As a black man, I find this show irrelevant and redundant. An unfunny black man using stereotypes and misinformed points of view in an attempt to be funny and shocking so as to make some phony point. Dave Shapel is far more entertaining and on point than this Charlemagne come lately, BTW, he needs to research the meaning of his own name. You know, European colonization and all. What an embarrassing representation of the black race, I am ashamed.

Charlamagne is part of the problem
cstover-2846822 September 2021
This show and its host are terrible. Just more "white bad, black good" propaganda. Charlemagne is clearly racist against white people and he creates far more division than anything else. There are good and bad people of all races and ethnicities. Black people can be racist too. Charlamagne is proof of that. He's part of the inequality problem, not the solution. Don't bother watching.
So incredibly bad. Save yourself the time.

Seriously cringey. There's no humor. It's like they wanted to make something worse than Trevor Noah.
Mission accomplished.
Only watch this if you have the desire to stunt your mind, but want to avoid the hassles of huffing paint.
I just can't understand who would want to watch this and how it got on the air.

Clap clap clap. Another snide, unintelligent, narcissistic, lapdog show. Unremarkable and recycled cliches. Only people who watch this are those who need to hear their own pathetic notions relayed back to them, so they can clap themselves on the back and say, " I AM SOMEBODY!"
Mayonnaise minds?
lesllieblanck11 December 2021
Racist. I thought the whole idea was to start healing from racism not perpetuating it. If media keep showcasing racism regardless of what race it's against it just keeps evolving and gets worse. Your add about white people have mayonnaise flavored minds is just as bad as saying black people have gravy flavored minds, or whatever term you want to use. Racism goes both ways, except now, now it seems to be ok to be racist as long as you're "African American", but damn if you're a white guy better not say a thing. Wth! If you want equality then make a stand for that! And stop trying to play the victim card from a decade ago.
Tha God's Honest Truth is a quality and much needed program that serves to speak for the ignored - let's just hope that America has the attention span & tolerance

Warning: Spoilers
Decrackerfication is the new word of the day on Chalarmagne Tha God's new Comedy Central late night show Tha God's Honest Truth with Lenard 'Charlamagne' McKelvey. On the first episode that premiered on Sept. 17, the South Carolina native is aggressively unapologetic about ripping off the sordid band-aid that conceals America's tragic history of oppressing Black people.
In a side-by-side analysis, the host compares American slavery and aftermath to that of Germany's Adolf Hitler viciously devised Jewish Holocaust. The half-hour talk show is riddled with the word "cracker" - mentioned 30 times, to be exact - to describe racist bigots and is only balanced by the antithetical label of "good white people," a brief acknowledgement that not all white people are bad.
Segment after segment, Charlamagne schools viewers on how Germany handled the fallout of the Holocaust as it reckoned with its horrible past by expelling Nazis, distributing reparations, and preserving the memory of victims. He goes the extra mile to make his own suggestions on how America can parallel the country's actions and come to terms with its past.
At one point, actress and television personality Amanda Seales made a satirical cameo during a rap segment titled "Decrack Commandments", a teachable moment parodying Notorious B. I. G.'s infamous hip hop classic "Ten Crack Commandments." A dripped up and draped out Seales playfully (and harshly) condemns the cardinal racist sins of white counterparts as she breaks down 10 things they should do to "Decrackerfy" America, including ending cultural appropriation, refraining from saying the "N-word," and mitigating voter suppression.
Charlamagne is so brutally honest and unfiltered that even a Black person may become uncomfortable with the content. Not because it's possibly offensive to white people - moreso because it's partially supported by white people. Knowing that a show is so unapologetically Black but is backed by a white-owned company, such as ViacomCBS, on a predominately white ran network, Comedy Central, would raise any rational person's suspicions. It's a valid concern. But, then again, Comedy Central is the same network that brought us Dave Chapelle's Chappelle's Show.
Another concern, in a world full of real-life issues, many people tend to take the edge off by consuming gossipy shock-value entertainment that doesn't require too much thought or action. As a result, sometimes the more wholesome and informative content is overlooked. The format of the show is presented in such a way that it borders scholarly religion, coming off a bit preachy and overly educational.
For the intellects, Tha God's Honest Truth may be just another opportunity to banter back and forth with over-the-top discourse amongst each other. But, for those on the frontlines of America's trauma, who don't have wealth, prestige, popularity, or even the privilege of education to protect them, Charlamagne's message could possibly be curtailed by its haughty racial overtones and by-the-book history lessons, with some reducing the show to pure propaganda and reverse racism.
In other words, Tha God's Honest Truth is a quality and much needed program that serves to speak for the ignored - let's just hope that America has the attention span and tolerance to continue to watch.
Charlamagne sums up the show with a hard-hitting outro that ties up the loose ends just in case someone tries to gaslight or distort the meaning of his message.
"The white stripes on the flag are supposed to represent purity and innocence, but to Black people and anyone who has studied American history, we know America was built on violence," said Charlamagne. "And to all my GWPs, good white people, we got a lot of things that needs to be decrackerfied, from the financial system to the justice system, to the medical system. So, we need you not just as allies...We need you to be an accomplice. Let's heal this racial divide. If you watch this show and you're madder at me for using the word cracker than you are over all the racist s- that I explained that makes someone a cracker, then guess what, you're probably a cracker a- cracker, too. And that's tha god's honest truth."
Tha God's Honest Truth with Lenard ' Charlamagne' McKelvey airs every Friday at 10 PM PST on Comedy Central and Paramount+

