- Chloe: You're being hunted by every law enforcement agency in the city. You're not thinking straight.
- Jack Bauer: Right now, I'm the only one who is.
- President Allison Taylor: [Talking privately] it's over... I've decided not to go through with the peace deal
- Charles Logan: Because of Bauer?
- President Allison Taylor: Because of the evidence implicating the Russians, evidence I help cover up is "potentially" too lethal
- Charles Logan: I agree: doesn't sound like much of a choice
- President Allison Taylor: I'm surprised, I expected more of a fight from you
- Charles Logan: I'm nothing if not pragmatic, although I am disappointed
- President Allison Taylor: I'm afraid you'll have to find some other way to "repair" your legacy
- Charles Logan: My own personal disappointment aside, it's a loss for the world
- President Allison Taylor: Yes it is. Ethan's drafting my statement. I need to call Dalia Hassan: hope she'll forgive me for keeping "the truth" from her
- Charles Logan: Before you do, there's one thing you want to consider: a way to preserve the peace deal
- President Allison Taylor: The peace deal is over, you said so yourself
- Charles Logan: I said it was "over" if the evidence comes out. Obviously you can't grant Dana Walsh immunity, the evidence would then become public record. You need to "control" the evidence by keeping Walsh "off the grid"
- President Allison Taylor: [Surprised] "off the grid?"
- Charles Logan: Classify her as an enemy combatant and in incarcerate her in a private facility: there is a private security firm that I can recommend: their "effective and discreet", I have them standing by
- President Allison Taylor: [Sarcastically] sounds like you've been giving this a lot of thought?
- Charles Logan: [Sits down] this evidence is hanging over your head: you need to deal with it
- President Allison Taylor: We can't keep Walsh locked up indefinitely
- Charles Logan: You wouldn't have to. Ms. Walsh may not give up the information "willingly" but she will give it up and once we have it... it won't matter what she "claims"
- President Allison Taylor: [Stands up] you're talking about using physical coercion
- Charles Logan: I know how deeply offends this you: public and private sensibilities. It is... repugnant even immoral but is morality relative considering what's at stake here
- President Allison Taylor: You are still talking about torture
- Charles Logan: I'm talking about the security of this nation and that can only happen if you "acquire" and "control" the evidence. Believe me, I don't make these "suggestions" lightly, I 'appreciate" the "implications." I'm trying to be as open and candid with you as I've been with anyone and the truth is I regret many of my own actions when I was President but I've also had the time to distance to see "past them" to a place of "deep and clear" understanding
- President Allison Taylor: What do you understand?
- Charles Logan: Yielding the kind of power that I once had you have now can change the world but that often requires making impossible choices that challenge our most sacred ideals. If you're not willing to do that, you should take Ethan's advice, and pull out now
- President Allison Taylor: [noticing the expression on his face after he hung up the phone] they still haven't been able to lock Jack down
- Ethan Kanin: They lost him: he landed the chopper and escaped on foot. NYPD is securing a perimeter, CTU is coordinating an interagency search
- President Allison Taylor: If Jack gets this evidence and exposes the Russians, the peace agreement is over
- Ethan Kanin: The peace agreement may not be the only casualty. You covered up the Russian's involvement: that's grounds for impeachment. Possibly... a criminal indictment, you crossed the line but it may not to be too late to step back and limit the damage
- President Allison Taylor: How?
- Ethan Kanin: Expose the Russians: grant Dana Walsh immunity in exchange for evidence, we'll launch an investigation through transparent international channels
- President Allison Taylor: Which would effectively end the peace deal
- Ethan Kanin: But it will save your Administration
- President Allison Taylor: There is still a chance CTU will find Jack
- Ethan Kanin: [shakes his head] even if they do, the evidence is still out there... eventually it will surface
- Ethan Kanin: [sits down next to her] I know better than anyone how much this means to you: how much you sacrificed personally to make it happen
- President Allison Taylor: We are so close
- Ethan Kanin: And we will be again, if not during your Administration, during the next one
- President Allison Taylor: I wish I could believe that
- President Allison Taylor: [after thinking it over] I want you to prepare a statement announcing our withdrawal from this accord: we have a press conference in forty minutes, I'll make the announcement then
- Ethan Kanin: [holds her hands] as hard as this is, you're doing the right thing
- President Allison Taylor: [Over the phone] have you found Jack Bauer?
