The family and I were intrigued and excited by the trailer. Aliens? Excellent. The CGI? Looked great. Mood? Looked energetic, weird, scary and funny. So we waited patiently until we could watch the show. And the result...?

My family slowly deflated, drained of life and melting into the couch. What we saw in this first episode was slow, dreary, depressing and largely (but not completely) humorless. Nobody finished it. Walked out before finishing this first episode.

Our main character is quietly depressed, seemingly unable to feel positive emotions. Her life is rather empty, her professional and private life are just programmed motions she's performing. She awakes from a mental blackout on the roof of a tall building, perhaps a suicide attempt she's unaware of only to be harassed for it by her boyfriend. And it feels like an eternity to get to even this point. It's not impossible to start in this mood, but we still need to be sold on it. Sprinkle something more in to keep us engaged.

I think I'm the only one holding out hope for future episodes. If reviews show an uptick, I'll pick it up again and maybe try to invite the family provided there's enough later to convince them to try once more.
