A man is found dead in the countryside and the CBI agents learn that he is Kirby Hines, who was apparently killed in a dispute of land with his family. Meanwhile, Bosco finds that his office has been bugged by Patrick Jane and sends him to prison, despite the protest of Lisbon and her agents. While the agents investigate the case, Patrick contacts them by phone and makes a follow-up of the case. There are many suspects and Patrick escapes from the prison to disclose the killer and the motive.

"Black Gold and Red Blood" is an original episode of "The Mentalist" with Patrick Jane solving a case from the prison. The relationship of Patrick with the dangerous inmates is very funny and the way he lures the killer is hilarious. My vote is nine.

Warning: Spoilers
**SPOILERS** One of my favorite episodes. Yeah, yeah, I know.. they're all pretty much my favorite episodes... I've heard it before. It's interesting watching the interplay between prisoners, and how Jane manipulates their fears; same for one of the guards. One question is "How did Jane get his suit, and transportation from the lockup to the funeral party house?" This takes a bit of postulation.

I say that we've never known what all Patrick Jane has done in his backstory, and I think, though that it's obvious that certain people owe him some big-time dues. Up to and including money; although, he is smart to almost never call those favors in. Ask yourself: If he saved my teenage girl, or any other loved one from a monster, what would I be willing to do to pay him back? Most of us would be happy to help him. As far as breaking the law goes, did the law save your child, or did Patrick? My choice is the obvious: Kimball Cho. I think Jane and Cho are thick as thieves.

The ex-marine dingbat and family have a really sweet fishing cabin; and I gotta wonder where? Since California was in drought at the time. Speaking of favors, Teresa called Bosco down on a favor he owed her about something (unnamed), that MUST have been criminal. The consequence? She'll go public and end both their careers; he caves, but still dislikes and distrusts Patrick. Let's face it: he solved another case for them. Loved it. A 10.
