DIRECTOR'S TRADEMARK: Despite appearing to be stop-motion animation, Ian Worthington animated the entire short using the computer modeling program Blender v2.92. For authenticity, in many shots of characters or objects floating, Worthington added obvious "fishing line" to hold the characters up as they would need to be for a real production.
According to Ian Worthington, Professor Genius's design is based on a Kenner action figure of Jabba the Hutt from Return of the Jedi. Ian thought the design was "adorable", but wanted to see a similar character who was "cool and nice and a genius" instead of a "pervert."
Ian Worthington made this short as a show of gratitude to the voice dubbing group RASH A1M, after they produced an independent Japanese dub of his Big Top Burger series. All the voice actors are people who worked on said project, and did the translation of Worthington's writing from English to Japanese; the short was released solely with Japanese audio and English subtitles, with the sole exception of a piece of music sung in English by Worthington himself.
Captain Yajima's design was inspired by Jane Fonda's portrayal of Barbarella, along with the 70s/80s Japanese pop duo Pink Lady.
DIRECTOR'S TRADEMARK: The animation style is inspired by the works of the Rankin-Bass studios, best known for their stop-motion animated Christmas films such as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. One of the most notable commonalities is the shapes of the human characters' lips resembling a soft "w", which originally enabled the animators to change spoken words and emotions by adding cutout flat mouths.
