Twist after Twist after Twist
tarascopablo29 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So the general concept of the show is quite good and some of the characters -in my opinion- are well written and clever. This series deal in a lot of twists and twists and twists after twists so it is hard to keep track of everything going on with everyone.

I felt the ending of this season was a bit rushed and i am not quite sure i like it... it´s not the surprise and final revelation that bothers but rather that given those new facts... well, nothing makes quite sense anymore. Whatever happens next will have to include a great deal of explanation by Mason and i don´t think he will be forgiven.

Regarding acting, Richard Madden is a step down from the talent of Priyanka Chopra Jonas and i truly believe the producers wasted the opportunity to give us more of Mr. Tucci.

The directorial efforts... well. Good but not great. Those upside-down shots were annoying and after the second one, completely unnecessary.

Regarding the announcement of a new season/spin-off staring Matilda de Angelis? I couldn´t be more excited. Mrs. De Angelis is perhaps the most promising young Italian talent.

Now... just one final remark... why does everything has to be a universe? Spyverse? Spiderverse? Marvelverse? Dcverse? It is kind of tiring.

Citadel is flashy and fun but neglects its substance - Season 1 Review
phoenix-prjct5 January 2024
Citadel is a slick hit that suffers from a bit of an identity crisis. It chases after old-school James Bond vibes while falling for some more soap opera-y plot lines (gold for me, but it might be a little much for some). Helmed by the painfully attractive Richard Madden (playing Mason Kane) and Priyanka Chopra Jonas (playing Nadia Sinh), Citadel aims for blockbuster heights but is tied down by its more procedural TV platform.

Citadel undoubtedly needed more time to set itself up, let it stories cook, and better deliver the global ramifications of an epic spy thriller, but with capable leads, an irresistible romance, and slick action beats, it can be forgiven (a little) for its focus on style over substance. An anticlimactic finale delivers the series's greatest twist, setting up solid and rocky ground for an announced second season.

Secrets in Night Need Early Rains
Prismark107 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Citadel reveals its secrets but then leaves the set up for Season 2.

Nadia was set up to be the mole because she has her memories and a secret daughter. If Mason Kane had secrets he would not know about them. He has no memories.

Starting with flashbacks in Serbia, 30 years earlier when a young boy is surrounded by tragedy. He lost his father and eventually ends up living in Oregon with his grandmother.

Only the young boy is Mason Kane. His father was killed by Citadel agents in a botched airstrike in Serbia. His mother had wanted to bring down the evil corrupt Citadel from that day onwards.

When Mason Kane gets his memories restored. He realises that he was the mole all along. His mother is Dahlia.

The preposterous final reveal at least livened up another mundane episode.

Entertainment? Yes, but barely.

A jumbled SciFi mess of jumping time backwards / forwards / backwards again in time. Big set pieces are Bond-like but the storyline needs aggressive editing by a real editor to remove the ridiculous. I get the feeling this kind of mini-series is what you will increasingly get in the world of subscription TV: budget spent on blockbusting CGI rather than tight quality screen writing. Sad really because the early episodes had some real promise - the Italian train sequence was brilliant but it all got lost by the end of the series. Still, I guess I stick it out to the end which justifies the 3/10 rating.

Episode 6
bobcobb30126 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Well, we had one more twist left in this show and this was a bad one. So, in the end nothing in the first episode mattered because they were just going to continue turning out world upside down. They also teased the second season after this episode wrapped and it will likely be an all new cast, which makes the twist at the end mean even less.

This season had a lot of action and some funny (and some unintentionally funny) dialogue, but overall this was a little bit of a flop. Hoping that this doesn't deter Priyanka Chopra Jonas from tackling another TV show because it'd be great to get her on TV again.
