Sir Harold Boulton wrote "The Skye Boat" in the 1870s, about the flight of Prince Charles Edward Stuart (a.k.a. Bonnie Prince Charlie) by boat to the Isle of Skye. The start of this episode shows the events that inspired the original song.
David Berry was almost not in the episode. Because of Covid-19 restrictions in his native Australia, he was apprehensive about leaving his family and having to quarantine after filming.
The tune at the end is Colonel Bogey's March, composed in 1914 by Lieutenant F. J. Ricketts (using the pen name Kenneth J. Alford), a British Army bandmaster. It became famous after appearing in The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957).
The opening credits are sung in Gaelic.
Flora says that she was born a MacDonald and married a MacDonald. Her husband is quick to add that they were different branches. In real life, Flora MacDonald and her husband were 2nd cousins once removed. Shauna Macdonald is also a MacDonald.
