New season, new location
dylio131 October 2022
The basic storyline is the same as the first season. In the opening scene we discover a guest (or possibly guests) of the White Lotus has (have) been murdered. We are then brought back to a week before when the wealthy guests are arriving. The big difference is we are at the White Lotus Sicily in the Sicilian town of Taormina. The locals all seem to be speaking standard Italian as opposed to Sicilian. The guests are all new characters with one exception. Tanya from season one (the woman with her mother's ashes) arrives with the other guests. She is meeting her husband there who is the man she hooked up with in season one. Not surprisingly they are in what seems to be a very unhealthy relationship. The other guests are two young couples. The men are longtime friends but the women seem to hate each other. The other main guest are Michael Imperioli who is traveling with his father and son. Overall the show maintains the same feel as season 1. The ocean and Mount Edna provide the breathtaking views that Hawaii did in the first season. It will take more episodes to decide if the characters are engaging or just caricatures of the rich. I could have done without revisiting the Tanya character.

The White Lotus season 2
solojere31 October 2022
When I heard they were making a second season of The White Lotus, I wasn't sure there would be a need for it, as season one told a complete story. However, will season started strong, and I am interested in seeing where it goes. This time the show follows a group at a White Lotus Italy where people died, similar to season 1's setup. I'm still feeling out the characters as this is one of those shows you have to watch a couple of episodes to get a feel of the characters. With that said, so far, Aubrey Plaza has stolen the show. She has really turned into a great actor in the past few years, and I hope she has a more significant part moving forward.

Brilliant start to a new season
Amadeus0131 October 2022
The series gets off to a rocking start, introducing nearly all new characters (apart from Jennifer Coolidge and her now husband Jon Gries). The tension is palpable. I felt genuinely uncomfortable watching the first episode. The undercurrent of anger, pettiness, foreshadowing, and idiocy. Jennifer Coolidge is as ridiculous as in Series 1, or perhaps more so. Apparently oblivious to her husbands dislike of her, he appears to really despise her.

The setting in Italy is beautiful and the introduction of local language into the dialogues works very well. The Italian character seem brilliant and very well cast. As are the rest. I am very much looking forward to it and I hope that the ending will be better than season 1.

Better Than Ever!
Oscarjbunting1 November 2022
I enjoyed this episode more than the 1st seasons opening - everything feels more refined and cohesive, with an ensemble of quirky, interesting and well written characters with compelling motives - all framed beautifully in picturesque Sicily.

Although I enjoyed it, the 1st season to me felt slightly disjointed at times, almost like it didn't quite know where it was going next, with all these elements working against each other.

Already this season feels more intentional, like all of the moving parts of this story have been intricately thought-out and a satisfying conclusion is coming.

I also have to mention the music that accompanies this show, arguably the thing that ties everything together and makes the show work so damn well, the legendary Cristobal Tapia de Veer reprises his role as composer, bringing the unique, and bizarrely bleak yet catchy scoring with him.

By the end of the 1st episode I was intrigued, enthralled and left wanting more. Excited to see where this show goes.

Amazing entrance for the second season!!!
oleksytomek4 November 2022
We can argubly say that this season wasn't nessecery? Of course but whatsoever it's marvelous atmosphere, cringe humor and lots of beginnings to the new plots like for example relation this young pair of people, hooker's and going on further. The big part of the show takes in Italy which can say to us that this is a deep drama of various men and women.

The riches ones and others are starting to sticking eachother but that doesn't mean there fighting of something like that. Aubrey Plaza is stealing this show and play fabulous role. Her performance shines. Nicely done 1 episode.

Waiting with excitement for the next one.

The music is excellent - pity the action does not match it!
wilkpat31 October 2022
Glossy item with a range of half bored characters looking for sex on holiday. It was difficult to work out why some of them went on this holiday - especially the American citizens...surely they could get it nearer home?

For me it did not work - first time I have watched it, as the first series failed to include sub-titles. Have not checked if it did take place on Sicily as the setup looked to be more American in style. The music was outstanding: as the action was so predicable I spent my viewing time listening to the clever changes of music which matched the film action precisely.

I doubt if I am entertained enough to bother with episode 2 .

Love the series but . . .
tmstokes-121 November 2022
I know that Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) is loved by the critics. I know that many fans find her hilarious. I know that she won an Emmy for the role. But I want to kill her. Call me callous but Tanya is absolutely the most annoying character I think i have ever seen. Neurotic, needy, selfish, inconsiderate, sour, . . . I run out of words. Nonetheless I watch the show because it's otherwise so good. I originally quit Season 1 in the middle of episode 2 because it didn't seem to be going anywhere. The favorable critical hoopla led me back to it and I ended up loving it, especially the loathsome Cameron. Season 2 is even better, largely due to Aubrey Plaza, Haley Lu Richardson (the delightful Portia), and the engaging Beatrice Grannò and Simona Tabasco as the two local Italian girls.

