The small details

What an absolute triumph this show has been! This will take you back to the 80s. What a finale! The right mix of everything. Quincy Isiah as Magic has been a revelation. He has knocked the role out of the park. Kareem's casting also has been phenomenal. And I like this version of Jerry West more. Authentic, raw and real. He's so funny here.

Adrien Brody as Pat Riley is also a killer. And man oh man did John C. Reilly put on an exhibition here as Dr Jerry Buss. All the actors are so lovable

This has obviously been a huge treat for me as a Basketball fan. I really hope this show goes on for more seasons after season 2. They have really done a good job setting things up for season 2 and beyond. Jeanie Buss's character arc, Bird Magic's rivalry. Pat becoming the manager; there's just so many stories left to be told

Goldmine of a tv series. HBO does it like no other. This show is hip and cool like no other.

Warning: Spoilers
"Promised Land" episode 10 and the season finale of "Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty" was a final and exciting well done excellent episode of the series a fantastic way to end the season. Here in 1980 the Lakers are facing the Philadelphia 76ers for the NBA title and Magic is facing his boyhood idol in Dr. J, and the big guy Kareem is dominating the series only to hurt his ankle and be finished in game 5. However Magic the man himself picks it up and carries the team closing the series out in game 6 and the "L. A. Lakers" are 1980 NBA champions. Owner Jerry Buss and his investment of spending and buying a basketball team has paid off. Great cast and super season that featured fine acting looking back at the real life rise of a sports franchise this was one of "HBO's" best series in awhile this premiere season has me looking forward to season 2.

Potential disaster turned masterpiece

I remember watching the pilot to this show and thinking the 4th wall breaks were extremely annoying and that the first few episodes were pretty slow. Man I am so glad I stuck with this show, because mid season to the end was absolutely phenomenal. Great cinematography and acting all the way through and the casting is among the best of any show I've seen based on real life events.

Promised Land

The final episode concentrates more on Magic Johnson. With Kareem Abdul-Jabbar injured for the final game.

It leads to Magic Johnson to deliver in the final game and deliver the title.

Jerry Buss reeling from the loss of his mother. He is not out of the woods financially. He also wants to bring his sons into the business.

More interestingly was the Paul Westhead and Pat Riley dynamics. Thye make a good team, they have Jerry's trust. With Kareem out injured. Jack McKinney enters with his own notes for Westhead.

Everyone is pulling together. I still found the final episode anticlimactic for some reason. Maybe because the outcome was known and I think it was just lost in too many characters. Then Jerry's other children show up, people we really know little about.

Overall I liked Winning Lines and the story will continue, maybe why I thought the last two episodes seem to tail off.
