The scene where Shelby (Gretta Hambrook) gives Jack (Matt Moore) an envelope with money inside is actually based on a true event. When writer/director/producer George A. Johnson was going through financially difficult times, he was approached by a young girl named Shelby, who had raised over $100, and gave it to Johnson so that his family "could have a good Christmas". The envelope used in this scene is the actual envelope that Shelby gave to Johnson, and if you look closely, you will notice that the envelope says "Johnson Family".
Screenwriter George A. Johnson wrote the script for "Homeless For The Holidays" in just 3 weeks after going through a similar situation with his family. The entire film, from concept to theatrical release, was completed in just over 9 months.
At the end of the movie the Baker family was having a meal in an awesome family restaurant in Auburn, Indiana. Auburn House of Pancakes. Sadly it closed it's doors in 2018.
