Possibly the best one yet!
KCW1129 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the best What If...? Season 2 episodes.

Rivaling Hela and the Ten Rings.

I loved how we saw loads of old MCU characters such as Samuel L Jackson's Nick Fury, Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch, Chris Hemsworth's Thor, Sebastian Stan's Bucky etc. It was also nice how Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch and Chris Hemsworth's Thor interacted more since they rarely did in the main MCU timeline.

The fight scenes were fantastic and the effects were also pretty good. However I do think that What If is focusing a lot on Hayley Atwell's Captain Carter and want to see more of other characters.

You should definitely watch this episode, once if not twice.

Overall, loved it!

Looking forward for What If... Strange Supreme intervened?

Not the strongest episode, but still good
GregTheStopSign9530 December 2023
First things first, I haven't read much of the 1602 universe in the comics, so I have no idea how much of it they've borrowed for this. Although I DO know that Stark is some kind of powerful, popular, respected knight in the books, where he's not that here. Anyway...

The writers have done really well in showing how much Captain Carter is like Captain America in the 616 universe. It just further cements that they're a pretty iconic MCU couple.

Much like the previous 2 episodes, though, it really would have been nice if we could have got a bit more of this, though? Surely with streaming having done away with the need to rely on adverts and designated time slots, they could run these episodes longer than 20ish minutes when necessary? By that same token, though, there was a little bit too much 'filler' here, but that could also have been used better with more time for the story to breathe.

Like I said, though, it's not the strongest episode this season, but it's still (mostly) a good one, if a little too short and rushed.

Feels like OLD TIMES

Wow, just wow! I loved this episode so much! Best of the season! I just love how this brought tons of marvel characters into one setting, and It was fantastic!

These past episodes of season 2 have been mid to worse. The what if... isn't interesting, and is not well executed. But I love how this episode just tied so many different variations of characters into one setting that we know and love and have them interact with each other in a 1602 setting!

It was really nice seeing super serum Captain Carter and Captain America talk to each other. And especially Loki and Thor! Awesome interactions!

This is somewhere in my top 5 of the series! I want more of this!

The best episode
vip_deb29 December 2023
The best episode so far. I had so much fun. I want a live action movie like this episode hahah. All characters were very good. I think the last one is going to be even better. I mean only by the title sounds epic "What If... Strange Supreme Intervened?" Doctor Strange is my favorite MCU caracter. He and Iron man are the best.

I didn't like the first 6 episodes. All were so boring. The one with Hela was good. I was happy that Cate voiced Hela.

I can't wait to see the last one, tomorrow. It's going to be very epic ending of the season. Hope the new one is better than this one. See you next time.

Renaissance Woman

We're again back to the main thrusting storyline of this season of "What If", this time a continuation from the previous Captain Carter episode, when she was dragged to the past. Specifically, we now know it's the year 1602 where a range of familiar faces are also around.

In 1602, rifts in time and space are appearing and dragging people presumably to their deaths. Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell) is trying to save people but when Queen Hela is taken, her brother Thor (Chris Hemsworth) becomes king and blames Carter for the loss, ordering her arrest. She escapes and, again talking to The Watcher (Jeffrey Wright) she refuses to be taken home, even as he explains that the collapse of a Universe is a natural and inevitable thing. Deciding that the power of the Royal sceptre is key to saving this world, Carter turns to a merry band of men to steal it for her.

It's a strange mix of Marvel history here and vague 1600 information - the inspiration is Neil Gaiman's Marvel 1602 series, though it's not a straight adaptation though, like the Marvel Zombie's of last season, it does seem to be the one storyline most suitable to becoming a spin off. I have to say that, in general, this seasons overarching story hasn't grabbed me as much as he first seasons did - though some of the individual episodes have been brilliant.

Again, it looks good, the vocal performances are either the actor themselves or a relatively good soundalike. I just feel like perhaps this episode isn't as fun as it should be, as it's hamstrung by servicing the wider plot.

