Hero They Wished You Forgot
magadalwarmayur22 March 2024
"Swatantrya Veer Savarkar" completely floored me. It's a powerful cinematic journey that doesn't shy away from the complexities of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, a controversial yet undeniable force in India's fight for independence. Randeep Hooda's performance is nothing short of a revelation. He inhabits Savarkar's skin - the steely resolve in his eyes, the unwavering defiance in his voice - making you feel the weight of his struggles and convictions.

As a history buff, I was particularly impressed by how the film weaves a rich tapestry. It seamlessly blends the grand narrative of India's independence movement with the intimate details of Savarkar's personal odyssey. The screenplay is robust and meticulously crafted, offering depth without sacrificing clarity. The dialogues are equally impactful, leaving a lasting impression and often igniting spontaneous applause in the theater.

But what truly elevates "Swatantrya Veer Savarkar" is its technical mastery. The cinematography is breathtaking, creating a visually immersive experience that transports you right into the heart of the freedom struggle. You feel the suffocating dampness of Savarkar's cell in Kaala Paani, the electrifying energy of revolutionaries plotting their next move, and the simmering tension of confrontations with the iron fist of the British Raj.

One of the most thought-provoking aspects of the film is the dynamic between Savarkar and Gandhi. Their contrasting ideologies are brought to life through a series of powerful, nuanced exchanges. These conversations highlight the fascinating complexities of India's fight for independence, where different leaders advocated for different paths to freedom. The film doesn't shy away from portraying the friction between their approaches, sparking contemplation about the multifaceted nature of a nation's struggle for self-rule.

It's worth noting that the film isn't without its flaws. The pacing could be tightened in certain stretches, particularly during the first part of the second half where Savarkar is incarcerated. A minor edit of 15-20 minutes could enhance the overall flow without compromising the depth of the story.

Despite this minor drawback, "Swatantrya Veer Savarkar" stands out as a remarkable achievement in historical cinema. It's a testament to the passion and commitment of the filmmakers. The film offers a profound and engaging experience that is both educational and entertaining. It left me contemplating the complexities of India's freedom struggle, the legacy of its key figures, and the enduring significance of their fight for self-determination.

Everyone should watch this movie. Excellent performance by randeep sir. What a incredible transformation. And just avoid the people who spread the hate about this movie. Go and watch it.

Many people you will find spreading negativity about the shri veer savarkar ,who devoted his whole life for the independence of this country,so its a request to all avoid them and go and watch with family. Especially the second half...oh god..what it was..it was just mind blowing...... visuals and story telling are up to the mark.

You will surely love it...in negative in the first half may be seems quite slow, but it is worth it.

9/10 stars.

Must Watch Story Based On Veer Savarkar
webbizindia10 March 2024
Swatantra Veer Savarkar is a new movie coming out. It's about a famous person from India's past. Randeep Hooda is the main actor, and he plays Savarkar. The movie shows his life story, from when he was young to when he fought for India's freedom. It talks about his ideas and struggles. The movie looks very real and makes you feel like you're in the past. Randeep Hooda acts very well, and he makes Savarkar's character come alive. The other actors in the movie also do a good job. The movie makes you think about important things like freedom and history. It's not just a story; it's something to learn from. If you like history and good acting, you might enjoy Swatantra Veer Savarkar.

Veer Savarkar - A Moving Tribute to India's Forgotten Heroes
popcorntrip22 March 2024
"Swatantrya Veer Savarkar" isn't just another historical film; it's a heartfelt journey into the lives of those who fought fiercely for India's independence. Picture this: a gripping storyline, real-life struggles, and heroes whose stories were lost in time. The movie doesn't shy away from showing the gritty truth-our freedom fighters faced not only the might of the British but also betrayal from within.

But here's the twist: the movie isn't just about the past; it's about uncovering truths hidden in the shadows. It challenges the tales spun by politicians and others who sought to rewrite history. By staying true to the facts, this film invites you to explore the real heroes behind India's freedom struggle.

