The USS Appleby is docked in Japan with the crew bringing all sorts of souvenirs on the ship. Commander Stoner (Jack Albertson) decrees that any souvenirs that can't fit in the crew member's footlocker must be sent home by freighter. Lt. Malloy (Alan Reed Jr.) sways Lt. St. John (Jack Mullaney) to stow away a cannon home for his sister's antique shop. Meanwhile, Admiral Hornsby (character actor Don Beddoe) suggests to Stoner that the men be taught by the officers of the proceedings of a court martial. Ensign O'Toole (Dean Jones) decides they'd be best served to hold a mock trial. O'Toole is to act as prosecuting attorney, Stoner as defense attorney, and St. John as the defendant. O'Toole reads from a list of court martial offenses and Stoner chooses "transporting or possessing unauthorized firearms". Unknown to them, this is just what a squirming St. John has actually done. Seaman Di Julio (Harvey Lembeck) thinks the trial is real when he is asked to testify against St. John and recounts actual events. Stoner is hilarious as the defense attorney in a funny, clever episode.
