Another Netflix comedy, this time from the pits of the isekai genre
Tasteless_Critic_Takes25 August 2022
This isn't the first show where I've sat there and thought "why is nobody actually talking about this?!" and it won't be the last, but seriously; why is no one actually mentioning this great show?

Uncle from another world (the English Title) is a uniquely comedic and very relatable TV show, and the modern touch as well as reference to Japanese pop culture makes it a great show.

I think the best way I can describe this is an Un-Isekai. It is not set in a fantasy world, so don't expect fantasy world building, but there is magic and whatnot in the show for fantasy fanatics. The voice of the main guy is also Dio's voice actor, so that makes it hilarious as well.

Reference to things like SEGA, Evangelion, and popular culture is hilarious from a more 80s/90s side, but the origin from a webcomic also makes this reference some dumb but funny modern stuff, like VTubers, Youtube and Tsunderes (AKA, all you sad people's lives) which make this show feel relevant and nostalgic consecutively.

I enjoy the gags, and while this isn't special or amazingly life changing, I will watch the episode each week, and I will, if the show carries on as it's started, thoroughly enjoy it!

This is a pretty dry season, so if you're looking for something to watch besides Classroom of the Elite S2 this is definitely a good candidate. Give it a watch!

Hilarious and Fun
nebula002420 October 2022
Finding this series was completely unexpected and I'm glad I did! Isekai Ojisan (Uncle From Another World) is a unique twist on the Isekai genre. Instead of someone being transported from our world to a fantasy world and watching their journey unfold, we instead start at the very end, after they are transported back again. As the story unfolds, we get to see Ojisan (Uncle) become acclimatized to our world again after being gone for so long. With the help of his nephew, Takafumi, we find out what happened to Ojisan in the other world as he tells his story (memories) through a magical projection. We find out very quickly he wasn't exactly the hero we're used to seeing, was constantly discriminated against, and is embarrassingly socially inept. As the synopsis explains, Ojisan may have come back to our world, but gets to keep his magical powers. This is actually handled quite well, adds to the story, and never goes over the top.

Personally, I would recommend this series, especially if you're a fan of Isekai genre. Can't wait to see more!

Typical anime shenanigans
MrSweatyNapkins23 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Good anime that would be great if it weren't for the sexually suggestive situations that are typical of anime and the genre. I forced myself to continue watching this because I only like the uncle. Unfortunately I won't finish the Netflix series beyond episode seven.

For me this is the uncle people wish they had. He confides in his nephew, Takafumi, who takes an interest in his stories. He doesn't cower away from adjusting to being back in his own world after a 17 year coma. Things have drastically changed for him and he still smiles. Ojisan is adaptable and doesn't dismiss things because they are new or seem difficult. He doesn't treat people like garbage because they are different even though he wasn't treated kindly. I like that uncle is himself all the time.

Hilarious show

One of if not the funniest anime I've seen. Excellent story with great characters and character-building.

It honestly boggles my mind that it has a mere 7.5 rating here. The cultural references to things such as video games, anime, and the internet is awesome.

I fell in love with Uncle
mrshawnrenfroe29 March 2023
At first I wasn't sure about the anime it definitely wasn't what I expected going in. However I found him so incredibly relatable being an ugly gamer in my mid 30s 😅. Jokes aside the pacing only starts slow for the first half of episode 1 it sets the stage really fast rapidly introducing a lot of the main characters early on and the the story picks up so much momentum I ended up staying up extra late just so I could steam roll all of season 1. They did such a good job with uncles character being obsessed with a bygone era that I grew up in and demonstrating his disconnect with events in the current era I really can't wait to see how the story unfolds even further. There's so many questions left swirling around in my head after finishing it that I can only show my complete support in hopes that this new studio is able to push out season 2 as fast as possoble.

A Fresh take on isekai genre
masteraniketkumarsingh8 January 2023
The story is a reverse isekai with dark comedy ( which i found really funny ). It's a very good show, i really want all the production issues to end so that i can watch the next episode.

It is filled with all the 90s references and old video games references are also there which are very accurately shown.

The animation is nice, and the pacing of episodes is phenomenal.

The characters are interesting in their our right and all of them are very entartaining to watch.

It sometimes gets very dark, but only if you think deeply about it.

If you want to watch something new or something fresh you can give this a watch. You 100% won't regret it.

A masterpiece
retraigo25 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
We've all seen high school students get isekai'd by Truck-kun, get overpowered, and then save the world.

But what about the original world? What happens there in the meantime? Is the hero really dead in the original world? Many stories come with many concepts (like that story where the girl writes a letter to her family so that they know she's isekai'd).

Turns out our uncle went into coma in the original world when he got isekai'd and woke up from coma after saving the other world.

It is a story that revolves around a nerd who reacts to all the changes that happened in the years he was in isekai.

This is a far better plot than a lot of isekai out there. A new concept that doesn't involve any crazy fights or something. Just an uncle randomly showing his isekai moments to his nephew.

Wouldnt recommend

Serial comedy anime is enjoyable to watch . But I won ' t watch it because I know this kind of series well . First it starts with humor , then tragic funny scenes are shared . After people are brought to a consistency slowly , they spoil people's mental health with a heavy tragedy and give a final . Of course , I don't know what will happen at the end, but my feelings say that and I started to feel sad while watching it , so I will leave it in the 6th episode.

Also , did not like a bit facial expressions everyone is making ! Hope they find different comedy material . And something funnier . . .