Kudos to Randeep Hooda and the team of "Swatantrya Veer Savarkar" for their outstanding dedication, bringing this powerful tribute to life. Hooda's portrayal of Veer Savarkar is remarkable, capturing the essence of the character. The film is a moving homage to unsung heroes and a poignant reminder of their sacrifices for our freedom.

Zee Studios the real chad 🗿
AbhaasAjmani8 March 2024
I love the way they made this movie and they spreading awareness about the un-told reality. Zee Studios dared to make this movie and I bet this will be a blockbuster movie all over the world. I saw the trailer of the movie and it was like next level. Even after 77 years of independence, we finally see the other side (true) of history. In the trailer, acting has done incredibly, no joke but you will actually get goosebumps after watching the trailer. We need more movies like this instead of movies like "Animal". The last line in the trailer "Congress ke kisi member ko kala paani ki saza kyu nhi hoyi?" was next level. Can't wait for the movie to release. Once again Zee Studios and Randeep Hooda is the real chad to make such a movie Hats off!! 🗿🗿

Veer Savarkar - a lion that roared
rahulvaidya05523 March 2024
1857 revolution. One book. One man's belief and determination to bring that revolution in the hearts and minds of every Indian of his time. This is the best biopic that has come out of the Indian film industry. It's accuracy, facts and story telling will keep you hooked for the entire duration of the movie.

Randeep hooda has given the best performance of his career till now and has fully immersed himself into the life of Veer Savarkar. As the movie progresses, you will see the successes and the pitfalls of Veer Savarkar's life and how he was deeply connected to various important figures fighting for independence of India. This movie also unmasks some historical facts that people have been forced to believe for a long time. Watch this movie to learn what you have to unlearn about the fight for India's Independence and why it has been always labelled as a struggle.

A masterpiece. Just saw...Oscar...

The film's narrative is both inspiring and thought-provoking, delving into the complex ideologies that shaped Savarkar's vision for India's future. It explores themes of nationalism, identity, and sacrifice, inviting viewers to ponder the enduring relevance of Savarkar's ideas in contemporary times.

Visually stunning and emotionally resonant, "Veer Savarkar: The Unyielding Flame" is a cinematic triumph that pays homage to a towering figure in Indian history. With its powerful storytelling, stellar performances, and evocative soundtrack, the film leaves a lasting impression, reminding us of the extraordinary courage and resilience that defined India's struggle for independence.

A Masterpiece!!!
sam-9523822 March 2024
An amazing journey of storytelling and true dedication of bringing the facts to the Cinema! The Man of the hour is no less than the one and only 'Randeep Hooda'.

Finally we can say that Indian Cinema has propelled to higher levels beyond the stereotyped name-tag of "Bollywood". Through this movie, it gives a great impression how the Indian movie making has evolved to the next level beyond the candy La La land with little logic or sense.. Movies like Savarkar have created content of such nature that it compels the audience to dive deep and understand the gravity of the characters and the actual story that it brings to light.

I Bow down to the great legendary Director, Actor and Storyteller 'Randeep Hooda' for this..

Unapologetically Dedicated Portrayal of one of the greatest Bravehearts of Bharat
devashreesane22 March 2024
First of all I want to applaud Randeep Ji's utter conviction at delivering such a sincere and fearless attempt on a highly controversial topic like this. It takes serious guts to make a film on a historical figure like Veer Savarkar and I only know one movie that was made about him by Sudhir Ji Phadke and that had come out in 2001! The kind exuberance that Randeep Ji has towards his craft has no bounds. Seriously the man has left no stone unturned in delivering what I can call a staunchly made passion project and a long overdue tribute to a great historical figure like Veer Savarkar.

It's evident how extensive of a research Randeep Hooda has done to make this movie as historically accurate as possible but I pertain to the category of people that is saying that this should have been a two part movie because of the vastness of the life of Savarkar that just cannot be contained in a 3 hour runtime. But that aside I still want to admire the conviction that has been packed in each and every second of this film from all aspects.

