Production on MaXXXine, the sequel to director Ti West‘s films Pearl (watch it Here) and X (watch that one at This Link), wrapped way back in May of 2023, and just last month we heard that it has earned an R rating for strong violence, gore, sexual content, graphic nudity, language and drug use as it heads toward its July 5th theatrical release date. With that date just two months away, USA Today has unveiled a new image from the film that drops Mia Goth into an ’80s party scene, and you can check that out at the bottom of this article.
MaXXXine is written and directed by West. Mia Goth reprises the role of X survivor Maxine Minx, a burlesque performer and adult film actress with the goal of being a star. The film has the following synopsis: In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break.

X-Men ‘97 continues its narrative momentum from the emotional sixth episode into its seventh episode. Following the demise of Gambit, the episode primarily focuses on Rogue’s quest to seek justice for her former teammate and love interest’s demise. In the process, viewers get to witness some exciting cameos from fan-favorite MCU characters.
A still from X-Men ‘97
While the cameos do not significantly affect the overall plot of the episode they still serve as a nice nod to the larger universe the X-Men inhibit. Such cameos were also a trademark of the original 90s animated series and the earlier entries in Kevin Feige’s MCU, which later expanded into a grand shared universe. Here is what you need to know about X-Men ‘97 episode 7’s cameos and how they use a trick from Feige’s early MCU playbook.

Prime Video’s Global Top has recently lacked some good old horror shows, with the prominent domination of the sci-fi saga Fallout and the superhero hit Invincible. However, their supremacy can be shattered by the upcoming platform’s horror show, which appears to be the continuation of the 2021 gripping anthology series.

Netflix added nearly 30 million global paid subscribers in 2023, though it might have watered down its hit pool in the process.
According to a new study by British streaming-data company Digital i, Netflix had fewer than half the global hits in 2023 (10) than it had in 2022 (22). Digital i defines a “hit” as an original movie or a series that was watched by at least 30 percent of Netflix’s subscriber base in North America, EU, and Latam.
The long list of 2022 Netflix hits goes like this: “Wednesday” (61.8%), “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” (53.3%), “Stranger Things 4” (48.0%), “The Adam Project” (47.9%), “Knives Out 2” (45.9%), “The Gray Man” (42.4%), “The Watcher” (41.9%), “The Tinder Swindler” (38.0%), “Inventing Anna” (37.5%), “The Sandman” (35.7%), “Senior Year” (35.6%), “1899” (34.7%), “Bridgerton” Season 2 (34.5%), “Troll” (34.0%), “Enola Holmes 2” (33.7%), “Luckiest Girl Alive” (33.4%), “Harry & Meghan” (32.7%), “Hustle” (32.6%), “The Man from Toronto” (31.5%), “Purple Hearts” (31.3%), “Me Time” (31.1%), “Day Shift” (31.0%), and “Falling for Christmas” (30.8%).

Paging Don Johson! Report to the set of Ryan Murphy’s new ABC drama series, Dr. Odyssey, to join Joshua Jackson on a medical emergency! That’s right, patients. Don Johnson is scrubbing up for Murphy’s mysterious new project, Dr. Odyssey, which could be a medical procedural. The 20th Century Studios series targets a fall launch, with Ryan Murphy Television leading the charge.
While details about the show remain a mystery, reports indicate it’s a medical procedural aboard a cruise ship. If we know Murphy, there’s more than ship-wide food poisoning on the menu. Details about Johnson’s character remain unknown.
Murphy will write Dr. Odyssey and executive produce with Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken. Paris Barclay directs and executive produces Dr. Odyssey. Eric Paquette, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, and Nissa Diederich also executive produce alongside Jackson.

