The film's climax was shot down the same alleyway in Highland Park, Illinois that was briefly scene in the car chase sequence in Risky Business (1983).
The original shoot for the film's alleyway climax was in August, 2008. One actor pulled a hamstring during this shoot, and wasn't fully healed until wintertime. His re-shoots had to be delayed until March, 2009 when all the snow had melted to better match the location's summertime look.
Special footage was shot for the film's final trailer involving Charlie S. Jensen and Laura Wettingfeld. This scene was originally scripted for the purposes of auditioning actresses for the Jennifer Watson role. Eric Woltman of Voltage Visual Studios was the Director of Photography and Gaffer for this shoot. The full scene will appear alongside other specially shot scenes (both scripted and improvised) in a companion web series debuting on RavensFilm Productions' YouTube Channel, and later, on the film's DVD release. It is the only footage shot in high definition.
Lead actor Stevan Vujic was given the characters of Will Graham from Manhunter (1986), Sonny Crockett from Shadow in the Dark (1986), and Dr. Sam Loomis from Halloween (1978) to study for reference. Actor J. Preston Taub was given Francis Dollarhyde from Manhunter (1986), John Ryder from The Hitcher (1986), Gabriel from The Prophecy (1995), and 'The Shadow' from Shadow in the Dark (1986) for reference with his character. Both actors were given the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) as reference for their fluid body movements.
The film was re-released in May of 2012 as a Special Edition DVD featuring an exclusive new color version alongside the original black & white version. Both versions featured a new, enhanced audio mix. For this re-release, the entire movie, the web series, and trailers had to be re-constructed from scratch exactly as they were after an external hard drive malfunction claimed all the edited content for the movie.