Be it the cinematography that has extraordinarily depicted the pre independence era, the world building of a time where the British imperialism had atrociously enslaved and impoverished Bharatiyas and Savarkar witnessing all this wanting to start an armed revolution against the English government. The unimaginable sacrifices he and his family had to make, the unthinkable pain, the blood-curdling torture he and Babarao endured at Kaala Pani. One could literally see his descent to madness during the scenes depicting his solitary confinements. The music and BG score that has been paired with it and some great shots of brilliant visual storytelling that elevate the movie. But above all, the movie shines in the way it has connected with the audiences on an emotional level. On that note, it's not just Randeep's acting but the entire cast that has the capability of captivating you in certain moments. And hopefully this movie will help people realise the real intention of the clemency petitions that some pseudo intellectuals use against him to woefully malign his name and delegitimize his contribution towards the freedom struggle. It's absolutely deplorable how these arrogant and vile people mock him and keep perpetuating the discriminatory legacy of the British and the Congress of disparaging him.

However, I do have some gripes about this directorial debut by Randeep about some technical aspects of the film like its inconsistent pacing. The overuse of slow motion to the point the first half starts to feel more like a montage; but thankfully it gains momentum in the second half. Another thing that I'd like to critique about is how film is lit. Lighting could be better. While I understand the dimly lit scenes are done keeping the realistic situation of that time in mind but for scenes depicting some light heartedness some creative liberty can be taken by lighting up the scene even if it's slightly unrealistic. That's the great thing about film making. You can control the lighting to evoke certain emotions.

But apart from this I have nothing but praise for the film.

Another thing that is noteworthy is how they have explored their theme of "The battle of ideologies". Especially when it comes to the opposing views of Savarkarji and Gandhiji. The portrayal in those sequences is unapologetic, firm, articulate and never antagonizes the other person in any way. Which is the result of being loyal to the objective reality and taking a straightforward approach. This will not sit right with many people and that is okay. It's my opinion.

That being said. Its already been quite a long read. I'll take your leave now.

Ambitious subject, Hooda shines in dual role..falls short in nuance
samabc-3195227 March 2024
Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was a controversial and an influential figure in Indian history and politics. His ideas and writings have had a profound impact on contemporary Indian politics, particularly on Hindu nationalism. His 1923 pamphlet Essentials of Hindutva is considered a formative work in Hindu nationalism. His ideology was polarized and focused on Hindu unity and having a Hindu homeland at any cost. He was a supporter of the Two-nation ideology!

This is a biographical film directed by Randeep Hooda, his directorial debut. He also stars as the titular character. However, it falls short in the storytelling mostly for its historical inaccuracies and the creative liberties it takes to portray Savarkar as a hero and Gandhi as a villain which rhymes with a current prevailing trend of scapegoating Gandhi, with memes and posts blaming him for everything from political polarization to the price of tea in India!!!!!

Hooda's performance is powerful and the highlight of the movie. The makeup artist has done a fantastic job. The cinematography is remarkable. However, the supporting characters are somewhat underdeveloped and monodimensional. Movie also seems hasty esp in the second half as it fails to show Savarkar's transformation from a freedom fighter who strongly supported Akhand Bharat to a Hindu nationalist and supporter of a Two-nation ideology!

Despite its propagandistic nature and underdeveloped aspects of Savarkar's legacy, the film remains engaging due to Hooda's compelling performance and directorial prowess!

Randeep = Desi Christian Bale
iamshoppingtoday23 March 2024
The movie was exceptional. When considering the aspects I appreciated most:

1) The performance of the lead actor, Randeep, was profoundly memorable. His dedication to portraying the character rivaled the commitment of Christian Bale. Such was the impact of his acting and dedication that I would unequivocally award this movie a 100% rating.

2) The technical and visual aspects of the movie were impeccably executed.

3) The film showcased a seldom-depicted perspective opposing that of Gandhi. It underscored the notion that non-violence alone was not always effective. These unsung heroes deserve recognition, and it is commendable that someone has depicted their story in a movie.