‘The Art of Marvel Studios' What If...?, Volume 1, is a new Abrams’ official art book written by Paul Davies, showcasing director Bryan Andrews, Emmy-nominated Disney+ TV series “What If…?”, “that questions, revisits and twists classic moments”, from the ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’, available August 27, 2024:
“…with each story, ‘The Watcher’ acts as a guide through these various timelines and raises such questions as: What if ‘Ultron’ successfully defeated the ‘Avengers’ and acquired the ‘Infinity Stones’?
“What if ‘Peggy Carter’ was injected with ‘Super Soldier Serum’ instead of ‘Steve Rogers’? What if ‘T'Challa’ became ‘Star-Lord’?
“Filled with striking imagery and a bold color palette, these timelines are brought to life in an animation style that is complementary to the look and feel of the ‘MCU’ …

This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
The fifth episode of X-Men ’97 presents a major change in the status quo for mutankind, climaxing with an attack on the nation of Genosha and the deaths of several major characters. But the most consequential event may be what happens just before the attack begins.
The first half of “Remember It” plays like a reprieve for the X-Men, as they visit a radically different Genosha from the one they previously saw on X-Men: The Animated Series. Once an apartheid nation built on mutant oppression, Genosha has become a haven for mutants, allowing them to celebrate their culture. The climax of the celebration occurs in the Hellfire Gala, a ball designed to inaugurate Magneto and Rogue as the new leaders.
The party ends on a horrible note when the Master Mold arrives to wreak havoc. But just before his arrival, obscured by the fireworks in the sky,...

Production on MaXXXine, the sequel to director Ti West‘s films Pearl (watch it Here) and X (watch that one at This Link), wrapped way back in May of 2023, and we still have a few months to wait before A24 gives it a theatrical release on July 5th… but the folks on the Motion Picture Association ratings board already had the chance to watch the movie, and they have picked their rating for it. MaXXXine has earned an R for strong violence, gore, sexual content, graphic nudity, language and drug use. Sounds like a good time at the movies to me!

It was a family affair during the Warner Bros. panel at CinemaCon as movies from M. Night Shyamalan and his daughter Ishana Night Shyamalan were teased, Trap and The Watchers, respectively.
Ishana Night Shyamalan is making her feature directorial debut with The Watcher, a thriller based on the novel by A.M. Shine. Steeped in Celtic horror and set in Ireland, the film stars Dakota Fanning as Mina, “a 28-year-old artist who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers that are watching and stalking by mysterious creatures each night.” A new trailer for the movie was screened at CinemaCon, which our Chris Bumbray said was “very fantasy-esque.“
Shyamalan has previously praised his daughter’s work as she helmed several episodes of Servant. “She has slightly more of a fantasy bend than I do,” Shyamalan said. “She speaks...

Spoilers for "X-Men '97" to follow.
"X-Men '97" episode 2, "Mutant Liberation Begins," ended with a shocking cliffhanger; a Jean Grey duplicate showed up at the door of the X-Mansion, shocking the X-Men — including the other Jean, who had only just given birth to her and Scott's son Nathan. Episode 3, "Fire Made Flesh," picks up here.
If I can brag for a moment, I called this twist from the trailer (alongside some other Marvel Comics Easter eggs). The Jean (re)introduced at the beginning of "X-Men '97" is a clone, created by Mister Sinister, while he held the original captive (Beast confirms which Jean is the original by dating the pair's cells to determine which is older).
Sinister has long wanted to combine Cyclops and Jean's DNA to create the ultimate mutant; Nathan is that experiment come to fruition. So, he confronts his "daughter" (who's feeling susceptible after her entire life...

The Marvel Zombies are coming to the MCU. The animated alternate timeline will see the heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe facing a plaque that turns all metahumans into the walking dead. However, is Disney willing to go for gore and a mature rating?
Possibly! According to Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Brad Winderbaum, horror fans may rest easy knowing that the blood and guts of the comics could be represented on Disney+.
While speaking with IGN, Winderbaum did not precisely confirm that the show would be intended for mature audiences, but he is pretty sure that Marvel Zombies isn’t going to fly with a TV-Y7(-Fv) or TV-14 rating:
“In terms of more mature animation, yeah, we’re making a Marvel Zombies show right now that is pretty intense that’s for sure a TV-ma show.“
The show has no official release date yet, but it is said to premiere this year.

The drama, targeted for a fall launch, hails from 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television.
As is the case with any Ryan Murphy series, no details about the premise are being revealed. As the title suggests, Dr. Odyssey is believed to be a medical procedural. That was the setting for this season’s disaster-themed opener of Murphy’s procedural 9-1-1 in its debut on ABC, and it also harkens back to TV classic The Love Boat.

