- The program features two performances by Norah Jones, as well as a special dance tribute to Michael Jackson and a look behind the scenes at the contestants' daily routines on the day of a taping.
- A night after half of the remaining couples scored the best marks of the season, with no one receiving any scores lower than a 7, someone still had to go home on Tuesday's "Dancing with the Stars" results show. It would also be packed with a couple of performances by Norah Jones, as well as a dance tribute to the late Michael Jackson. Co-host Samantha Harris' hair was back under control and host Tom Bergeron sent us to the highlights.
To the highlights: Melissa Joan Hart slipped a bit during the Argentine tango, but she insisted afterward, "I was so sexy and sultry, I mean, c'mon!" Judge Carrie Ann Inaba kissed and made up with Aaron Carter; and Mya finally pleased head judge Len Goodman. Natalie Coughlin's paso doble lacked heart and aggression, but she kept smiling. Joanna Krupa tripped up -- literally -- and said "it was like a bad dream."
Michael Irvin's best performance of the season still landed him in the bottom, but he was hoping the fans would keep him in the competition. Louie Vito also had what Len called his best dance. Kelly Osbourne tied her best score but hurt her foot in the process and went off to the hospital with dad Ozzy in the back of the ambulance with her. She said her foot would have to fall off in order to keep her out of the competition. Mark Decascos wowed the judges with his paso and was close enough to "sniff" Mya -- which made his partner Lacey Schwimmer a bit uncomfortable as she said, "You can sniff her -- I'll just watch." Donny Osmond scored a pair of 10s and couldn't believe it.
Tom explained that Kelly's injury was a sprained foot and a contusion, but if she made it through Tuesday's results show she'd be back on the dance floor next week.
Play it again...: Len asked for Donny & Kym to give an encore performance of their Argentine tango, which scored the highest judges' score of any performance this season.
Be our guest: Norah Jones took to the "Dancing" stage to perform her new song, "It's Gonna Be" from her new album, "The Fall". Norah returned later to revisit one of her first hits, "Come Away with Me", off the album of the same name.
To the results: The top three scorers from Monday night hit the stage first. Tom first told Mark & Lacey they were safe. Donny & Kym were also safe. Mya & Dmitry were safe, as well, leading to the least dramatic set of results on the show in recent memory.
A fun little featurette shows viewers what life is like on the day of a show before we got back to more results. Joanna & Derek were in jeopardy. Kelly & Louis were safe. And Aaron & Karina were again in jeopardy.
Michael & Anna were safe. Natalie & Alec were in jeopardy. That meant three previous top scorers were in jeopardy.
Louie & Chelsie were safe. Melissa & Mark were in jeopardy, joining Natalie & Alec, Aaron & Karina, and Joanna & Derek under the red light of potential doom.
Michael Jackson Tribute: Jermaine and LaToya Jackson and other members of the Jackson family lent their thoughts about their brother to a tribute honoring his dance moves. Cheryl Burke said that every dancer to this day can say they've incorporated Michael Jackson moves into their routines. Mark Ballas said he's worn rhinestone socks since he was 3 years old. Karina Smirnoff called Jackson "the father of dance and choreography."
With that, LaToya provided a slightly awkward introduction to a dance tribute that kicked off with a Mark Ballas moonwalk to start "I Want You Back", continued with six of the pros in "Man in the Mirror" and ended with the whole gathering coming together in the middle of the dance floor for the requisite (and totally awesome, nearly tear-inducing) group "Thriller" dance.
Who's going home? With the four couples in jeopardy awaiting their fate, three of whom had led the competition at some point (Joanna in Week 1, Aaron in Week 2, and Melissa in Week 4, Natalie being one point off the lead in Week 3), Tom let Melissa & Mark off the hook. Also safe were Joanna & Derek, leaving Aaron & Karina in the bottom two for the second time in two weeks alongside Natalie & Alec.
Bruno said, "I can't quite believe it," and continued to heap praise on Aaron, noting his energy, consistent competitiveness, focus and ability to get in character. Carrie Ann, who's called Natalie one of her favorites, said she was "very disappointed" to see her in the bottom, remarking on her unusual combination of strength, flexibility and fluidity. Len said he was "heartbroken" for both couples, saying they "definitely don't deserve to be in the bottom two," and mildly chastised the voters for supporting underdogs when "in the end, justice must prevail."
The couple with the lowest combined total "and therefore leaving right now," Tom said... was Natalie & Alec. Natalie cried a bit while lamenting that she may not have done a good enough job showing how much she loved the experience, but she loved it "so much." They danced off to "Ain't That a Shame".
