Funny AND Meaningful!
Popsies15 August 2010
If you have ever chased your dream... and felt the pressure fighting back against you... you will LOVE this movie! Just saw it at the Feel Good Film Festival and it was well received by the entire audience!! It was very funny and also well written, acted and the cinematography was gorgeous. All around very well done in every aspect. The message throughout was heartfelt and not even just in the words... it came through in the stillness of the film as well. In many ways this film could have gone distasteful, as it involves "mature movies". Yet it never did. It poked fun in all the right places and remained classy. It was interesting to see how "sex sells" in a movie and never once seeing nudity or it becoming gratuitous. Very clever.

Well written, thoughtful and funny!

This film is awesome. The writing is tight and clever. It is a hilarious look into the world of film making. I highly recommend it. Highly!!!!

The main actors work extremely well together. It is obvious that a ton of time went into the production, preparation and rehearsals of the ensemble.

The direction is smart and beautifully executed. The film takes a few daring twists that are both unexpected and wonderfully funny. The characters are clear and also wonderfully funny and endearing. The film takes a clear stance on following your dreams and how hard that can be sometimes. The director communicates with interview style soliloquy as well as beautifully shot scenes.

Again, highly recommended. Can't wait to see what will come from this team in the future.

wonderful, endearing film with a lot of bite!

This is a terrific film with a completely fresh and unusual view of the world of "moneywood" where ideas are only used when they fit the long established tedious "formula" for economic success. this well written script brings a team of documenterians into the world of the mature film. What could be lower? It gets a little racy, but the humor and comedic lines give style and a new and refreshing face to the viewers experience. It's the battle for whats good and new, versus what's old and known. the protagonists try to make more than just another adult film...they are shooting for something bigger, better, inspiring through cinematic creativity. At every turn they are thwarted by a production company that long ago gave up the new, for a "formula movie" enforced by lawyers. The whole process is dutifully recorded by the documentary film team. It's funny, it's inspiring. Really a good film. We all become insiders. Eagles in the Chicken Coop could become the bible for all future film makers!

A deck of aces up its sleeve!
redstone-717 October 2011
Hollywood has long been cinematically pitched as the impenetrable Machine, the Wall which cannot be scaled or breached. It's Ken Kesey's 'Combine' in his book "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest". It's the inescapable Hollywood that screenwriter Joe Gillis dashes himself against in "Sunset Boulevard".

The premise of Eagles in the Chicken Coop is making it in Hollywood. The pleasant surprise, for me, is how freshly it portrays basic concepts of human struggle, adversity and ingenuity. You won't have to grasp for the ultimate Grail of A-List status in Tinsel Town to empathize; you've faced vexing obstacles when trying to bring your own dreams or goals to fruition. The artistry in presenting these timeless truths with such easy familiarity is why you'll relate to the film from the get-go.

Between chuckles and cheers, hopefully you'll appreciate the excellent performances, the sharpness and pace of the story and the beautiful realism of the locations just as I did. See it – then watch it again to gather in the missed gems your first time through.

Funny, endearing and totally realistic in its fantasy.

Warning: Spoilers
Following the colloquialism, "it's funny 'cause its true," one finds a driving plot point to this film. Not found is the overdone, tried and used formulaic Hollywood prescription for comedy. No, "Eagles" writer Brent Florence has taken a much more difficult approach to comedy. And I think a more difficult approach to success. And he has found it.

This film does not spit in the face of Hollywood and the film business, but rather offers an offhand compliment. The kind that reveals itself to be far more cutting than a direct insult. By offering his team and himself up for scrutiny within a storyline that pits them as the underdogs railing against the injustices of corporate greed and the loss of craft within the industry, Florence has placed himself squarely in the line of fire. A brave thing.

I suspect much of this "mockumentary's" grit has been fertilized in the real world experiences of those involved with the project.

What I find interesting is that, (as of this post) IMDb has rated the film at 1.9, whilst the vast majority of reviews and votes put the film at 9 and above. (Perhaps a practical joke from IMDb, a guffaw to offer praise to this heartwarming film?) I digress. Ignore the weightiness of my words. This film can be taken and enjoyed at a surface level like all the rest. It fits in a neat little wrapper, if you want it to. But the true glory of this film is that it can be enjoyed on a great many levels, and the deeper you go, the more "art"awaits you.

I would give this film a 10, but I fear IMDb would use that against them. So 9 it is.

A team of documentary filmmakers set out to film the making of a late night "adult" film- hilarious and unexpected story follows,

Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed this film. It starts out with a very original concept and provides an inside look into an industry we don't see a lot about in films today. Watching this movie felt like watching what might happen if Christopher Guest, Wes Anderson and Judd Apatow all got together and made a film. Although this is not a glossy, "studio" film by any means, the raw, unpolished style of filming and acting suits it and the film is richer because of it. Especially poignant are the scenes in which we get to see the actual making of the "adult film" featured within the film. It's when things start to fall apart for the film makers in the movie that this film really finds its footing and is at its best. It's rare that a film can actually deliver a message about humanity and still manage to be extremely entertaining. If you want to watch a movie that is both touching and funny with interesting and unique characters, I highly recommend this film- you wont be disappointed.

A Beautiful Movie
stephderosier29 October 2011
It feels very strange to describe any film about the Hollywood Porn (I mean Adult Entertainment) industry as heartwarming. But there was such a sweet, tenderness to the characters traveling through the gritty, unforgiving landscape of low budget film making in search of their creative dream! I was on the verge of crying most of the time. Except when I was guiltily laughing. I fell in love with the two main characters - their innocence and insistence - and felt personally linked to their journey from title to credits.

Brilliantly written and elegantly performed. The characters were both funny and endearing - even the nasty ones I'd like to toss out the window. A great ensemble cast in the spirit of "A Mighty Wind","Best in Show" and "Little Miss Sunshine".

Ridiculously funny and inspiring for all artists!
Guitarnatalie7 November 2011
I had the opportunity to watch an early cut of this film when I met the director at Sundance. I was blown away by that cut and this final version is even better! It's SO funny but what I love even more is the humanity and the way you really feel for these characters. As a musician, I don't know much about the film industry, especially the adult film industry, but it was fascinating, HILARIOUS and inspiring to see how this crew dealt with the crazy situation they were in. A must see film for all artists and creative people following their dreams! I was curious the if something like this situation had actually happened to the people who made the film because their connection and frustration in their acting with the process was so real and honest. It was also beautifully shot and edited and the music complements it really well. I can't wait to see more from the director, cast and crew of Eagles!!!
