ritchie-esque" criminal shenanigans with many new gameplay features.

All in all, a great standalone DLC.

Opera in the streets
You play as Luis(D'Leon, with attitude and professionalism), a Latino and the ex-con bodyguard/business partner/platonic friend/the guy who does the dirty work of Gay Tony(not Stark, though they do look alike; Kenner, with the two having an old married couple, bickering, relationship) who owns several nightclubs. He has become something of a junkie and letting the business suffer. So he, among others, loans money from the wrong people, and you have to clean up, work off debts and take out the garbage of the wealthy. Others keep mispronouncing your name(Lou, Lewis, etc.), often on purpose. Willing to kill if you have to, you don't really want to or seek it out. You start out in the bank heist, though you do, accomplish, and contribute, zilch, nada, nothing. Along the way, you will deal with the same stolen goods and the like, including, yup, those same diamonds. We again have the lead show up somewhere the other two did, and this time, you're on the opposing side, so you fully appreciate what happened, and, thankfully, you're not just doing the exact same thing(third time's not the charm).

This has essentially no famous actors, opting for more distinct characters and voices, and the casting is good all-round. Your mother is hard on you, strong, passionate and complicated relationships between family members. You'll work for Yusuf(Djalili, a powerful Arab in love with hip-hop culture, keeps using the N-word), who, as pointed out by another character, "wants what he can't buy": he likes to have you steal military vehicles and shoot your way back out. In general, this sends a lot, at least a dozen or two, of police, some Homeland, helicopters at you, which you're well-equipped enough to take out. Brucie(Adams, roided up) constantly doing martial arts and/or physical exercising, every second. We now meet his older brother, Mori(Gurner, who is clearly where a lot of his self-esteem issues come from). You'll deal with the Russian mafia, and can meet optional minor characters. They will talk about their current situation, comment on recent events, etc. And you may be double-crossed, and change sides over the course of this.

MP remains the best part. It's just about the only way this challenges you. Almost everything you could hope for is there. While some of that goes for a lot of recent titles, this is one MP that is as chaotic, open and crazy! The guns especially work for this, with people blowing up and plowing down each other. It does feels out of place how much heavy weaponry this puts in your hands, with explosive bullets, an LMG, etc. Maybe they were worried about competing with Just Cause, Saints Row and the like – thus, they compromised their product. This comes with a server list! With filters, at that! Ranked Matches can be found, albeit few are on these days, regardless. There's also, at the time I submit this, been about two weeks straight of issues with the RSC, which keeps us off. Nevertheless, I've had few issues with it or the GFWL – others have had many, and it'll also crash. Customizing is limited to appearance, with only a handful of options, and through their combination, a bunch of choices. Modes are cut down to the bare minimum, and we're left with a more basic experience.

Less atmosphere than San Andreas which is in general better than this small and grey city. That is even more visible now that it's supposed to be glamorous. Sure, there is bright glitz in some areas, yet, it does feel out of place: Vice City delivers properly on that front. That had the help of being an entirely different setting, and one has to wonder why they tried to pull this off, given what they had to work with. The hard rock remains, as well… Like the others, this has a separate identity, which is: ethnic nobody with a record in the socialite world that he doesn't belong in. At first I didn't think I'd get into it, then, as usual, I very much did. Liberty City is based on New York, with three main islands. Bronx is Bohan, Brooklyn called Broker, Manhattan now Algonquin and Queens renamed Dukes. There is still too much of going from close to one end of the islands to the other – even if this is credible, it's annoying.

You have two friends who have stayed in the lower area they all grew up, and won't accept your offers to get them jobs in the upper class. The three of you can engage in Drug Wars: you'll all drive to a certain spot and: hijack a transport possibly in motion or take money possibly first having to ice the guy handing over the money. These gradually increases in challenge, though you aren't getting closer to some ultimate goal, since you're ripping off others', not establishing yourselves. Every 10 won unlock a new addition to your arsenal. They try to talk with you during it, but you insist they focus, perhaps because they keep going over the same lines, and either it's an attempt to prevent us from noticing by keeping them short, or they find that as annoying as we do… seriously, why not just not have them talk every few times, instead of the same lines several times. They argue, with lots of gay jokes. You can all hang out together, the two of them are just about inseparable, and one offers discounts on hardware from his van that he'll park nearby, the other will steal and deliver cars.

A number of things from the 4th game have been addressed, some improved, or even fixed. Unfortunately, the core frustrations remain: too slow movement, that in part ruins the ill-conceived cover system, tedious shootouts and repetitive gameplay.

There is a lot of strong language, bloody violence, sexuality and disturbing content in this. I recommend this only for those dedicated to trying everything in the franchise. 7/10