- Chloe: Not yet, we're still searching
- President Allison Taylor: I think it's safe to assume his on his way to CTU and Dana Walsh is his target: that's why I'm calling. I want Walsh transferred to a safe house off-site
- Chloe: I've doubled the security around Dana Walsh, I'm "confident" this is the safest place for her to be
- President Allison Taylor: Your opinion is not withstanding, I feel more "comfortable" in a place where she can't be tracked: agents from a private security firm are coming there to pick her up
- Chloe: A private security firm?
- President Allison Taylor: You know as well as I do that Jack has contacts throughout the government, some of whom might be "sympathetic" to his situation. I'm not "suggesting your one of those people, I just... want to take every precaution
- Chloe: Yes ma'am
- President Allison Taylor: I'm sending over the transfer order now: the agent in charge of the escort team is Mark Bledsoe, he should be arriving there in a few minutes
- Chloe: Understood
- Chloe: [Over the phone] please come back now: this has got to stop
- Jack Bauer: I need you to get me access to Dana Walsh
- Chloe: The President said she's lying
- Jack Bauer: No, it's the President that's lying: she's covering up the evidence to protect the peace agreement
- Chloe: Even if she is, she must have "good reason." Besides, it's not your call, it's the President's
- Jack Bauer: She's covering up evidence of a terrorist attack against this country, she no longer has "the call". You don't want to go against me on this
- Chloe: [Surprised] are you threatening me?
- Jack Bauer: I'm trying to ask you for help. I need you to put me in a room with Dana Walsh
- Chloe: You're being hunted by every law enforcement agency in the city. You're not thinking straight
- Jack Bauer: Right now, I'm the only one who is
- Chloe: You can't just go against everyone. Please just come in here and we'll figure this out, before you get yourself killed
- Jack Bauer: You know what? Forget it, I'll figure out another way
- Chloe: Jack wait...
- Jack Bauer: [Irritated] what?
- Chloe: If you do get the evidence from Dana, what're you going to do with it?
- Jack Bauer: I just want the people behind this to be held accountable: all I need to do is expose them
- Chloe: [after thinking about it] the President's having her transferred out of CTU
- Jack Bauer: Why?
- Chloe: I'm not sure: she hired a private security firm
- Jack Bauer: Where are they taking her?
- Chloe: I don't know
- Jack Bauer: Find out, I'll call you back
- Chloe: [Before hanging up] ok, I will
- Ethan Kanin: [after entering her office] I have a final draft of your statement, I think it's best for now to cite President Hassan's death as the reason for your withdrawal and after the dust has "settled", we can start prosecuting the Russians through backchannels
- President Allison Taylor: I've chosen not to withdraw from the peace agreement and I'm keeping the press conference as scheduled
- Ethan Kanin: I don't understand
- President Allison Taylor: Dana Walsh is being moved from CTU to a private detention facility: she'll be "off the grid", out of Jack Bauer's reach. I've hired a private interrogation team to "acquire the evidence"
- Ethan Kanin: [Surprised] "acquire the evidence?"
- President Allison Taylor: Once we have it, she'll be "irrelevant"
- Ethan Kanin: Keeping the truth from Jack Bauer is one thing: but authorizing the illegal detention and torture of a prisoner? How far are you willing to go with this lie?
- President Allison Taylor: As far as "necessary" to "preserve" this treaty... it's vital to the security of this nation, what I am doing is for the "greater good"
- Ethan Kanin: [Nods] this was Logan's idea, wasn't it?
- President Allison Taylor: The decision was mine and I stand behind it
- Ethan Kanin: [after sitting down] please listen to what I have to say, I think this is about more than the "greater good", I think your Presidency has cost you your marriage and your children, and you think that this treaty will somehow redeem that loss
- President Allison Taylor: That's enough
- Ethan Kanin: You've made this "personal", and you've lost "your way", I've known you long enough to see that. I implore you... take a step back: look at this "clearly"
- President Allison Taylor: I said that's enough, I've explained my reasons and I appreciate your objections but the debate is over. So let's move on
- Ethan Kanin: Unless you stop what's being done in your name... I can't be a part of this any longer. Don't worry, I'll keep it to myself: cite my health as the reason for my resignation. After all, I'm here against doctor's orders
- President Allison Taylor: [Stands up] please, we are "almost there", you can't just abandon me like this
- Ethan Kanin: I'm not abandoning you, I'm listening to my conscience. Anyway, you've got Charles Logan now... only room for one of us
- Kayla Hassan: [Talking privately] I'm sorry for being so selfish earlier
- Dalia Hassan: You were afraid: you lost your father today and you were afraid of losing me as well
- Kayla Hassan: [Before her mother hugs her] I still am. This peace agreement father died for: how can so many people be so violently against it?
