Al B. Quirky, the wacky banana-obsessed acceptor of the award for Best Mention of Albuquerque in a Matador Cartoon (on behalf of Bully for Bugs (1953)), bears a passing resemblance to 1980s-era 'Weird Al' Yankovic, who may have been an inspiration for the character (one Al is "Weird", the other is "Quirky"). Coincidentally, "Weird Al" released a song titled "Albuquerque" on his 1999 album 'Running with Scissors'. The arrow through Al B. Quirky's head may also be a reference to comedian Steve Martin, who often incorporated a novelty arrow-through-the-head in his 1970s stand-up act.
Four of the five Bugs Bunny cartoons showcased in this episode had been featured in previous episodes of "Toon In with Me": Little Red Riding Rabbit (1944) had been featured previously in Enfermos Communication (2021), and Hillbilly Hare (1950) had been featured previously in Barnyard Bill's Yee Howdy! (2021). Baseball Bugs (1946) had been featured most recently to the Best of Bugs Bunny celebration, airing as part of The Baseball Episode (2021) exactly two weeks prior to this episode. And perennial favorite What's Opera, Doc? (1957) had been featured twice before, first in All Rhyme, No Reason (2021) and then just two days before this episode aired, in the musical-themed Best of Bugs special Ballads For A Bunny (2021). The only cartoon making its first appearance on the show is Bully for Bugs (1953).
This episode features appearances by sock puppet salmon Sockeye Sam ("Somewhat Intelligent Sock"), who serves as an awards show seat-filler for Toony, and by bean-loving railyard hobo, Boxcar, and introduces three new characters - an untamed gorilla Award Acceptor ("Totally Untrained"), sock salesman Bobby Socks ("Sells Socks"), and wacky Albuquerque non-resident Al B. Quirky ("He's Bananas").
All five featured cartoons are Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies shorts from Warner Bros. starring Bugs Bunny.
Fifth (and final) episode of a week-long "Best of Bugs Bunny" celebration to start May 2021.
