Tony Shalhoub
Ella Fitzgerald was unique. She made every note matter. Every note. Even within the note, she did things that mattered and moved the listening experience along. Tony Shalhoub does this with dialogue. More than inflection, more than decadence more than volume. It's all of that plus nuance. Shalhoub is at his best in this episode and owns the show.

Without presenting a sequential play by play or retelling the dialogue I can tell you that there are some very good moments in this episode and urge you to watch it just to see Shalhoub's brilliance.

Transitional Episode

More to do for the peripheral characters. Lots of infighting and confrontation. Midge continues to work in that burlesque house which wears a bit thin. We want to see her as more of a performer. Her parents live off her, but they are so pushy and ungrateful. The episode goes a mile a minute. I love the frantic nature of this show, even if the plot isn't advanced every time.

4 Episodes In And Nothing's Happening
CatWipp26 February 2022
The cinematography, the acting, the sets, the clothes are all as perfect as they have ever been. Only one thing is wrong: this was a show about a girl who was becoming a stand up comedienne. We are now 4 episodes in to this season and so far all she's done is a few segues in between burlesque performers. This wouldn't be a red flag if the seasons were 22 episodes long. But they're not. We're halfway through this season and nothing is happening with Midge's career. What's happening to my favorite show?

Not it anymore

Did they get new writers, cause this ain't it anymore.... Boring plotline, everyone talks too fast, but at least it was funny before, no one to like. 4 episodes in, and I start googling if others feels the same. I will stick to the end, but not enojoying.

WTF
laurelmode-7435727 February 2022
Midge is so unlikeable and I hate the story arc with her parents. The shine is off the Apple for me. Midge's continuous anger is so tired. She brings on most of her problems and she shows such a lack of insight into how her actions hurt others. There just is nothing marvelous about this show anymore. And the rapid fire dialogue is over the top. They never talk to people just at them. I survived this style with Gilmore Girls and the the style was put on steroids for this show but after awhile it becomes relentless.

Trite

This used to my favorite series however, it has become trite. The constant rapid conversations are at a point where they are over the top and give you a headache. They have taken Susie's hilarious character and made her throw the f bomb so much it's no longer funny it is just disgusting. So bummed to see this series on a downward spiral.

Not much happening, not much fscking happening
jp-20623 August 2022
There's not much happening this season. Mrs. Maisel is barely on stage. Everyone is still screaming lines at each other and there's way too much time spent on the rest of the family and not enough time on Mrs. Maisel. Plus, the swearing. There's so much swearing. I know people swore in 1960 but not like this. There wasn't this much swearing in public in 1960. Screaming and swearing. Swearing and screaming. And a strip club. My how this series has fallen.

So deeply boring !
tourneursebastien2 March 2022
What's going on ? It was until season 4 a very good series with good characters and a real narrative line. Nothing happens there, it's boring to death.

Shalhoub
drednm27 February 2022
Tony Shalhoub's character is more annoying than ever. He's not twirling in a cape in this episode but the writers find more ways for him to be annoying and without any redeeming values.

So now he's sponging off the daughter in her apartment but still pontificating to anyone who will listen and going off the deep end over stupid things. Why would anyone put up with this pompous ass?

I wouldn't ... even if he is bipolar.

Where I officially jump ship
terryf-57 February 2023
I enjoyed the first few seasons well enough, but this season just isn't doing anything for me. I stalled after the first couple episodes, but then recently tried to pick back up and finish the season. By the end of this episode, I realized that I just don't care about any of these characters anymore. Nothing's really intriguing or endearing about any of them. They all seem to make short-sighted and frustrating decisions. There's certainly nothing particularly marvelous about Mrs. Maisel herself. And her standup routines have never been very funny, making the audience laughter feel all the more forced/fake. The overall acting and set pieces continue to impress, but that's just not enough for me to keep spending time on this show. On top of all that, the amount of swearing, particularly f-words, is really just ridiculous. It's not just pointless - the excessive use seems legitimately out of character for the time and people. I don't think I'm going to miss any of this.

Lost what was great
markromero6324 February 2023
Really enjoyed first 2 seasons, 3rd lost alot.

4th took effort to get through. Most scenes in each episode are unnecessarily annoyingly loud. The forced comedy is not funny. They took what was great about the first 2 seasons and thought they should just crack up the funny personality traits 200%. The added new characters to this season are intolerable, similar to the sharp decline in additional characters in season 2. Why hasn't anyone grown as an individual? Quick witty comebacky conversations between the family members are funny once or twice. Not the whole episode. Can a realistic dialog conversation happen 1x? And can everyone please stop yelling as if listening to adults yell at each other for 4 minutes is funny.
