So I'm older than the average gamer but when the pandemic first hit I did what many of us did during the first lockdowns and.started playing video games again. And boy am I ever glad I played Call Of Duty and not the Last of Us because watching this episode without knowing generally how things would turn out was some of the best TV I've ever watched since Breaking Bad or the early seasons of The Walking Dead.
After the episode finished I was laying on my couch with an elevated heart rate and goose bumps all over and I thought to myself that while gamers from TLOU are very fortunate to have a great adaptation compared to gamers who got sub par adaptations like Doom or Halo, they're also not going to get that same Shock And Awe that someone like myself who has only the most basic knowledge of the story. While I would love to see Doom turned into a TV series (or a halfway decent film franchise) I still think I'd prefer this level of surprise when watching through.
I found that while the episode started off a bit slow, it's completely brought the show back to the top of my list where it was after the first two episodes. I was getting concerned after the 3rd and 4th episode (especially the 3rd) but as long as they can keep this level of quality we definitely have one awesome ride ahead of us.
