Wait for the punchline
For about 50 minutes this episode sort of meanders along. Don't get me wrong. Even at its slowest, the work on this series is light years of ahead of just about anything else on the small screen. The detail and care taken in each and every shot remains a marvel. Check out Susie in her office or when she's rummaging in Chinatown. Even a stripper's window washing scene is meticulously staged and filmed. There's a lot to like in this episode. But not a lot to rave about, until the end.

Some mini-moments work. The Godfather meets the Matchmakers 'sit down' is a lot of fun. Same with Sophie Lennon's stint in Midge's apartment. Jane Lynch does a lot of scene stealing once again simply by being restrained by her characters' craziness. But there are some misses too.

Midge's ex Joel continues to pop up only to slow the show down. And the rapid fire borscht belt lines the writers give to his girlfriend seem forced and distracting. Likewise, the new magician character. He's a vehicle for Susie's ambitions, but as a presence on the show he's annoying. My personal belief that too many characters with too many story lines is the one thing that holds this series back from being one of the best of all time. And speaking of the best...

The final six minutes of this show speaks volumes to the times, the dynamics of changes of show business and most of all to the stead fast character within the character of Mrs. Maisel.

Jane Lynch and Rachel Brosnihan go mano-a mano in an ever-escalating battle of insecurities vs. Sureness of ambition. And it's a classic duel. A summation of the series and a punchline that's going to really hurt one of the two combatants.

Love the familiar faces

Love this series and the characters never disappoint. Especially Suzie, aka Alex, who really deserves an Emmy for the season. Love the interaction with her and her secretary.

However...I am so pleased to see some familiar faces from Gilmore Girls!! Emily Gilmore, aka Kelly Bishop who was literally born to play that role and Michels Mom, what a treat ...I sincerely appreciate the inclusion of these beloved characters as well as Paris in previous episodes.

The "sit down " with the Matchmakers was priceless.. you guys are masters.

The Marvelous Ms. Myerson

Let's just be honest, Susie is the best character on the show. She's the only one who is trying to build up her career, something's she set out to do since the beginning, and her character and subplots have brought the most laughs so far.

Everything with Midge is one step forward, two steps back. Meeting old enemies, going on pointless dates, denying money and hesitantly taking work when she is clearly in debt and unable to afford her lifestyle. Maybe the reviewer in the newspaper is all of us deep down...

And everyone else in the show is just there. Two more episodes left. My head hurts.

Another Emmy for Alex Borstein
michael-563-16196013 March 2022
Alex Borstein is stealing the series as Susy.

Tony Shaloub is still my favorite in his reincarnation of Monk and is great in every episode.

The character of Susy is really right up there.

Kudos to Marin Hinkle as Mrs. Weissman. Kevin Pollack as Moishe Maisel is spot on. Luke Kirby is perfect as Lenny Bruce. Jane Lynch is great as Sophie Lennon.

Looking forward to Rachel Brosnahan's lead character Mrs. Maisel breaking through and going on tour again.

I hope the series gets picked up for season 5.

Enjoy the episode and series.

Back on Track

Midge is so caught up in self pity that she is becoming unattractive. The writers have taken away much of her drive. Susy continues to steal scene after scene. Her business in her new office is really funny as she tries to establish herself. One thing we saw finally was Midge out there peddling her wares, away from the strip club. Of course, she crossed Sophie and a chance to get out of debt. The business with Lenny Bruce was as flat as can be. Still, I was taken with this epiode.

Suzie

Warning: Spoilers
Can we get rid of Midge and focus on Suzie?

I am mostly kidding but I am beginning to get tired of Midge entitled self. Zelda is absolutely right in being mad at her. And when you warm one for somebody, that somebody is the star. Deal with it, especially if you want money.

This episode was great. Suzie was amazing as ever. So was Sophie. I also think Rose was very good and even when they did not have much screentime, I think all the other characters were funny (Abe, Joel, Mei, even Imogene). I just find Midge irritating. I want someone to tell her how unconsiderate and self-centered she is.

new writing team?????
This show checks so many boxes (idea, casting, locale, producer pedigree) that even the bad episodes are pretty good. Problem is, there have been a LOT of bad episodes since Season 1. This is the first episode in a long time that captures the zing of that first year and provides hope that the writing may yet return to the old standard.

Lots of good stuff but the plot goes off the rails
hugh-33-580094 April 2022
Some terrific scenes and bits as usual. However the storyline isn't believable. Midge is a smart, ambitious woman but instead acts like a petulant and rather stupid child, which is untrue to her character. A disappointing episode in generally excellent series. Maybe the writers are running out of ideas. I hope they bring the series to a close before Midge puts on skies.

igotdatfosho - I am copying this reviewer' review - The marvelous Ms. Myerson

...... I will add to it that I don't mind Jane Lynch's Portrayal of Sophie but why the hell does the character MEI repeat everything six times. This show did not need another annoying female In the cast. I keep watching because I like the character Lenny Bruce and I like Susie of course. I won't watch another season however. It's not good when you fast forward to get to the characters you enjoy watching just because most other characters are so annoying and this goes double for Mrs. Maisel.

Convoluted Mess.
jp-20629 August 2022
This story has gone so far off the rails. It's nowhere near a natural evolution. Everyone just yells all the time. The 21st century lexicon in 1960 doesn't work. I'm just trying to finish the damn season. There's no way the last scene would have happened in real life; this season is the fever dream of a bunch of clueless millennial writers.

What is the point of Mei? What is the point of the magician? Who is Mike? Hell, why is Joel still in all of this and who the hell cares about his mother and father? There's so many story lines and so much yelling and so much cussing that would have never happened in 1960; I'm glad I get free shipping with Amazon Prime because I sure as heck wouldn't pay a premium service for this dreck.
