So I walk up on high and I step to the edge

Buckle in, something is coming. It gets a bit trippy in the woods and the girls go stag hunting. RUN!

Woooo boy, best episode yet. The girls start to turn on one of their own and we finally get some concrete answers from both timelines. The Antler Queen?

[6.8] The odds from - to + ...
cjonesas21 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 9: Well-acted with lots of felt emotions (the only good thing since episode 1), empty crazy bad storyline plots, dismal in both past and present, poor shoving-down-the-throat agendas.

That's not admiringly good mystical, that's erratic and hollow mystical (a mess from writers' side since episode 1. You wanna know good quality mystical storylines, watch True Blood).

Put logic aside, suspend your disbelief and you'll be just fine. One episode left and the odds from - to + are near nil.

What was this episode?!

Warning: Spoilers
Okay so it turns out my theory was wrong; Adam isn't Travis' younger brother... Adam's dead. It all just kind of happened and then we get the reveal that it was actually Jeff doing the blackmailing. Whilst it wasn't what I was expecting, it didn't surprise me. This was because the way it was done wasn't of one to be a big reveal, he admitted it and she said some stuff then said she outright murdered someone. Big situations, anticlimactic reactions. The whole season there was a narrative of blackmail, so I wanted more when we found out who was doing it alongside the narrative of the affair. When Jeff finds out, he just kind of gets over it. Very underwhelming.

The other narrative of this episode follows the wilderness where everyone is accidentally drugged. This is where the episode goes a bit nuts. This whole time I've been waiting for hints into their descent into madness and you're telling me they all went on a drug trip which showed their true nature, I guess? It continues to show unnecessary sexual themes in this show via this episode and there are no stakes on chasing around Travis as we know he survives but this was a weird drug trip, chasing him around to eat him up with Lottie at the helm of it with her confusing supernatural abilities.

It felt a bit rushed and after the drugs wear off do they go back to being themselves. This show doesn't seem to want to progress its narrative. Just put situations there to go through and end up at square one.

However, it increased the pace of the show significantly which I've been waiting for so I appreciate that a lot. It felt nice seeing our characters smiling and laughing before the inevitable craziness happens.

Overall, this episode made me cringe more than get shocked by anything but it increased the pace, which the show needed, and had feel good moments at the beginning.

P. S. Jackie still being crazy petty amongst the events of this episode. If I recall, the season opener had the girl (presumably Jackie) die with snow surrounding them. They have one episode left in the season. It better snow.

Welcome to the CW

Warning: Spoilers
At times, this show plays more like a teen soap opera that would do well on the CW than an edgy show for cable. It lacks a cohesive style in many ways. I don't think it's completely unrealistic that on the brink of death, the girls might throw a party (who knows? I've never been in their shoes).. but it did a bit a false and also boring.

Episode 9

Warning: Spoilers
There is nothing more annoying than episodes or movie scenes with characters getting high. It is never funny.

Add in that things got really weird at the end and it has the makings of a poor penultimate episode.

Another Example of Show trying to hard

Warning: Spoilers
Ok, Well anyone that has seen the movie "Alive" knew the cannibalism scene was coming. LOL- however in Alive they were freezing because they weren't covered in head to toe from all the Animals that have been killed so one can assume they are doing this for what ..... as prayer seance type deal? Also the headdresses and other gear are cute and what not but after spending 19 months closely with a small group of people everyone knows who everyone is if there eyes were shut anyway. But whatever. This show doesn't need to be so complicated (it's actually very simple ) the directing and producing make it hard to follow because in the first 3 episodes they are doing flashbacks about people we don't even care for or know yet. I believe this show would of been so much better if they just K. I. S. S. (keep it simple stupid) instead trying to go full "Memento" on us when it's not even necessary, but it is annoying.

Sooooooo bad.

Warning: Spoilers
Acting? Bad. Plot line? Bad. Writing? Bad. Even the music is bad. This show was sold as a horror/mystery but it's a "Chick Flick" that's basically a soap opera in the woods (half of the time). Thank God there's only one dreaded episode left.
