Not Blaring From Heavens
bonniath-1396811 November 2022
Those huge blasts of sound heard from the sky years ago and posted all over the internet intrigued and frightened people all over the world. It's a subject that could make a great movie. Lots of folks have been waiting for something like this. Unfortunately, Project Skyquake doesn't fulfill our wishes.

Another amateur/found footage flick with a minuscule bit of real actors just bored me. I want some real scientific explanation along with excitement, action or at least scares.

The last 5 or 6 minutes are creepy in a sort of alien way. That's it. Not enough scares, weirdness, or real sci-fi to suit any intelligent person.

Blair Witch for False Prophecy
kurtisjvandermolen23 January 2023
This is a genre that I call "Spi-Fi" for Spiritual Fiction. Based on an inauthentic book according to New Testament scholars including Ehrman, "Revelations", this false prophecy of "end times" is once again recycled into a cheap thriller, brought to us seemingly by the "Blair Witch" people. The conversations, car rides, and house tour are pure time fillers. Most often I abide the full length of a movie before reviewing, but since we have all seen this format before, and all know the supposed plot, I found the 10-second forward button very useful. In sum, the "everyone is a journalist" approach to movie-making is a trending disaster contributing to the dumbing down of people who catch a glimpse out their window between virtual experiences.

Common Sense not applied here.
ReviewerBrianTopp3 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Common sense is something that the writer and director just seem to forget about.

Our main hero gets a job and decides to go on a big adventure. If I got a job, I wouldn't be travelling around, but hey, to each of their own.

After hearing a voice from the radio, they decide to drive off, but their car just dies. So our smart heroines decide to go to a nearby house and get help. They knocked quietly on the front door and barely waited two seconds before entering the house because people normally answer the door instantly.

After they leave the empty house, they decide to head back to their car, but they get a phone call from an unknown caller, and it takes them forever to answer the phone because they don't know who it is.

When they get trapped in the woods, they decide to return to the house and get drunk. Who cares about having a clear head in a dangerous situation?

They wake up inside the house in the middle of the night after they hear a noise. They use their flash lights and stomp around the house looking for the source, but they find a couple of guys in cheap costumes and masks standing outside with candles.

The next morning, they decide to investigate where the cultists were hanging out while talking loudly, not caring if they might be near by.

They try and get the cars at the house to start, but stop to answer a phone call from Scott. He tells this in-depth story about his family and a town and how the government covered it up. They just sit there, listening and treating it like an interview, while still trapped in the woods. Did they say, 'HELP, WE ARE TRAPPED?'.. no.

Then the end scene just leaves you scratching your head with the twist in the story.

Also, the interview had a pure black screen of Scott talking. Who does that? Add screen shots, pictures of ducks, or anything else that doesn't show black. The male cultists and strangers just fell over the entire time in the movie; they weren't threatening; they just kept falling over.

Phenomenal "Lost Footage" Film
cartrektccom23 July 2022
Project Skyquake is filmed in the "lost footage" style that was popularized by Blair Witch Project. I've followed the work of József Gallai on previous movies and he never disappoints. He is an amazing writer and director and has a great eye for compelling storylines.

This movie takes the real world phenomenon of "skyquakes" (go ahead and Google it; fascinating stuff) and puts a compelling sci-fi twist on it by creatively offering a possible fictional explanation.

The mystery and tension builds with some impressive dialogue driven plot by the two main protagonists played by Laura Saxon & Laura Ellen Wilson. The chemistry between them is impressive and makes for a compelling mystery that pulls in the viewer. I would be very surprised if they don't get some kind of award for their performance.

I would have easily given this movie 10 stars except for a couple of points. First, the plot took a slightly religious turn that seemed unnecessary given the previous setup. There were also a couple of spots during the movie where it was not clear why the two lead actresses had chosen to take certain actions. That being said, the character development was phenomenal and good use was made of Tom Sizemore and Robert LaSardo in support roles to strengthen the mystery that the two main protagonists were attempting to solve.

All in all, well worth checking it out if you see it doing the film festival circuit or if you have the option to rent or purchase it. You'll thank yourself later!

Blair Witch meets Cloverfield
gothicvampjb10 October 2022
I went into watching this movie without any idea what it was about and enjoyed every minute. Has a very Blair Witch Project found footage feel but with a Sci-Fi take in the mix. Stars 2 extremely brilliant actresses, firstly Laura Ellen Wilson who is such a talented star in my opinion (I may be biased as I know her in real life as well) but I've enjoyed every movies she has been in and this one is no exception and Laura Saxon, who not only play best friends in the movie but a great friends in reality which helps the pair act together very well. Great movie all around and a great director.19/10.