- Dalia Hassan: Some people are so invested in their fear and hatred. Peace is the most threatening thing they can imagine
- Jack Bauer: Take a seat: you know why I'm here, I knew Chloe would send you. You're the only reason why I risked it
- Cole Ortiz: What do you want with me?
- Jack Bauer: I need you to help me gain access to Dana Walsh, I know you well enough that you don't want to be a part of this cover up and right now President Taylor wants the peace agreement to move forward so badly, she's willing to lie about the Russian's involvement in today's terrorist attack. I can't let that happen
- Cole Ortiz: How can you be sure the President's lying?
- Jack Bauer: [Sternly] because she told me to my face: she said the agreement was more important than anything the Russians could've done today... why the hell you think she came down to CTU to talk to me? She didn't want to get the evidence from Dana: she wanted to shut me up and lock me down. Damn it, your hands aren't "clean" in this... you protected Dana Walsh while she was operating for the Russians, you lied for her, which enabled the Russians to provide nuclear materials to Hassan's opposition. They facilitated his assassination and what? You lost more of your men today right? I am giving you an opportunity to make this right, to make the people responsible for everything that happened today accountable: you've got a decision to make
- Cole Ortiz: What if you're wrong?
- Jack Bauer: I'm not, I can't do this on my own
- Jack Bauer: [after taking out a gun and sliding it over to Cole] your call
- Cole Ortiz: [after taking the gun and placing it inside his holster, referring to Dana] Chloe said she's in a safe house a few miles from here
- Jack Bauer: We'll notify CTU about your men within the next two hours: right now it's imperative that they think I took you hostage
- Charles Logan: [Surprised to see him] I heard about your resignation, I'm glad you're putting your health first: we all just want you to get well
- Ethan Kanin: I'm leaving because you... because of what you started here: you've "deliberately "played" this out to maneuver the President into a corner
- Charles Logan: [Shrugs] I brought the Russians back to the table
- Ethan Kanin: But you didn't tell her how you were doing it
- Charles Logan: She didn't ask because she knew what's best for her to preserve her own deniability: the President knows exactly what she's doing, she's smarter than either of us gave her credit for
- Ethan Kanin: I see, so you just provided "counsel?"
- Charles Logan: That's right
- Ethan Kanin: Well... let me "counsel" you: stop this cover up before it's too late. This peace is no good, there's too much blood on this treaty for it to ever hold
- Charles Logan: We've both been in this "game" a long time and we both know damn well that every treaty ever written had blood on it
- Ethan Kanin: Not like this: you've got Alison so far "into the woods", she'll never be able to find herself out. She isn't like you, she's unlike any politician I've ever known
- Charles Logan: That's right... she's finally got some teeth
- Ethan Kanin: You listen to me. If she suffers for this, I will come after you with everything I have
- Charles Logan: You're threatening me
- Ethan Kanin: [Sternly] I'm "warning" you
- Charles Logan: [Ignoring his comments] do you need to sit down?
- Ethan Kanin: I'm fine
- Charles Logan: Well, then, if you don't mind, Alison will be taking the podium any second now... get some rest, you need it
- President Allison Taylor: [giving a press conference] my fellow Americans and friends in foreign lands, I speak to you this morning with a "heavy heart", the brutal and cowardly murder of Omar Hassan was a blow to every civilized person in the world and a stark reminder that the pursuit of peace sometimes comes with a steep price. President Hassan understood that: yet still had the fortitude to pursue a better tomorrow against so many odds. I join with the American people in mourning him and every other innocent life that was lost during this crisis but let it be known here and now, their sacrifice will not have been in vain: peace must and will prevail, no matter the cost, no matter the compromises. We have waited too long and worked too hard to allow this opportunity to pass us by and that is why in Omar Hassan's name, I am choosing to move forward with this historic summit. One made possible by the shared "hope and ideals" of the IRK leadership under its new leader, a woman of unparalleled courage and grace who has been chosen by her people to " carry on the mantle" of her late husband: Dalia Hassan