I have to rate it a 10 to balance out the racist review bombers
jchandl-600392 October 2021
Really I would give it a 7 for comedic value. It's still really good, and you learn actual history and how it connects to the present.
Two guesses what all the 1-star reviewers have in common. They're 1)white and 2)racist.
This show just tells the truth about current race relations in america without white washing it. WE needed this.

He ain't the funniest, and some jokes are awkward/fall flat, but some are honestly an absolute riot. And but there's some good & informative segments on here. I remember actually being touched by the mental health episode. And honestly, this show ain't racist, you gotta view all the "cr*cker" comments the same way you would view it on Chappelle Show or South Park. And it's getting better and better every episode.
Mainstream Racism

If he actually believes what he says, he's a blatant racist and part of the problem. If he doesn't believe what he says, and just acting like a racist for a paycheck, then he's an instigator and still part of the problem. Either way this show has zero redeeming qualities.

Is simply trash. Not funny, and not good at all.
How did this show even come about?
Can comedy central please make funny shows again? Please?!
I have been watching this channel for ever, and can't stand how they have shows that area never funny.
South park is the only show to last more than 3 seasons, and this show absolutely sucks.

Nurturing hatred between the races in the USA is the name of the game with this series. Disguised as comedy, but obviously motivated by anger. Promoting racial stereotypes appears to be the objective of McKelvey, executive producer Stephen Colbert and ViacomCBS. Not funny at all, and very sad to see.

I first stumbled on Charlamagne Tha God a while back but was really a fan after seeing him on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. I'm a 70 year old white male and really appreciate his comedic social commentary on what most of us, being white people, who think they aren't racist and refuse to look at history. But I digress. I like his outlook and commentary and he's funny. After all, it is Comedy Central. There are a lot of unfavorable reviews that I don't really understand. I'm recommending this to all my friends.
White People are People Too
mandyorr-6663512 November 2021
I am not sure when ALL white people became a target for hate, but we do not hate. We LOVE, we are not our ancestors, and we can not be judged for their awful choices just because our skin matches theirs! We are independent free thinkers who LOVE our friends, family, and co-workers no matter what. Skin color is a beautiful anomaly making each of us a unique treasure and should not make any of us feel ashamed, no matter what color we are.
Yeah FINALLY!!

Unwatchable racist rhetoric
clevemcclendon30 September 2021
Unwatchable racist rhetoric, I'll try to give it a shot thinking it might actually have some content that was worthy of watching but how far one of the worst things I've ever watched. I'm pretty open minded but all the shows like this would do is spread more hate and racism.

A quick Google search revealed he's had strong allegations of rape, convicted drug dealer as well as fired from multiple radio shows. So in 2021 I guess we're continuing to reward the infamous instead of people with real talent and drive. Sad..