A new miniseries has been announced, and it looks fantastic.
We look at the cast list. What do we see? Oh, another show starring Nicole Kidman. Or Jake Lacy. Or Kate Winslet. Or Betty Gilpin.
You get the idea.
Look, we get it. A miniseries has limited episodes to make an impact, and a recognizable name can be a big draw.
Since it's become commonplace for renowned movie actors to make the move to television, particularly miniseries, why wouldn't a studio jump on the chance to nab a big name?
It's a winning formula -- literally.
Nicole Kidman is an Oscar winner. What television producer wouldn't want her attached to their project?
She's also snagged a couple of Emmys for her work on HBO's Big Little Lies. She's proven her worth as a TV star.
The same can be said about Kate Winslet, who similarly made the jump from movies to television.

Production on MaXXXine, the sequel to director Ti West‘s films Pearl (watch it Here) and X (watch that one at This Link), is said to have wrapped last May, around the time that production company and distributor A24 unveiled a first look image from the movie that shows franchise star Mia Goth alongside singer Halsey. (That image can be seen at the bottom of this article.) Things have been pretty quiet on the MaXXXine front since then, aside from news of a lawsuit being filed by a background actor – but now, thanks to the YouTube interview show What’s Under the Bed?, we have a bit of a status update from West, who also happened to show off a prop from the film during his interview.
At about the 26:37 point of the What’s Under the Bed? interview, West is asked about the props he has kept from the movies he has made.

Wonka will start streaming on Max next month, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said today, outlining what he called a strong streaming content slate highlighted Warner Bros. films, including one of last quarter’s most successful theatrical releases amid some disappointments.
Zaslav noted the date speaking to investors on a call after quarterly earnings, which were mixed as the company engineers a slow turnaround.
Also coming to Max from Warner Bros., he noted, are Aquaman And The Last Kingdom on Feb. 27, and Dune: Part Two “this spring,” said Zaslav — no date. The Dennis Villeneuve sequel opens next week after being pushed from its opening last year due to Hollywood strikes.
Wonka, which opened in December at $39 million, has passed $211 million at the domestic box office and $608 million worldwide. The musical fantasy origin story of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka, is directed by Paul King, who co-wrote the screenplay with Simon Farnaby.

Netflix has unveiled the slate of TV series set to release new seasons in 2024, and some of the streamer’s biggest series are not on the list, delayed by the writers and actors strikes.
Stranger Things‘ fifth and final season, which just started production earlier this month, will not debut until 2025, making for a three-year gap between both Seasons 3 and 4 (due to the pandemic) and Seasons 4 and 5.
Given the extensive VFX work involved in the series, which was originally slated to start filming Season 5 in May, the delay is not surprising.
Ditto for the series that dethroned Stranger Things as Netflix’s most popular series, Wednesday, which is not scheduled to begin production on Season 2 until late April in a new location, Ireland, and breakout new 2023 drama One Piece, which also is yet to start filming on its second season.

Plot: Acclaimed writer Truman Capote surrounded himself with a coterie of society’s most elite women – rich, glamorous socialites who defined a bygone era of high society New York – whom he nicknamed “the swans.” Enchanted and captivated by these doyennes, Capote ingratiated himself into their lives, befriending them and becoming their confidante, only to ultimately betray them by writing a thinly veiled fictionalization of their lives, exposing their most intimate secrets. When an excerpt from the book, Answered Prayers, Capote’s planned magnum opus, was published in Esquire, it effectively destroyed his relationship with his swans, banished him from the high society he so loved and sent him into a spiral of self-destruction from which he would ultimately never recover.

Almost seven years after its inaugural season aired, the FX anthology series “Feud” has finally returned for a second stand-alone installment. Whereas its first season dramatized the bitter rivalry between classic film actresses Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, its second – subtitled “Capote vs. The Swans” – tells the story of how author Truman Capote betrayed his friendships with half a dozen New York socialites by deviously incorporating scandalous details from their personal lives into the novel “Answered Prayers.” Take a look through our photo gallery comparing the new season’s eight main cast members to the real people they portray.
Like “Feud: Bette and Joan,” “Capote vs. The Swans” is (partially) set in the 1960s, during which Capote began writing “Answered Prayers.” Although he sporadically continued to work on the book over the next two decades, he failed to finish it before his death in 1984 and instead only witnessed the publication...

