Like the rest of season finales in Lost, this was a double episode set to run for 80 minutes, but Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse asked ABC to grant them more time to finish plots properly.
During the shoot, Matthew Fox and John Terry were the only actors who knew the proper finale. The rest of the cast in the church had no idea about the real sense of the scene.
According to Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, he was offered the chance to make a cameo appearance as Mr. Eko but was unable to come to an agreement regarding his salary.
The church featured in the last sequence is the same as the church at the Lamp Post Dharma station in LA, where Jack, Sun, Ben, and Desmond meet Eloise.
The episode won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Single Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series.
