Great sketches, joke swap was savage but funny, and Lil Nas X's performs was so beautiful! Cold Open was so great and emotional ! Thank you SNL team for this season! Can't wait for season 47! I wish I had the opportunity to watch it live.

Another great episode!

Two great episodes in a row? A guy could get spoiled. It seemed like every sketch landed, and I'm a sucker for the joke swap. This one was particularly savage. Usually, it's lopsided and Colin holds back. He let go, this time, for one joke. I thought Michael was going to have an aneurysm telling it, he was laughing so hard. Kudos to Anya Taylor-Joy, and that Brawr sketch. Outstanding!

Great Episode

Warning: Spoilers
Anya Taylor-Joy NEEDS to get into comedy. She was phenomenal in all her sketches. Her opening monologue was great landed the jokes about "fashion week" and The Queen's Gambit, and the drug thing was funny too.

It was nice to see a reflective and emotional cold open talking about the year, they even got some good jabs at themselves. Even got Chris Rock in there too.

The sketches
  • Hollywood Squares: Unexpected, funny, best game show parody seen in a while
  • Picture with Dad: Anya's performance was phenomenal. The pleas of the dad not to have sex went on for a few seconds too long but overall not bad.

  • Making Man: Funny, goes into all the reasons why the mans body parts are strange (useless nipples, fragile balls) and the critiques from the women are great too. Then Jesus comes out, not bad.

-Pride Month Song: I'm all for pride inclusivity and celebrating pride month, but the prerecorded SNL song sketches are getting tiring and repetitive. Although they got a couple jokes in there, still probably the worst of the night.

  • Celtic Woman: Strange concept, but made it work. Aidy and Cecily's Irish accents are awesome. When they start singing Sweet Home Alabama was the funniest part.

  • College Panel: Led by Ayna and Aidy, two girls who are interviewing a cast, including Max, the cute guy and 5 other minorities who get asked the most racist/homophobic jokes. Pretty funny.

  • AMC Commercial: When I first saw the car driving down the road and a deep voice talking, I burst out laughing at the idea of the Vin Diesel parody and it just got better from there.

Musical Guest: Lil Nas X
  • 1st Song: Not a horrible song, but what the hell was the dancing. I'm a young guy, but I though that was even too far. If I wanted to see that I would have watched Magic Mike.

-2nd Song: The dancing was toned down, and we really got to see how good of a singer he was, and the song wasn't bad.

Weekend Update:
  • The Joke-Swap was, like always, hilarious and racy. Maybe the funniest part of the night.

-Jeanine Pirro: WINE!!

Great Episode, definently in top 3 this season.

Next Season, hopefully Melissa Villasenor is gone and Bowen is upgraded to repertory.

A Solid Finale to an Otherwise Rocky Season
colinputh1 June 2021
While I doubt anyone is putting SNL's 46th season in their top five or even top ten favorite seasons of all time, it's hard to put the entire blame on the show. For starters, the writers seemed to suffer from having too much material at their disposal. In the midst of a global pandemic, the largest threat in history to our nation's democracy, and the most controversial election season in the show's existence, it was probably difficult to parody a time that already felt so much like a satire. As a result, however, the season relied too heavily on the same source material, to the point at which we saw too many of the same characters and could predict the punchlines to many of the jokes.

The cast and crew also had to adhere to strict COVID-19 protocol which inevitably caused more rewrites and discarded ideas than we as viewers probably realized. What amounted, however, was a rather awkward season which (presumably due to COVID restrictions) featured episodes in which select cast members appeared too often while others were nowhere to be found.

Nevertheless, SNL sent this S46 off quite nicely. The intro was a refreshing reminder that this season came with its challenges, during which the cast was able to admit that some of the sketches were a little disorganized/not their best work.

The beautiful Anya Taylor-Joy did a standup job as host, most notably in her ability to deliver jokes in sketches that (again refreshingly) didn't consistently rely on Queen's Gambit parodies. Weekend Update was also great and Colin and Michael's jokes written for each other were once again hilarious. I was also so happy to see Pete make an appearance on WU as I think it's the platform on which he is funniest/most able to be himself. The AMC sketch went down as one of my favorites of the season, it rang true on so many levels and Beck did a great job as Vin Diesel. Lastly, Lil Nas X was amazing - his performance, though elaborate, was incredibly well choreographed and it was great to see how much fun he was clearly having on stage.

Overall, 9/10.

Good episode.
rdoubleoc26 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is a good episode, especially the news joke swap and Celtic Woman sketch, but everything else too.

It's amazing how much a good guest star makes, just like the episode with Elon Musk (even though he's not an actor and muffed some lines up, it's still more entertaining when you're familiar with the guest star -- Wario/Mario court was awesome).

The wine impersonation of Judge Janine by Cicily Strong was good too (they really need to never let her go, as she's usually always interesting to see perform).

Now if they could always make episodes as good as these ones with Joy and Musk, SNL would be be gold.

In the 90s, it is the country show, now it is the NY show

weekend update decrease funniness by 300% uses lib phrases and memes

some cast are good actors

but the political message is disturbing.