Revolution Rekindled: 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar' Ignites the Forgotten Flames of Freedom
umyal22 March 2024
Swatantrya Veer Savarkar" isn't just a movie; it's a riveting experience that takes you on a profound journey through a significant chapter of India's history. At its heart is the story of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, whose role in the independence movement is both complex and fascinating. Through the lens of this film, we dive deep into the life of Savarkar, portrayed with unmatched intensity and depth by Randeep Hooda. Hooda doesn't just act; he becomes Savarkar, embodying his spirit, his unwavering resolve, and the fire of rebellion that burned within him. This isn't just a portrayal; it's a transformation, making the audience feel the very soul of Savarkar, his struggles, and his indomitable courage.

What struck me most was the film's ability to blend the grandeur of India's collective fight for freedom with the personal, intimate saga of Savarkar. It's a balancing act that the screenplay accomplishes with finesse, providing a rich, detailed narrative without overwhelming the viewer. The dialogues, crafted with care, resonate long after you leave the theater, echoing the passion and the pain of those tumultuous times. There's a sense of immediacy and involvement, often leading to spontaneous applause, as the audience is moved by the words spoken on screen.

"Swatantrya Veer Savarkar" distinguishes itself with its technical excellence. The cinematography is nothing short of spectacular, creating a visual feast that immerses you in the era of the freedom struggle. Every frame is a painting, every shot designed to evoke emotions, from the oppressive gloom of Savarkar's cell in Kaala Paani to the vibrant energy of revolutionaries plotting liberation. The film excels in making history come alive visually, allowing you to almost feel the damp walls of the prison, hear the whispers of conspiracy, and sense the tension of an impending confrontation.

The ideological clash between Savarkar and Gandhi forms a pivotal part of the narrative, showcasing their differing visions for India's future. These interactions are among the film's highlights, offering a nuanced exploration of their philosophies. It's a testament to the film's depth that it portrays these debates without bias, inviting the audience to reflect on the diverse perspectives that fueled the freedom movement. This portrayal enriches the film, providing a broader understanding of the historical context and the complexities involved in a nation's struggle for independence.

However, no film is without its flaws. "Swatantrya Veer Savarkar" could benefit from a tighter pace in parts, especially during the sequences depicting Savarkar's imprisonment. Trimming these sections could improve the film's rhythm without detracting from its narrative depth.

Despite this minor critique, the film stands as a monumental achievement in historical cinema. It's a passionate, committed effort by the filmmakers, delivering a story that is both informative and deeply moving. It prompts a deeper contemplation of India's past, the sacrifices made by its leaders, and the enduring importance of their quest for freedom. The boldness of Zee Studios in producing such a film deserves commendation. The trailer alone promises a cinematic tour de force, challenging prevailing narratives and presenting a side of history that demands recognition.

In essence, "Veer Savarkar" is more than just a movie; it's a vital piece of cinematic art that brings to light the untold stories of courage and resilience. It confronts the brutal realities faced by India's freedom fighters, not shying away from showing the dark, often violent, struggles they endured. The film serves as a crucial reminder of the sacrifices made by countless individuals, many of whom remain unsung heroes in our history books. It challenges the distortions of history by certain ideologies and reaffirms the significance of truth and authenticity in our understanding of the past.

By committing to historical accuracy and authenticity, "Veer Savarkar" does a remarkable service to the audience and the legacy of India's freedom fighters. It encourages viewers to engage with their history, to seek out facts and to understand the real stories behind the struggle for independence.

To conclude, "Veer Savarkar" is an essential watch for anyone interested in the true essence of India's journey to freedom. It's a powerful tribute to the brave souls who fought for our nation's independence, making it possible for future generations to live in freedom. The film's compelling narrative, exceptional performances, and visual storytelling leave an indelible mark, urging us to remember and honor the legacy of these remarkable individuals. In doing so, "Veer Savarkar" not only educates but also inspires, making it a standout piece in the realm of historical cinema. This should be India's entry for the Oscars this year. I hope all states in India make this tax free in theatres to watch.

Hard hitting , eye opening
bhawnasandeep-9760122 March 2024
Wow! Never knew the details about the great Savarkar's life! How true History had been kept hidden from us, so glad that it's coming out now. Our independence came up with huge costs and so many people have sacrificed their lives for that. In awe of the immense bravery, courage and conviction of Savarkar ji! We owe a lot to him.

