I Actually laughed
Mehki_Girl8 November 2022
A lot of this was cringy (get rid of that canned laughter!), but there were some jokes that landed - the ones in the trailers and especially the Tiktok one with Lopez and his ex. I thought that was really funny.

I also laughed at the kid's face when Lopez asked if he had told him the story about the man born with the body of an owl.

Unlike what another commenter said, we old folks actually know what tiktok is and there are plenty of older people who have content and quite a few followers.

Maybe the person who thinks we don't know needs to get out more (🙄)

Will I stick with this show? Maybe. I have stuck with shows who's pilot wasn't the best and the actors and characters melded over time. Also I didn't find the acting poor.

Maybe I damn with faint praise...

Let's hope this one improves. BTW, I didn't like his original show which came across, to me, as just another generic sitcom in "brownface", instead of being a unique experience of Latino culture.

I'm not Hispanic, but I'm not white either and I've watched plenty of sitcoms with mostly white characters that I thought were really funny and I really thought his show would be unique and, to me, it just wasn't.

Maybe the second time will be the charm.

LAUGH TRACKS SUCK
spreadeagle17-114 December 2022
Why in the world do sitcom producers still insist on adding laugh tracks? Are they afraid their shows just aren't funny, that audiences can't judge for themselves? In the case of this particular show, yep. These producers need to check out Abbott Elementary and Young Sheldon, shows that are huge hits that don't need laugh tracks. (A big mystery there is why Chuck Lorre continues to produce other sitcoms that are still plastered with those dreaded tracks).

I tried to get my teenage granddaughters interested in Lopez vs Lopez. They watched about ten minutes of the pilot and said no way, we hate laugh tracks.

All that said, I still like this show, even though my husband doesn't for the reason I keep harping on.

Not bad, not great, just good enough for me
savvysprite23 November 2022
I grew up with GL as a half Mexican kid growing up as a military brat. He was one of many comedians that gave me a harsher understanding of Mexicans. Honestly, comedy shows with laugh tracks just aren't IT anymore even with laughter recording or live show audience laughter. I also vibe with the idea that Tiktok is involved with it to make it modern.

I think people also dont understand that Mayan, George's daughter is also one of the creator's of this show as well. It's not bad for a first time creator. I don't know if it will make it past season 1 or 2 in this day and age but I personally am enjoying it. It won't be everyone's cup of tea.

I'd say give it a shot, if you don't like it, move on.

Can't stand the laugh track
donrule5 November 2022
The canned laughter happens even when nothing funny happens, which is most of the show. I might watch another few episodes if it were not for the laugh track. When will the networks realize we don't need or want canned laughter. Film in front of a studio audience or just leave the laughter for us at home.

Additionally I found the characters annoying and the TikTok scene were annoying. I think they must have decided to add the laugh track because they knew the show itself was not funny. Watching a drunk father try to get back into a relationship with his daughter is not funny. But the show is also not good as a drama. Just all around disappointing. The actors could do better than this.

Has potential
jesxie8 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I like it but the daughter is annoying and her lines are always cringey I missed George Lopez kinda wished they had brought back his old show but I enjoy him in this I would prefer if they changed the actress for the daughter as I think her acting isn't that good this show has potential but it's not there yet

Also the whole tiktok thing in the show is weird and out of no where I wish that would stop needs a better intro as well Again has potential but could be better I hope there is a second season Best thing about this show is seeing George Lopez on screen !!

Give it a try if you're debating.

Lopez Vs Lopez Is A Welcomed Change We Needed For Awhile!
avalonmmxxii10 March 2023
Lopez vs Lopez is a welcome change after many years of dramas dominating primetime lineup and having to live through the Covid pandemic.

Having a show like this is a welcome change we have needed for awhile. I also feel happy there is a live audience! Some shows just work better with an audience to carry the theme.

From what I understand the concept of this show is based somewhat on George Lopez actual life and his relationship with his daughter.

So while I might not like seeing a drunk George Lopez, that is how he was yeas ago. I am not sure if he actually smoked weed though, that might just have been written in the show for creative reasons or to appeal to younger viewers. The same with perhaps heavy influence about social media, smartphones and texting which is seen on many tv shows today. The writers often decide these things and why years later we can tell certain era's of each tv show we see in reruns based on the overuse of certain phrases, or objects used in the episodes...such as the overuse of smartphones today.

