Although it had potential to be great, "For The Future" is a disappointing penultimate episode that's clunky, poorly paced, and attempts to bite off more than it can chew.
This episode is a massive step down from "Thanks To Them." It throws too much at the viewer, leaving us confused halfway through as we struggle to process the emotions and ideas shoved in our faces. In addition, the episode doesn't have a distinct, gratifying flow, leaving its ending unsatisfying compared to other episodes.
If The Owl House had been given more time to flesh out the last of its plot and characters, season 3 would've been an incredible ride. Unfortunately, its cancelation left the creators no choice but to stuff as much as they could into these last episodes, which has yet to lead to great results. I'm hoping the show's finale, "Watching and Dreaming," can give this show the closure it deserves.
