Possibly one of the most unlikely career switches. Professional footballer to social worker, certainly by today's financial picture. However what a thoroughly decent man and family. It's so beautiful to see how the efforts and sacrifice of a small group of people could help shift the future for so many children. The villages where they took in 100s of disabled children were incredible. "Who wants a mama?"

Would highly recommend this to anyone! Such a moving documentary with an inspiring story. It just shows the impact a person's decisions can make when it isn't about them. So nice to watch something uplifting for a change.
Powerful

A powerful story of possibility. When I was living and working in Shanghai in 2013, a colleague once erroneously told me "no one can influence the Chinese Government". This film is a testament to the fact that integrity, vision, and genuine care are felt across cultural divides and societal hierarchies. At times it is astonishing how the ideas of a westerner were believed, yet it is entirely believable, because why would it not make sense that children need love? It is also a story of how we can listen to our hearts, and be led us to be in the places at the times when we can be of most help. Powerful lessons in life and loving kindness.
A great documentary and an encouraging message

Children of Shanghai is an absolutely incredible film that beautifully told the story of some inspiring people in China. It's amazing to hear the impact and ripple effect of events that took place over twenty years ago.