While I might not be a fan of the weed smoking on the show I still like the show and feel it still needs time to develop since it is new. While this show is very new, it is somewhat still in it's phase of finding it's niche...but most shows are like that in their early seasons.

I have read some of the previous user reviews for this show and noticed two things...people either keep comparing this show to the classic 2000's George Lopez sitcom that was on abc and say this show is not as good as the 2000's show was....or I am reading that this show is too similar to the 2000's sitcom he had on abc. I am not going to say this is like either though, because it is not.

This is a completely different show from the classic George Lopez Show on abc back in the 2000's. I don't understand why some people expect the same formula every time George Lopez comes out with something, while others are saying it is the exact same concept as the show from the 2000's. I guess you will never be able to please everyone.

Either way, I hope this show continues as it has brought a smile on many peoples faces as well as laughs, something we really did not see much in sitcoms back in the 2010's much, and after the departing gift of the 2010's gave us covid...believe me we can all use some laughs now! Hope Lopez vs Lopez show continues.

The jokes miss the mark
landonlandonlandon-928455 November 2022
I sat down in the evening and watched it with my family, looking for a laugh. I don't think anyone of us laughed during the 22 minutes of the show. Jokes missed the mark almost every time and the acting was brutal from George Lopez. His character is this unlikable obnoxious, rude older man he always is. His jokes are just blah. I don't see how this was a comedy even. The daughter is not much better in jokes and came off as annoying. Honestly I didn't find it humorous and couldn't get into it. Wouldn't watch it again. I really wanted to like it but I found no characters lovable or anything to sympathize or relate to in this sitcom.

Don't Believe the Bad Reviews!
ilovetheangels14 January 2023
Don't believe all of the negative reviews. Lopez VS. Lopez is a damn funny show. And it's also very sweet. Brice Gonzalez as Chance and Matt Shively as Quinten are the best. His daughter, Mayan, is pretty good too. I didn't care for Selenis Leyva as his ex-wife at first, but she's kind of grown on me. I really like Al Madrigal as George's best friend. I even enjoy the plots regarding the Vet clinic, especially when it included Caroline Rhea. I think the writing is excellent and has me and my husband laughing out loud every week. George Lopez is smart, funny and true to himself, and I admire that. Give the show a chance people! We need the laughs!

Horrible.
NullUnit5 November 2022
This is pretty much the EXACT same show George Lopez keeps doing over and over and over and over. How does he get away with having essentially the SAME sitcom produced under different names??

This appears to be more nepotism than anything... G. Lopez trying to buy a career boost for his daughter. Too bad she can't really act if this show is any indication. And G Lopez can't act either, he never has. He's the same exact character in everything - even his standup - which is why he's always called by his real name in all his (repetitious) sitcoms. I imagine he gets confused if he has to actually use a character name.

Anyway.. a canned laugh track for an unfunny show with pretty poor acting all around and repeating the same jokes G Lopez has used for decades.

Hard pass - even on free tv.

MY FAVORITE COMEDY 2022!!!
unlvrebels-535314 December 2022
Omgad! Have never been much of a george lopez fan before, but this show is freekin funny lololololol! The banter between the characters and quick whips are so side splitting hilarious, akin to "Will & Grace" lolz. I've never laughed so many times and so hard, especially episode three.

I especially like George vs everybody else. Mayan can hold her own against his incessant insults and deflect them all effectively. His ex wife is sassy and a hoot! His gringo son-in-law is a hottie. His grandson is a lil cutie patootie with an attitude lolz. And his constantly high best friend is a great sidekick. Looking forward to watching many more episodes.

It's a no for me
jsosaaa18 November 2022
I wanted to love it soooo bad. I miss the early 2000s George Lopez show. This missed the mark soooo bad for me. I almost want to cry. The language surprised me. I often re watch the old show with my kiddos and they love it & expected to love this just as much. But I didn't expect for him to call his daughter a b**ch. He comes off very rude, he's a drunk, a pothead & his attitude is not likable at all. His voice is kinda different too. Seems like he slurs a bit or something. Maybe he really is high while recording ? Not funny, not a good storyline & the canned laughter is so cringy... I'm so sad. Mayan seems likable but unfortunately her acting missed the mark as well. I will keep re watching the old George Lopez show. Will not watch another episode.

