Tim Wickman and Andy Arkenstein are speech-writers working in the Communications Department of a fictional Parliament House being led by the arrogant, ignorant, often drunk Prime Minister Jim Olson. When Olson gets into a fight at a Canberra pub and drunkenly solicits the company of an escort, it is up to Tim and Andy to compose a statement that will clear the Prime Minister's name and restore some faith in the government. Likewise, when an off-hand comment about the Indonesian President sparks increased tensions between Australia and its neighbor, the writers must formulate a speech to be presented at a reception for the Indonesian delegation to heal the rift. The final twist, however, will have dire consequences for both nations.
