- [Abby's mother has been rescued by the police. Abby still has the stamps. She goes to visit her mother in a nursing home. Her mother is filling in a competition coupon in a magazine]
- Abby Morton: What are you trying to win?
- Paula Morton: [reading from the magazine] "A fortnight for two at a luxury hotel in Mauritius."
- Abby Morton: Mum, you don't even have a passport.
- Paula Morton: I know, love, but you could easily get me one if I needed it, couldn't you?
- [Abby looks gobsmacked that her mother knows about her secret life]
- Paula Morton: I might be losing my marbles, but I'm not as daft as I look.
- Abby Morton: I'd love you to get a passport. I'd love you to join me.
- Paula Morton: Where?
- Abby Morton: When I get settled somewhere.
- Paula Morton: We won't see each other again. But it's all right. I'd sooner you remembered me as I was. If you ever decide to have children, just remember. First you give 'em roots. Then you give 'em wings.
- [Abby hugs her mother]
- Abby Morton: I love you.
- Paula Morton: I know. Go on. Go quickly. Don't look back.
- [when Grace and Branson had rescued Abby's mother and arrested Ricky Skeggs, Grace had dragged Pewe from the caravan just before it fell over the cliff edge]
- DS Glenn Branson: I did hear a rumour from Ground Control. "Pepe le Pew" had applied for a transfer.
- DSI Roy Grace: That's right. Back to the Met.
- DS Glenn Branson: What brought that on?
- DSI Roy Grace: I think being here was pushing him over the edge.
- [they laugh]
- DS Norman Potting: [to DSI Grace] You know what Hughie Green would have said? "If you can't spell Cassian Pewe, just write down 'pompous shitehawk' and we'll know who you mean."