There were many moments which were emotional, and Randeep enacted so well. The direction was perfect. All the cast and crew did a great job and what a transformation by Randeep.

Truly a fan of Randeep Huda, what a hard hitting performance! Kudos to the team for creating such a masterpiece.

manjushathaware24 March 2024
Kudos to the makers of the film! Salute to his courage to go against the system!! Bravo !!!

A non Marathi person has shown his passion and dedication towards the content and story line! He has put in a lot of efforts to create the best and true side of the character!

Swatantryaveer Savarkar, not unsung hero but for sure, most criticised freedom fighter of our country! It's really unfortunate!

Not only veer savarkar but his whole family was devoted to the freedom movement which very few of us know! And the makers have shown the real story of his life! Hudda has put in lot of efforts in putting his life in the movie span !

But at least, the generations will be well aware with our folded freedom stories, for sure !!!

Thanks !!!

Eyewatering truth about the Indian History
mayankkhandiwal22 March 2024
After watching this movie, my eyes were opened. Until now, we believed that "Charkha chalane se azaadi aayi thi," but this movie revealed the sacrifices of several freedom fighters who were killed fighting for their own land.

This movie should reach every Indian so that they can learn about the unsung heroes of the freedom struggle apart from Nehrus and Gandhis mentioned in textbooks, such as Savarkar and Patel.

All in all, the movie provided a more detailed and nuanced view of the freedom struggle, and it helped me appreciate the efforts of the countless brave souls who fought for our nation's independence.

Worst film of all time
shahrukhshamad23 March 2024
"Swatantra Veer Savarkar" fails to capture the complexity of Savarkar's life and ideology, offering a shallow portrayal that lacks depth and nuance. Randeep Hooda's performance feels forced and fails to convey the charisma and conviction associated with Savarkar. His portrayal lacks authenticity, with a portrayal that feels more like caricature than a genuine depiction of the historical figure. Hooda struggles to imbue the character with the necessary gravitas, resulting in a performance that ultimately falls flat and fails to do justice to the subject matter. Overall, the film disappoints, offering little insight into Savarkar's legacy.

Veer Savarkar The Forgotten Hero
sahooamit-4624822 March 2024
1: Savarkar's Life and Ideology The first part of the movie explores Savarkar's life, his revolutionary activities, and his ideology. Savarkar's writings inspired other freedom fighters, including Bhagat Singh. His book on the 1857 Indian War of Independence had a significant impact on the freedom struggle. Despite his imprisonment in the Andaman Cellular Jail and the harsh conditions he faced, Savarkar continued to advocate for Hindutva and social reforms. He established the Patit Pavan Temple in Ratnagiri and held liberal views on untouchability.

2: Historical Perspectives on Key Indian Figures** The second part of the movie critically examines the roles and memories of key figures in India's history, including Gandhi, Bose, Savarkar, and Jinnah. It highlights the complexities and lesser-known facts about their contributions and the struggles they faced. The video questions Gandhi's legacy, contrasts it with the views of Ambedkar and Bose, and discusses the formation of the Indian National Army (INA) by Bose due to Gandhi's failing approach. It also addresses misconceptions about Savarkar and Jinnah's roles and highlights the overlooked contributions of Savarkar's brother, Ganesh. The movie further discusses the misrepresentations in history, such as Savarkar's early actions against a mosque at age 12 and the context of Hindu-Muslim rights violations. It ends with untold stories of the Savarkar family, including the lynching of Vinayak Savarkar's brother and the firing of Lata Mangeshkar's brother for playing Savarkar's poem.

In conclusion, the movie provides a comprehensive overview of Savarkar's life, his contributions to India's freedom struggle, and his controversial legacy. It also offers a critical examination of the roles of key figures in India's history and the complexities of their contributions.

not everything is propaganda
cineyapper18 April 2024
You guys throw the word propaganda around way too much it's irritating. Shut up PLEASE.