I'll give it a shot.
donnydeutsch-833427 November 2022
Saw a TikTok video about this and decided to check it out. I was so excited to Brice Gonzalez from tiktok on here. I am such a huge fan of his. I hope Hollywood treats him well and I'm looking forward to seeing him on this show.

I enjoyed the first episode and hope they are able to build on it. I was a fan ofthe first George Lopez show and was at first thinking this might be a reboot but I think it will do good.

It would be nice to see some of the characters from that show make guest appearances. I did love that they brought the theme song from the first show on. You have expect some kind of crossover.

Awful
romoviv6 November 2022
I didn't expect Lopez to depict an older man who's broke living with his daughter due to cheating, drinking and poor money habits. I don't like the image he shows about Latinos. I only watched 2 episodes and I couldn't stand it anymore.

His first original show was better. It had better jokes theme and plot. It had nothing to do with him being a terrible dad who lost everything.

I think for this one they tried to make it more like a novela or a little more realistic adding a few jokes here & there, but overall very stereotypical. I rather go see him live for a stand up. Hopefully, he comes up with something better.

This is the FUNNIEST SHOW ON TV!
senegalstyle19 December 2022
'Lopez vs Lopez' is the FUNNIEST SHOW on tv right now!

I couldn't get any work done yesterday - I was ROLLING and literally crying in one scene I laughed so hard! I'm a baby boomer, ADOS and grew up with real comedians and George Lopez has always been one of my favorites. He's outdone himself here though!

They have a little boy on there that's a stone cold trip and such a great actor. NO SPOILERS and that's all I can say.

I can't believe the ratings are only a 5.5.... People are saying it's funny then give it a 5 or 6? I see the same with Black movies and shows too so don't let them dissuade you.

George Lopez is a comedic writing genius and this show is funny as hell. Give them a ten and give it a watch. I promise, if you're having a bad day, you'll forget about it!

Awful all the way around
fabscott-183386 November 2022
This show has everything: bad premise, bad writing, bad acting, bad laugh track, bad music (borrowed from another sitcom?). But even then, I was determined to watch the entire episode to see if it would come anywhere near to redeeming itself. Unfortunately, it never even came close and only became more cringeworthy as it proceeded. It felt like someone unearthed an old unfunny sitcom and assumed it could be fast-forwarded to the 2022 audience. What an unfortunate waste of effort and money for everyone involved and really an embarrassment for the network.

Keep trying NBC but this just isn't it.

Funny Show, great writing, great cast chemistry!
willvazquez9 July 2023
This is a great show, and the only TV show I watch on broadcast television. It has excellent writing and you can tell that the writers are either really Cuban and/or Mexican, or have a deep understanding of the different latino cultures. The storylines are rich and the comedy writing is top notch. None of the great writing would be enough if it wasn't for the fantastic cast. There is wonderful chemistry between the cast members and they really seem like family, and even though George is the star, the strong performances by Mayan, Selenis, Brice and Al make the show fun to watch, and my favorite is Matt Shively who plays Quinten, what a funny dude!

Overall it's a great show with "real" characters. George's character is cringy at times, but a real person. I'm a little younger than George, but when I see him, he reminds me of my best friend, a total degenerate and terrible dad, but with redeeming qualities of deep down inside being a good person who has learned from his previous mistakes. Nobody's perfect. There shouldn't be criticism of the writing of his character, but of recognizing that this type of person is real. And there is something in every character that a viewer can find something to relate to.

Big thumbs up to the proper Latino representation. I love how Selenis' curves and big butt are proudly displayed. She's hot! I love that there are diverse actors and with every kind of look. These are your friends and family on this show, not the typical "model" look.

I hope there are many more seasons to come. Can't wait for season 2.

Libsplaining and Latino/Latina stereotypes, bad mix.
chaz405200215 March 2023
Hate the premise that just continues the stereotype of the drunk Latino. (Comes back into his daughter's life after 10 years due to boozing only to continue boozing?) The libsplaining makes the daughter and partner unlikable. George's friend is a druggie. Lots of bad language. There are funny moments. The grandson is pretty funny and has great comedic timing. The ex wife is good too although more of a Latina caricature at times. The guest cast in one of the episodes brings back most of the George Lopez show back which was a great touch and made for a good episode. Maybe it will get better but not looking good.

