The Jersey motel
jotix10028 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Jonathan goes to a Jersey diner to meet Mr. Eaton, a husband that hasn't had much sex with his wife lately. Eaton committed an error when he decided to engage in sex with a woman who turned out to be a blackmailer. She wants money that he doesn't have. What's more, he realizes he is much more in love with his wife than ever; he doesn't want to lose, or hurt her. Jonathan promises to help. Ray drove him to the diner.

When Jonathan gets back to Manhattan, he goes to the magazine's office to see George, who is opening his correspondence. Jonathan has come to get a Paul Auster book that he is going to review. George complains about having to go to a party where Gay Talese will be given an award. George is reluctant to go to another of these functions so he asks Jonathan to come along for moral support. Jonathan confesses he has a second job as a P.I. and as a matter of fact, he is going to meet the blackmailing woman that night.

George, who is curious about what Jonathan is doing that night, asks if he can come. Ray is going to drive them. Before they go to the tryst at the motel, the trio stops at a spy shop in the Village. They get an array of spying devices to bring to Jersey. Jonathan leaves Ray and George in the car. They are supposed to be on the lookout for any eventuality. Ray decides to smoke pot as he waits. George wants to smoke as well, and both end up getting high.

The woman blackmailer has a surprise for Jonathan. She has discovered his identity and wants to blackmail him as well. She demands the same amount, something Jonathan laughs at her proposal. They are interrupted in their discussion by a man that turns out to be the woman's brother, who barges in with a stun gun and inflicts pain on the amateur detective. What's more, the couple force Jonathan to go to an ATM and get money for them before they let him go. After he is released, he comes to the car and finds both friends stoned. Jonathan and his friends tail the fleeing criminals to a house in a residential area. Jonathan confronts the woman, only to be surprised by the brother. This other man, escapes and again, the trio give chase, but they crash the car to the back of a parked police vehicle!

Another great episode of this funny series. Directed by Adam Bernstein, and written by Jonathan Ames and Martin Gero. The three regulars get a chance to be seen most of the time, something rare in the programs we have seen so far, because there are always other characters playing as well, but Jonathan, Ray and George never are seen together. Jason Schartzmann, Zach Galifianakis, and the marvelous Ted Danson make great 'music' together.