We've always read one perspective of gandhi and the freedom movement in our textbooks; the positive one. The one that praises the hell out of gandhi and nehru. BUT the actual situations back then and the many people who all took part in freeing the motherland are topics that are undoubtedly more nuanced than the digestible small paragraphs we grew up memorizing. This movie showcases a man whose name hasn't been popularised in history even though he contributed to our freedom. That is NOT propaganda.

I don't understand people saying savarkar as a man and his complexity weren't captured when the entire film revolves around him honestly talking about his unshakeable belief in violence and training the youth to achieve an armed revolution. It even showed the people that followed his society and killed many of the british officers were very young men whose lives were cut short and his statements that all citizens of hind are hindus even if they're of different religions which is a very problematic statement. He was a troubled man with many problems who, throughout his life, struggled for freedom and the movie portrayed him exactly as such 🤷‍♀️. In my belief, the movie was very honest about the kind of thinking savarkar had and didn't sugarcoat it at all.

The cinematography and camerawork were very interesting. Some scenes did feel out of place but overall it was good. Nothing insanely amazing though.

Randeep hooda's acting was noteworthy. His direction could be improved, but for a debut film, it IS good.

Valid criticisms of this movie (in my opinion) is that it's flow wasn't as cohesive as it should've been and it was a little too long to keep the audience hooked in fully. It captured savarkar's ideologies and passion and did have beautiful dialogues meant to evoke feelings of patriotism in the audience, but this was not consistent. The movie would've been better if the writing didn't seem all over the place.

Other than these things. It is a well made movie.

Really a Letdown
susreeganguly23 March 2024
The main issue with this movie is hiding of the actual facts about Savarkar. Movie wise is OK and Ramdeep Hooda has given a good effort but for me it's a major letdown that anyone who knows the history of modern India can never agree with what has been shown in the movie. There is nothing about numerous Merci Petitions, there is nothing about pensions which he received from the colonisers. The movie tries to portray Savarkar as a hero, which he was not. The issue is that when someone makes a movie on real life characters, please make them original. What is the need to even rewrite history? Finally, I would like to say that I didn't like this movie and it is my personal choice.

"I dont hate Gandhi but I hate Non Violence"
shivennayyar24 March 2024
"Swatantrya Veer Savarkar" is its technical mastery.

The Dark Knight
vinayakaggrawal22 March 2024
I found the portrayal of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar in the film to be incredibly moving and insightful. It felt like a revelation, casting a new light on the history of India's struggle for independence. After reading Vikram Sampath's book, I was already inclined to view Savarkar as a significant, albeit underappreciated, figure. The film, spearheaded by Randeep Hooda, further solidified my respect for Savarkar, portraying him as a true dark knight who fought valiantly for India's freedom, unlike some of the Congress leaders who are often celebrated in mainstream narratives.

I was particularly impressed by how the film and the book challenge the conventional perceptions of Indian history, urging audiences to recognize the contributions of forgotten heroes like Savarkar. The criticism of those who dismiss Savarkar's sacrifices, especially his harrowing time in the Andaman Cellular Jail, struck a chord with me. It's easy for detractors, including prominent figures like Rahul Gandhi (referred to as "Pappu" in political discourse), to undermine Savarkar's legacy. However, I doubt many could endure even a fraction of the hardships he faced in Kalapani.

"Swatantra Veer Savarkar" is a captivating movie about a brave freedom fighter. Director Randeep Hooda tells the story of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar in a powerful and engaging way. The movie shows both the big events of history and the personal struggles of Savarkar, making you feel like you're right there with him.

The best part of the movie is its story. You can tell that a lot of research went into showing Savarkar's life accurately. From his early days to his time in jail, everything feels real and emotional without being overly dramatic.

Randeep Hooda does an amazing job playing Savarkar. He shows Savarkar's determination, intelligence, and emotions perfectly. The other actors, like Amit Sial and Ankita Lokhande, also give great performances.

The only downside is that the movie is quite long, almost three hours. But if you're interested in Indian history and enjoy great acting, it's worth the time. "Swatantra Veer Savarkar" makes you think about parts of India's past that are sometimes forgotten.

If you love history or just appreciate a good story, you should definitely watch this movie.
