Uninformed sexploitation nostalgia
lor_28 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Garbled title telegraphs the purpose of this weak porn movie from would-be Canadian wonder-boy director Eric Boisvert, a rehash of those beloved '70s drive-in "Ilsa" movies starring the one and only Dyanne Thorne. Dubious casting also hurts the half tongue-in-cheek project.

Oddly enough, Thorne's "Wanda the Wicked Warden" (its U. S. drive-in release title when I first saw it), directed by all-time cult favorite Jess Franco, had its title character actually named Greta, and worse yet, called Ilsa for homevideo reissue to honor Don Edmonds' classic Nazi movie with Thorne that preceded it.

Now, we have a veteran of fetish videos, Helena Locke, imitating Thorne not as a prison warden but rather the director of a reform school where our petite heroine Kenzie Reeves ends up. Reeves' sister Kenna James, who is nearly the only character to receive a name (Mimi) other than her acting moniker, is a cop who with the aid of her lover Shyla Jennings is out to free sis, and get the goods to put evil Helena out of business and behind actual bars herself.

Boisvert, whose Quebecois name translates to RIcky Greenwood for his screen credits in English-language cinema, likes to pay homage to old sexploitation movies with generally mild results, as in his Sweetheart Video tributes to blaxploitation, nunsploitation, roller derby and female wrestling. Here he is not up to the task, starting the picture with a dumb and inappropriate scene of newbie to school Kenzie locked up in what looks like a cheap movie jail cell. He moves on to have her subjected to a cavity search with gloved-hands by beautiful (and tall) Euro import Anny Aurora, who later emerges unconvincingly as the good guy of the story. Anything goes (including the kitchen sink) approach has film's high point when Anny nearly fists Kenzie, content previously beyond the pale for Sweetheart Video, though common enough action at Locke's main stomping ground: kink.com.

Locke facially suggests Dyanne Thorne's iconic visage with her sang froid performance, but the rest of the players are seriously miscast. Extraneous girl/girl sex by Bella Roland and lover Rocky Emerson is dull, and the principal stars, especially Shyla, Kenna and Kenzie all look like children dressing up to play adult roles, even though their birth-certificate ages technically qualify.

Director's famous penchant for underlighting most scenes is a drag, especially for a movie that only works during its lengthy XXX scenes, and even a talented pro like Penny Pax as Helena's prime henchwoman is lost in the shuffle. Ending guarantees a lousy sequel is on the way, like it or not.