Was very shocked how much I actually liked it
thomascooper-7246311 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
In the beginning of the series like episode 1 to 2 maybe 3 when they did the replays back to when he was in the other world I didn't like how they had started off being just blurry and not actually showing it like it was in the other world but we were looking at it with them that I didn't really like but once they changed it to where we were actually looking at it in a much clearer video while they were watching it then it got so much better but even from the beginning it was funny and extremely well made like it looks really good too the only thing I kept thinking my head though while watching it is why they don't have like a spin-off or something or why they didn't just make his life in the other world the anime.

Give this a shot! It's refreshing to watch!
kfitzsimons-7839718 April 2023
I absolutely loved this! Laughed so hard I cried. I can't say how much I didn't know I needed to watch this anime and am dying for a second season. The humour is mixed in with dark references that made my heart delight.

It's something many gamers can relate to (being left out, being socially awkward, having gaming or anime references only a certain few know, not picking up social queues.) it was a delight.

Especially how the hero wasn't exactly the shining light you usually get in anime's (handsome, amazing at combat, good with the ladies, good with his words.)

Uncle was just quite loveable and he's worth getting to know by watching it. Give him a shot and watch this so I can get my season 2 will you :)

A silly anime that is a bit over the top
rich-1216911 April 2023
So I was intrigued by the premise..Which is very much like lit rpg books. But i was immediately thrown off by the...stupid humor. After 2 episodes I was like geez..is the only comedy going to be that the uncle is a complete moron.. And I turned it off.

But then i went back and started watching the rest of the season...and yes it is still stupid. But its also dark and twisted. And the humor is really growing on me.

It even kinda also reminds of Off to Be the Wizard books. Which have issues of a different kind.

Anyways the uncle is probably clearly gay..but im liking it so far.

I have to keep going..ok...well I think it was funny how they referenced attack on titan.

Exactly my kind of anime!
wesrk13 March 2024
This is just brilliant fun through and through. Uncle is an awesome character, the stories are fun and filled with comedy. It's a completely lighthearted with some elements of harem anime as uncle does have a following of 3 girls in the other world.

I can't get into too many serious anime's like AoT, I like them but they require more investment into understanding the complex story lines. So I love these anime's, easily bingeable. It's in line with anime's like One Punch Man, The way of the Househusband, The Devil is a part timer. Very easy to watch, no need to invest too much grey matter to enjoy it. Superb!

Anime from Another World
naroiden1 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So in 2000 a 17 old gamer kid was hit by a truck while he was going to buy a video game and therefore he was in a coma for 17 years. While he was in a coma he went to another world of classic fantasy world that has elves, magic and all the fantasy world cliches from old video games. Nothing new or interesting about it.

All this anime is about a person who got old but left behind in time so much he is still SEGA fanboi who considers it was the golden age of video gaming when SEGA still developed a video game console. He also uses some ancient cell phone just because it's cool for him even though it cannot even make a call, he is that old fashioned. Anime tries to show love for SEGA video game consoles and video games but in reality all it does is making SEGA, its fanbois, even gamers in general look bad. In that regard since they use SEGA's and its consoles' name without censoring or changing the name it indicates they were approved by SEGA and it also means SEGA was okay to make themselves look bad as in their fans are the garbage of society and gamers are weird people. That's what the anime is actually about when it's not busy with unrealistically perverted characters, especially women and that's all about it.

Story progression is all over the place. Until 6th episode nothing particularly happens and the same thing happens over and over again whether it's the same humor, same conversations and even the same story points, not to mention same reactions of people to same situations over and over again several times in each episode. It shows what happened, then what happened later and what happened before all this and what happened again and what happened later in detail and so on and imagine this cycle continues until 6th episode. Clearly whoever wrote the story had no idea what to wrote but wrote it as they wanted to add stuff but to get back into the story to progress in their own way they wanted to trigger the same events with the same triggers. In 6th episode anime start to show potential and after that story starts to progress but still nothing interesting actually happens. So after you watched 1st episode you can skip to 6th episode and you wouldn't miss anything important as 6th episode is kinda summary of the episodes between 1-6.

During the whole anime there are like 10 people but the whole anime revolves around 3 main people and they get boring so fast, especially the kid who expects his uncle to be a pervert as much as him and the anime tries to make being a pervert how everyone should be when anime is not busy making SEGA, its products and gamers look bad. Whoever wrote the story probably believes just because a girl looked at him she is in love with him and it's stupid to don't believe so. And because of how badly the characters and situations are written any kid who watches and likes it would start to have bad opinions about life, especially thinking gamers are equal to garbage people, it's a must thing to be a pervert as women just wait for you to "get in" so you have to rape them as it's what they want, any people who wears glasses is ugly especially when they have long hair. Not to mention how women characters are out of virgin male fantasy.

Humor and graphical style-wise it's clearly One Punch Man wannabe but they couldn't manage to actually make it funny. In fact there is no single thing to smile for anything in the anime.

Nothing in the anime is satisfying as the story didn't progress much and story-wise it seems like there has to be lots of stuff to happen for an ending as if they are releasing One Piece but even 13 episodes were too much for this anime. It would be better as a movie.

In short it's an anime from another world because it's not like any visual media I watched. Everything is so amateurish and they didn't care what people like, how to develop a visual media for the audience and all so they did their own thing and it was a mess. I only watched it just because a friend recommended it just because it's about SEGA video game consoles so I promised I'll watch it so we can talk about it and I kept watching it for the references. I don't think you would like it if you are not a fan of the genre, SEGA video game consoles and its games. But even then this anime made me consider burning my SEGA Genesis along with its games I didn't bother slamdunk into the nearest garbage bin. I stopped buying SEGA games just because how greedy they are years ago anyway. Now liking SEGA is a sign of you are a garbage person as it's how SEGA wants to be clearly LOL.