Written by a 5-year-old.
Goldrobinzon30 December 2023
This episode was the laziest writing I've ever seen. "Hey, the season is almost over, how do we end it well? Let's stuff all of the old and the new marvel heroes into one episode, add a different setting just so it feels fresh, bring in most of the original cast, and throw in some flat jokes and fighting. People will eat it up!" Not a single character made sense to be in the 1600s. There was absolutely zero effort to connect the characters' backstories and unique powers with the plot of the episode. Nothing happening there made any sense at all. No wonder that universe was dying. The entire plot was just one big hole. I literally felt like I was watching a five-year-old play with a bunch of marvel characters. "This would look exciting, let it be this way!" I guess they spent so much money to get all the big names in this episode that they only had enough funding left to have someone's toddler write the script. The whole season was pretty boring and massively predictable, but this was just a new low.

An insult to the original
creechuur-3648731 December 2023
Why did they bother setting this in 1602 if they weren't going to even try to adapt the original Neil Gaiman series? Gaiman's 1602 was a smart limited series that remixed characters from the Marvel comics with an historically accurate setting. I doubt the writers of this episode even read the wiki entry for the original 1602 comics, much less glanced at the series itself.

Disney took one of the best What If?-style stories and made a low brow, badly written platform for the central MCU characters. It might as well have been set at a Renaissance faire in Ohio. Series 2 of this show has been pretty bad, but as a fan of Gaiman's 1602 this was gross.

lazy overall

Did I miss a few episodes or what?

This season wasn,'t good at all.... I usually blame the writing, but this time, it's not even just that.

The whole season was so boring!

There wasn't any epic moment nor any WOW factor.

The finale building throughout the season was obvious and without any surprise, but contrary to the first season, it was really bad. Each character was introduced in a Hulk way (ie smash the door), without any subtility nor depth. Strange supreme from season 1 had a very deep backstory, and you would usually end up rooting for him and feeling sorry for him.

In season 2, none of the characters are shining or appealing (except maybe for Noir Nebula, but because you could hear her thoughts).

This episode was lacking so much... Some characters appeared here without any explanation. At first, I really had to check if I had missed a few episodes in between.

I'm really feeling bad for Marvel, after The Marvels debacle, its futur really doesn't seem promising...

Anything with Peggy....don't expect much
vinodrajendran-7963030 December 2023
Been following since season one. I've come to realised al the weak episodes are the ones with peggy in it. The only one that remotely felt unique was episode 6 and 7. The rest just felt like a filler episode. Did not enjoy anything that involved peggy and it has nothing to do with strong female character, note i liked episode 6 &7 which are strong female character. Nonetheless, What if will be cancelled after the completion of season 2. Its been a borefest and the overuse of peggy carter really ruins the experience. Why cant they use Dr. Strange instead to conclude the story arch of from season 1?

Good but with some flaws
georgelarcy29 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The concept for this episode is actually interesting, having it be that a bunch of different heroes that you know from the MCU in 1602 as we see how each character handles being in that time such as Steve being a Robin Hood like figure called "Rogers Hood" it was also nice to Wanda back after being gone after multiverse of madness but that's my first issue in that Wanda barely appears which to me seems like an issue as she is referred to as The Scarlet Witch we could've seen more of a Scarlet Witch who isn't evil. Another issue I had was that as far as I understood from the episode it's never said how they know about Captain Carter in the first place. I also didn't like the relationship with Steve Rogers and Carter because at this point it's just boring especially when peggy said they can't ever be happy in any universe. It felt like what they were doing with Strange and Christine in Multiverse of madness saying they can't be together but in that movie its more effective as we're told and we see that Strange isn't with Christine even in What if... episode 4, when he is with Christine she dies and Strange. However we know from endgame they do end up together when Steve goes back in time at the end. I'm also going to say it the whole "who is the person they're looking for" aspect is gone the second Carter and Steve interact because you know that it's going to be him because she appears in the next episode so Steve has to go and it's going to be dramatic so Steve is your best bet. The ending was nice though with Strange Supreme back again because as he says "Just thought you could use a friend" leading onto episode 9 called What if Strange supreme intervened which I am very excited for. Overall this episode was alright but it had a lot of flaws. I liked it but I don't think it was as good as people say it is.