Just like the first season this 1st episode of the second season is super super funny and cringy.

Very witty writing and dialogues; I find the slow burning low profile humour is absolutely amazing.

Loving the whole Italian and Sicilian atmosphere and vibe it's a bit exotic but not too much neither.

Nooo, not the boring Tanya again!
gii-star29 November 2022
Why the only boring and annoying character from season 1 is in season 2??! I am talking about Tanya. I could not stand her character in season one and hoped to never see her again(nothing personal for the actress, only her role). It is hard to watch her, she is slow, dull, uninteresting, not funny, always seems lost and confused. They killed the one only interesting character in season one... Hopefully the Italian hotel manager will be interesting enough to watch.

Season one actually was not interesting either, but I dont know why I watched it. And I dont know why I am watching season two 😀..

Disappointing season 2 against the magnificent season 1
poceaadrian114 December 2022
Yeah, everything is in the title of my review. Season 2 is not even in the same league as season 1. The beginning, with the subsequent flashback, doesn't have any of the ominous tension that resides in the opening scene of season 1. She is just happy to be in Italy and doesn't want to leave and she bumps into a floating body( actually multiple). The characters lack depth, are not likeable. Nothing to relate to, no anchor of passion. In season one it was Armond, here nobody comes even close. The family in season one was likeable, multi layered, warm, humane. Here the trio of males of three ages is just gross and unrelateable. Michael Imperioli wife sounds totally unrealistic at the phone, screaming on the top of her lungs and dropping the f bomb any other word. The two couples are one less likeable than the other, they lack depth and anything to make us care about any of them. Sorry, Mike White, you are awesomely talented but you just rushed this in cashing in the success of the phenomenal season 1.

All thanks to the amazingly funny Jennifer Coolidge
gharbinour4 November 2022
Very funny first episode. The sex scene between Tanya and Greg was hilarious. Jennifer Coolidge cracks me up, she's amazingly funny, the scene with her assistant at the restaurant was also memorable. It's enough to see her to know you'll have a good laugh.

I was afraid of the Italian cast, italian actors are not the greatest, but they were all pretty convincing, especially Sabrina Impacciatore, she made me laugh more than a few times.

The plot is very simplistic for now, we'll have to wait a little more to know if the season is worthy, but the tone of the first season is still here, it's fun and full of dark humour. Also the sicilian location is an interesting choice. I'm curious to see what will happen next.

Ciao
lassegalsgaard31 July 2023
After a great first season, it was interesting to see what Mike White was going to cook up for the show in its sophomore year. Originally conceived as a limited series, HBO got him to come back to do another season, and I was excited to see if he could find a way to keep it fresh, but without treating the same steps that he did last time. It's a whole new cast - with the exception of Jennifer Coolidge and Jon Gries - and new hotel. And it's already off to a promising start and it's changing up the game and adding more big social themes.

It continues on the idea of introducing a huge ensemble cast and slowly bringing their stories together by bringing them together and it seems like it's continuing with the great pace of the first season. And the new cast is already off to a swinging start with a lot of great names being added to the roster. F. Murray Abraham and Meghann Fahy are already standing out with great representations of the two sides that this show is trying to tackle. It's still going on with the class satire and that is as funny as it has ever been (although one can't help but feel very bad for Haley Lu Richardson's Portia), but it's also delving into a pool of gender issues, showing how the effect of the many movements that sprung from the #MeToo-movement impacts rich people. An interesting idea and something that will definitely keep the show going on a fresh course for this second season, if they are able to continue to balance the two. The style is very much intact, and while the music has been subtly changed to fit its Italian setting, it still sounds amazing and shows a lot of creativity on behalf of composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer. Mike White has used most of his career to write in the comedy field, but with this show, he's showing that knows how to compose drama brilliantly. The season is off to an amazing and refreshing start, although some things may feel a bit too similar to the first season.

"Ciao" is a great beginning and White enhances his own job by introducing another big social theme into the mix, so far with great results. The new cast is great and fits into this world flawlessly, and the production value is off the charts as usual with the subtle changes showing off the talent behind.

Very enjoyable series!!!
li090442617 January 2023
The series "The White Lotus - season 2" likewise season 1 is very well written, with an amazing assembly cast and with parallel stories that hold the viewer's attention. Writer and director Mike White this time around, creates his White Lotus resort in beautiful Taormina, Italy and he couldn't have chosen a more perfect culture to place his strange characters in. A mixture of Italian tradition, mafia, romance, comedy, family, sexuality, with American self-centeredness.