Enjoyable Show
daze_r11 May 2023
My husband and I laugh with every episode. Im not sure why all the negative reviews? There is much worse out there. When watching the show, I often wonder how much of it is a reflection on George's real life. It's heartwarming to see father and daughter's reconnection and how they have worked out some of their difficulties. The characters are really funny and we appreciate the guest appearances! We just finished the season and the final episode was especially touching. This show is different from most that are out there and as a Latina I can attest that most of the subjects are identifiable.

I am hoping that the will renew for Season 2!

Not that good
chrio1-212 November 2022
I've been watching George Lopez show reruns and loved them. When I heard that he had a new show I thought great. Loved George. The plot sounded good. I've watched the first two episodes and I don't care for it. I love his daughter and the actor who plays her husband. Those are the only two likable characters. I don't like George and he was the reason I watched. The George that is portrayed is more like the George Lopez the tabloids used to talk about. Alcoholism, etc .Which is sad. They have included an annoying laughter track probably because the show isn't funny. Sadly to say I really don't see myself watching anymore episodes.

Off to a good start but.
Therealmoviereviewer6 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Off to a good start but could be better wish Angie Carmen and max were in this though. George is still funny though ahahah. But hopefully maybe they can bring Angie, and max, and Carmen in for some episodes. But it's pretty good so far. Hopefully they bring back some old characters again ernie would be a good one as well to bring back.

But over all I thought it was a good episode. He shouldn't of called his daughter the bAtch But it's just a tv show so I don't take it seriously. George lopez talks about his mom like he did in the last George lopez. They could do more things to make the show better. Maybe a little less cussing.

Derivative and Uncomfortable
trippandreessen5 November 2022
As a Hispanic-American/European, George Lopez's new show makes me feel embarrassed of my heritage. Lopez vs. Lopez feels more like a corporate shove at the 1 yard line rather than an organically-merited television show like we've come to love in years past. The themes and meme-stock value of this show are a blanket for current culture, instead of a comedic vision for the future. Sadly, this show will go sour in a short period of time. Compared to previous NBC evening weekly programming, this is a certified bust. The conservative, teenage humor is an uncomfortable, friction-ridden experience that makes me worry about what's coming next. Not because of tone and affect, but because it makes me cringe to the core.

Laughed a lot
hdstclair24 November 2022
I don't know about these low reviews but I was looking for something to make me laugh. I found this show it I have laughed so hard. I think that they incorporate modern technology well as a way show the generational divide. All three episodes so far has delivered for me. I enjoy the relationship of George Lopez's character with his daughter and ex-wife. The daughter's son is cute and has fun moments with his grandparent. I hope this show stays around for awhile. I am looking forward to more episodes because I just need a show that makes me laugh. I have already watched each episode twice. I really find this a fun show.

George Lopez Not Funny
robnielsen-6479128 November 2022
George Lopez and this show is so unfunny that it actually brings me anger. Do you want to get laugh reactions from people? Or do you just want people to want to punch him in the face? The writing is terrible, his acting is terrible, the fake laughter is terrible. What's with his hair? You go out in public with that hair???? Let alone do a television show with it? BARF. I am shocked this made it past the pilot. No way in hell this gets a 2nd season, and thank God for that. Just absolutely awful all around. I hate this show so much I just had to write a review. This is only my 2nd review ever. I can't take it anymore.

Would be funnier without George Lopez
pennsy22-17-20828424 January 2023
There are funny parts, but the overuse of the alcoholic father trying to reconnect with his daughter gets old. Alcohol caused him to lose his wife and daughter, but it hasn't taught him anything and he still over drinks and smokes weed. Very disappointing the feel to normalize this behavior in what could have been a good story about a blended family and a father trying to make amends. The rest of the cast do a good job, trying to make up for the fact that George Lopez brings the whole show down. The bashing of Whites, the glorifying of marijuana use, and the continuous alcohol consumption by the main character are the themes of the show. I'm disappointed that a show that could bring people together only feeds into stereotypes.
