"Death of a Boxer" is a Jordanian 8-minute live action short film from 7 years ago. The writer and director is Naji Abu Nowar and this was his very first work as a filmmaker. His newest movie is nominated for 2 BAFTAs and an Academy Award, so he is certainly enjoying a great breakthrough right now. In terms of his work here, we follow the live of a boxer who dreams of participating in the Olympic Games, but something gets in the way as you already read in the title. It was not what I expected though. The acting and writing in here is still very raw and I am not sure if this is based somehow on real-life events, but it still made for a decent watch. No greatness here, but worth spending under 10 minutes for sure. Thumbs up.