At a time when the Marvel Cinematic Universe feels more and more creatively stale, with the box office reflecting this, "Marvel's What If...?" is a breath of fresh air. The animated show offers writers and animators an opportunity to tell the kind of wildly creative stories that the McU's movies can't — both because they have to adhere to the Marvel formula and continuity, and because of budget constraints.
Though the first season was a bit formulaic, with most of the episodes following the plot of a previously-released Marvel movie (but with a little twist), the second season did a better job of exploring the infinite possibilities of the MCU multiverse. As Vanessa Armstrong wrote in her review for /Film, season 2 was "a zany, refreshing mix of stories."

The second season of What If? has been dropped by Marvel Studios in a year that has seen both the rise and fall of the MCU. The final Guardians of the Galaxy and the second season of Loki were absolute triumphs, while the rest was pretty much a let down. I’m not even going to go into the Jonathan Major fiasco, but that must have hurt the MCU, and the future of this thing doesn’t look too bright. Considering all these, it was essential for Marvel to wrap up this year strong, and the good news is that What If? has been quite successful in doing that. With the anthology format, it was a given that some of the episodes would not be that good, while others might just be extraordinary. And that’s exactly how it went. We’re going to rank the new batch of episodes...

The finale of the second season of Marvel’s What If…? animated series will debut on Disney+ tomorrow, but Jeffrey Wright is dropping a few teases right now.
Jeffrey Wright voices The Watcher on the series and spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming season finale. “There’s always a push towards something that’s befitting the epic nature of this series. What I love about the Marvel Universe is that when it’s done right, there’s a type of modern myth-making that happens on a pop culture level, and it goes back to the oldest types of storytelling,” Wright said. “The stories of these heroines and heroes is something that’s almost primal to humans, and the culmination here is epic and sweeping, so it’s only fitting. It’s cool stuff… I’m excited to see the evolution of Strange [Benedict Cumberbatch] from where we last found him.

The Watcher doesn’t usually revisit a story from the multiverse because of the vastness of these alternative realities. But in Episode 5 of What If? season 2, the Watcher narrated the story of Peggy Carter, who became the super soldier Captain America, instead of Steve Rogers. However, Steve turned out to be living inside the armor of a Hydra Stomper, under the control of someone more sinister and powerful. A New Year is just around the corner, and Netflix’s upcoming roster of Original titles includes over 100 returning shows that will be back for new seasons. Some Netflix shows remain unclear on whether they’ll ever return, and in the case of the below, we suspect they’ve all been quietly canceled.
For these shows, we refer to them as ghost canceled. This means they’ve been effectively canceled behind the scenes but haven’t been publicly announced. These announcements are either because Netflix won’t confirm or nobody behind the show publicly announced the cancelation.
As always, cancelations are due to a number of reasons. With a few of these, it’ll be purely down to the length of time since the last season premiered, and then you’ve got the usual issues of performance.

Every time I see Dick Van Dyke’s name in a headline lately, I fear the worst. But this week it meant a joyous celebration. In CBS’ new two-hour special “Dick Van Dyke: 98 Years of Magic,” the legendary actor — who throughout his career has won multiple Emmys, a Tony and a Grammy Award — was honored on his 98th birthday for his many contributions to the arts.
The tribute, which is now streaming on Paramount+, features special performances by Jason Alexander, Rufus Wainwright, Weird Al Yankovic, Rita Ora and Amber Riley, among others. Meanwhile, the guest list is just as long and just as impressive as Van Dyke’s career. Dame Julie Andrews, Mel Brooks, Rob Reiner, Carol Burnett, Ted Danson, Stanley Tucci and Lin-Manuel Miranda are just a few of the celebs who appear during the star-studded event. And to top it all off, there’s a holiday number too.

Review: 2023 has been rough for Marvel Studios. After the box office disappointments of The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and the critical failure of Secret Invasion along with Jonathan Majors’ real-life legal woes putting the Multiverse Saga in jeopardy, the MCU has one final shot to try and redeem themselves in the eyes of fans.
