A perfectly cast adaptation that deserves your attention!
tkmce20089 December 2021
Based on Anuja Chauhan's bestselling novel; Those Pricey Thakur Girls, Dil Bekaraar makes for a pretty decent adaptation that is based in 80s' India.

Dil Bekaraar is the story of the five alphabetically named Thakur siblings: Anjini, Binodini, Chandra, Debjani & Eshwari. The series focuses on their lives and the ones around them.

Those Pricey Thakur Girls was an interesting read. Set in the 80s, the book features many references from the era like the Ambassador/Maruti cars, Gold Spot & Campa, DD & the after effects of the Indira Gandhi assassination. Though the series shifts the focus from the assassination to the Bhopal gas tragedy; it does not lose the essence of the source material.

The casting is top notch. Sahher Bambba plays Debjani aka Dabbu; the latest addition to the DeshDarpan (DD) news crew. She is the heart & soul of the series and her performance is outstanding. Her onscreen sisters played by Sukhmani Sadana (A), Anjali Dinesh Anand (B) & Medha Shankar (E) are perfect in their roles as well. Akshay Oberoi, Raj Babbar, Poonam Dhillon, Padmini Kolhapure, Chandrachur Singh & Apeksha Porwal co-star. But it is Padmini's character who steals the show. She has got the best dialogues in the show.

Dil Bekaraar more or less depicts the 80s accurately (which is a relief). It also features one of the best depictions of South Indians onscreen (Sonali Sachdeva). Though I was more satisfied by the assassination storyline from the book.

Dil Bekaraar is light hearted, perfectly castc hilarious (in parts) & makes for an engrossing watch. It is one of the better page to screen adaptations of recent times.

Entertaining but dangerous for impressionable minds
hempsterocks29 November 2021
The story is entertaining but very unrealistic in the sense how the 80s are being setup and the fantasy that people back in the 80s talked or even thought like this. Clearly the woke global Mafia has already infiltrated and perverted Indian culture like they did around the world, but doing this to India in this way is sickening to the stomach. Actually back then people had respect for each other and India was a place where people from all over the world came in search for the meaning of being human. Now its just another pimped out culture to Hollywood perverts and CIA infiltrators which the unknowing mind sees as some type of progress, when its actually taking us back to the stone ages internally and behave like primates. So this is more a message to be vary of these woke messages, and watch them with an open mind that does not get affected by these brainwashing tools.

Great Work but Shaddy nd Biased Political narrative.
samriddhsingh27 November 2021
From story to acting to production depth, its definitely a very engaging and promising show. If this genre is the new trend of show-making then it surely has a wide audience base..kudos..

Everything is great in this long yet short lived 10 episode dramedy, except the forcefully induced political narrative where the biases of the director and psuedo-liberal woke bollywood mindset is obvious..

Would have been a masterpiece if the balanced political and social perspective were taken..

Hopeful and Excited for the next season..

:)

A good and entertaining adaptation
tonabulbul1 December 2021
I found the series to be very charming, sweet and not just another rom com. As an adaptation , it is faithful to the spirit of the novel if not to each and every detail. I only had issue with the editing of the scene transitions and the fashion of 80s. It's just that the look of Debjani and some other characters felt a bit too modern. I might be wrong there but it felt a bit jarring to me. Otherwise enjoyed this one a lot, short and sweet and mostly to the point.

Lovely watch!
nydhii9 December 2021
What a lovely watch !! And you cannot miss the one liners sprinkled throughout the series. It's amazing how nearly 3 and a half decades later so many hard hitting facts about the country remain unchanged, and yet, so much has changed !! And you cannot miss the feel good 80s. No time like the bygone one.

Agenda series in the garb of 80s comedy!
ramit-bhattacharjee29 November 2021
Directed by Habib Faisal this so called 80's comedy series is an attempt to whitewash the transgressions of a section of the society. Lazy screenplay, direction and storyline and unwatchable after a couple of episodes.

After a long time
shabbeermoosvi4 December 2021
After a long time this serial takes into 80's, story and cast are very simple and worth watching, Dabbu is like a fresh air, and Dylan is charming, over a good family drama which can be watch with family apart from some lip kissing scenes, compare to other OTT contents it can be a family Drama.

Journey to the romantic 80's
anupampaulsilco-5506027 November 2021
Watch this series to rewind to the 80's, the simple life and romance with a political angle. The chemistry of the lead cast Akshay and Saher is fascinating. The veteran actors Raj, Poonam and Padmini keeps you hooked to the episodes. A good watch on the weekend.

New And Refreshing
vikasbansal275 March 2023
The plot definitely thickens with this one. They could have named it better. But it is definitely fresh and new. Would recommend for sure. In current times when action, crime, thriller are the ongoing genre for web series, this one is laid back, comic, romantic and with a decent story as well. Must watch.

Got lost after 4 th episode
sameerlodaya28 November 2021
Sameer lodaya

The series is well made and have a good picture of 80s

The story is Inspired from the book those pricey Thakur girls..the series started very well and showed simplicity and chemistry between the Thakur family but after the 4 th episode they took a turn to Bhopal gas conspiracy and political interference etc which was needed..the main subject was about the Thakur girls and family but by adding other unwanted materials they made it uninteresting and prolonged to 10 episodes

Raj Babbar and Poonamji played very well and was nice to see senior actors along with padminiji and her humour..sahher played a very good innocent role and was supported Akshay and her on screen sisters

Would be better if it was in 8 episodes and all about the Thakur girls.

Loose Direction. Doesn't feel like the old Era they claim to potray.
travelwithmestranger13 January 2022
Director is clearly against the 'ache din' concept and a particular political party. If he had focused on direction rather than that, the series would have done well. Ensemble is good but enforcing old songs doesn't help. Dialogues and the way the characters behave is nothing like that in 80s.

Lazy lame writing
mahesh-gupta-nitb28 January 2022
What lame ass writing. Character speaking world like "achche din" , "surgical strike" in 1988 India . Why makers can't stick to topic without making political statement . And on top of that this series is based on a book, at least stick to the book please .

Good story, bad acting and direction n
abhtiw20009 December 2021
A good concept ruined by bad theatrical acting. Most Indian shows, the concept of thetrical acting has taken over, I guess due to the over-dramatized saas-bahu shows from last decade.
