The dinner dilemma
The U.S.S. Appleby is docked along the French Rivera. Washington wants the crew to entertain important politicians in the area. Commander Stoner (Jack Albertson) instructs Ensign O'Toole (Dean Jones) and Lt. St. John (Jack Mullaney) to complete the necessary paperwork. O'Toole sneakily arranges with the commander to be put in charge of the food so he and Lt. St. John can be among the beautiful beach babes in bikinis. The commander entrusts them with $500 to secure the food. They quickly lose it and begin to track down St. John's other uniform. At the cleaner's they find the envelope is empty and the owner is spending a lot of money- including a generous gift to the local police. The crew must come up with the food for the dinner on their own- by inventive means. O'Toole and St. John pose as Naval Intelligence to gain access to host the party at the grand Wellington Estate on the Rivera by convincing caretaker Fournot (go-to Italian TV character actor Jay Novello) that the Wellingtons are under suspicion. An engaging episode with some comedy.
