REAL MEN DO REAL THINGS

Warning: Spoilers
This is a story about Brownsville, Brooklyn, NY, far more watchable than "Snow on the Bluff." The film covers a number of violent stories of people with dreams of escaping Brownsville, a community with invisible fences.

The picture makes a statement about the media's influence on violence and drives it home to the point of ad nauseum. Eva Da Diva (Ebony Ross) has her own modest Internet site. She wants to get out of "The Hood." She emulates Lil' Kim and loves rapper Danger (Anthony 'Face' Gibson).

Donte (Jumaane Ford Jr.) is a young boy who is harassed by a group of his peers called "Da Yungunz". He likes violent video games and emulates rapper Danger. He pictures himself killing his tormentors over and over in his mind.

Lymiek Chambers is in this film as Lymiek, a man who has been touched by death but has survived.

Mark (Jamel Staton) is an amateur camera man who shoots videos in "The Hood." His video of a murder is perplexing until we realize that some of this film is in reverse chronological order, while some parts are not. Ouch! His amateur film is part of the movie. What is nice is his ability to hold the camera still while he shoots a scene.

I would have enjoyed the film more had I caught the reverse order thing sooner. My bad as I didn't expect that type of cinematic technique from an African American film. During the opening credits there is actual news broadcasts and film footage about Brownsville as well as commentary of societies exposure to sex and violence. This is a film where black people blame black thug role models for escalating violence in their own community.

PARENTAL GUIDANCE: F-bomb, N-word, rape, no nudity.