Not only does Jennifer Jennifer Coolidge shine enormously again as Tania, but also Adam DiMarco as Albie, Haley Lu Richardson as Portia, Simona Tabasco as Lucia, Will Sharpe as Ethan, Aubrey Plaza as Harper, Beatrice Grannò as Mia, Sabrina Impacciatore as Valentina, Leo Woodall as Jack. Each one of them was perfect in characterizing their characters.

Season two in Sicily
safenoe30 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Sure, season one of The White Lotus was compelling, with its Hawaiian island feel, but I kind of felt the atmosphere was "restrictive" because it wasn't like anyone could get off the island easily enough, and also this kind of limited the team of supporting actors. So here we get greater scope (and even the sunshine is more vivid than in season one ironically), with season two opening in San Domenico Palace, Taormina, Sicily, Italy. Anyway, Jennifer Coolidge returns as as Tanya McQuoid-Hunt, with Jon Gries as Greg Hunt (Tanya's husband) in tow.

Anyway, this episode is a solid start to season two.

and then...?
JustHavingALook30 December 2022
Usually season 2 first episode of a previous successful series disappoints and this is no exception. Unfortunately seems like a typical cow milking money grabbing operation.

Going to Sicily is fairly smart though: premium location, the everlasting allure of "italian vacation" and realistic connections for an italian-american family.

But: Too many flat characters to make it possible for me to care about what are they up to, their challenges , their goals.

Acting... well some of them are trying too hard (see the 2 hookers and the assistant) while the actress playing the hotel manager is spot on.

It is painfully obvious that some "foreshadowing" event is there to hint something will happen later in the series (most likely it won't) eg the moor's head legend.

Wouldn't recommend.

Huge fan of Season 1, Season 2 ep 1 not so much
gangafilmreview31 October 2022
I came with a lot of eager anticipation after loving season 1. The reviews for season 2 were so positive too, but upon watching episode 1 of season 2, I must say, I am feeling personally quite let down.

With the exception of some sparkly moments performed by Jennifer Coolidge and the hotel manager, I found the rest of the acting a bit unnatural and the scenarios felt very much written and performed on the nose. It was too obvious how we were supposed to feel for and judge the characters. Predictable.

Season 1 character development and performances in contrast made you come at it with a very open mind. The characters were more empathically crafted and performed, so much so that it felt like a discovery process over time...I had been 100% invested in how they'd resolve their hilariously awkward dilemmas.

I'm actually not sure I'll finish Season 2 and regret renewing my HBO max for this new season :-\

Not going to give up hope just yet...
cinemagick3 November 2022
I found the characters cliched and underdeveloped. Quite honestly, it feels like some old dude discovered TikTok over the summer and is trying to cram in trendy speaking patterns and linguistics into what is meant to be an organic a piece of art/entertainment. It feels forced or fake to me. What made season one great was the natural way the characters and plot unfolded. Season two has all the hallmarks of a sequel. The characters are not as subtle and likable as season one. I'm sure I'll get hate for this but it's my honest feeling as a fan. The popularity of the show may have made this season predictable and bloated. I can almost hear the Hollywood agents rushing to book their best clients on the show for maximal clout. I'm not giving up hope just yet. If for nothing else, I will keep watching for Jennifer Coolidge and her top tier comedic character work.

not yet sure about S2
nasloranger2 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
For the most part I enjoyed S1, except for how stupid Kai was to even think of B&E the room for the jewelry... the whole scene with Paula trying to convince him to do it was just exactly what I would expect a couple of very ignorant, immature kids to say - it was painful to watch... if they had any brains at all they would know that you get pennies on the dollar when trying to sell - or fence - jewelry!

AND I definitely could have done without the overly explicit gay sex scene between Armond and Dylan!

Now, as for S2: so far, there are no new characters I care about - they are all annoying in one way or another... Bert, the "dirty old man", makes my skin crawl...

I realize one or more of these people will not make it out alive by the end of the series, and at this point I really don't care who it is - well maybe except for Portia and Albie...

there is no word to describe how I feel about the reappearance of Tonya and Greg - now married... she is still a needy, psycho - and he's a class-A creep... it doesn't take a genius to know his motive for being with her is $$$...

the thing that bothered me the most about this first episode is how Tonya treated Portia!

Telling her she needed her, but to stay in her room so Greg wouldn't know she was still at the resort! Seriously, she expected her to spend an entire week in Sicily in her room - not even coming out to eat in the dining room?!?

And when Tonya did see her in the dining room she made a hideous face and mouthed the words, "GO TO YOUR ROOM!" at that point if I had been Portia, I would have marched right up to their table and said, "Go f-- yourself - I"m here! Deal with it!" but of course, that wouldn't work for what, I am sure, is the upcoming "situation" between Portia and Albie...

so, all that said, I'm not sure if I will watch this whole thing through - the first episode was such a turn-off for me... but maybe curiosity will get the best of me, because I want to know who dies...
