Magnolia Network opened its doors on Jan. 5 to an audience of about 3 million viewers, powered by the linear launch of “Fixer Upper: Welcome Home,” the renovation series hosted by Magnolia chiefs Chip and Joanna Gaines.
Magnolia Network’s first night of primetime programming garnered about 3 million viewers in Nielsen’s L3 ratings. The lifestyle and how-to channel marks the return to TV for the Gaines, who have partnered with Discovery in the streaming and linear launch of the curated Magnolia Network as a streaming label on Discovery Plus and the linear channel as a rebrand of Discovery’s erstwhile DIY channel.
The linear debut of “Fixer Upper: Welcome Home” on Jan. 5 brought in about 1.7 million viewers, a strong showing for an unscripted series. The series marks the return to episodic TV for the Gaines, who run a home renovation and retail empire from their home in Waco, Texas. The pair...

Setbacks happen all the time with renovations and just weeks into their TV launch, the Magnolia Network found itself facing quite the snarl. In early January, multiple homeowners who participated in the series Home Work—which premiered on the network Jan. 7—came forward to accuse Candis and Andy Meredith of renovations that fell short of expectations. In interviews with Today, three pairs spoke about their alleged experiences with the Merediths in 2019, including couple Vienna and Robert Goates, who said they began working with the Merediths after responding to a casting call for Home Work. "They said they would be able to do more with our budget than what we would...

A day after the hosts of reality renovation show Home Work took to Instagram to tearfully defend themselves about allegations of shoddy work and overcharging – which led to their show being taken off the Magnolia Network – comes news that the show will return to television.
People magazine broke the story of the unexpected turnaround in fortunes for the show and its hosts, Candis and Andy Meredith.
“Magnolia Network is dedicated to sharing hopeful and genuine stories. In doing that, we strive to meet people with compassion and to cautiously approach difficult moments with honest understanding,” Magnolia’s president Allison Page said in a statement.
“After speaking with homeowners as well as Candis and Andy Meredith regarding renovation projects for Home Work, and hearing a mix of both positive and negative experiences, we do not believe there was ill or malicious intent. Our commitment now is to provide appropriate resolutions for...

Magnolia Network has decided to return “Home Work” to its lineup after initially pulling the show due to complaints made by homeowners about the quality of work done by the contractors who host the unscripted series.
The probe by Magnolia, the joint venture of Discovery and lifestyle mavens Chip and Joanna Gaines, found no “ill or malicious intent” involved in the complaints and the show will begin airing again in a few weeks after the network helps resolve those complaints. “Home Work” is hosted by Utah-based home renovators Andy and Candis Meredith.

Fixer Upper stars Chip and Joanna Gaines have joined forces with Discovery for the linear launch of the Magnolia Network, which is replacing the DIY Network on January 5, 2022 at 9 Pm Est. The launch kicks off with Fixer Upper: Welcome Home, the first show in a slate of original series planned to air on the network. Other series scheduled include Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines, Restoration Road with Clint Harp, Home Work, The Lost Kitchen, Family Dinner, The Johnnyswim Show, Super Dad, and the entire five-season Fixer Upper library. Existing DIY Network fan-favorites will also join the Magnolia roster, including new seasons of Maine Cabin Masters, Barnwood Builders, Restoring Galveston, and Bargain Mansions. Magnolia Network, Discovery’s joint venture with Chip and Joanna Gaines, will light up as a linear pay-tv network on January 5, 2022.
The channel’s debut — a rare event in an era of streaming fixation and a shrinking pay-tv bundle, will come in the form of a rebrand of Discovery’s existing DIY Network. The first show to air on Magnolia will be Fixer Upper: Welcome Home, which returns the Gaineses to the hosting role that helped make them stars of TV and branded merchandise.
The launch is among Discovery’s many significant moves in 2021. At the start of the year, the company launched direct-to-consumer streaming service Discovery+, which includes select Magnolia programming. The company has also entered into an agreement to combine with WarnerMedia in a new entity to be spun out from AT&T. The companies expect regulatory approval of the transaction by mid-2022.

As media companies throw more of their firepower into new streaming-video behemoths, some of them still maintain a fondness for good ol’ TV networks.
Discovery and home-renovation gurus Chip and Joanna Gaines are moving ahead with the planned launch of their Magnolia Network, which will replace cable’s DIY on January 5, 2022 at 9 p.m. eastern. The outlet’s first offering will be “Fixer Upper: Welcome Home.”
Magnolia launched earlier this year on the Discovery Plus streaming service and a separate, dedicated Magnolia app, with more than 150 hours of unscripted programming devoted to home, design and gardening, among other household topics. But a linear cable network remains key to the endeavor, which aims to take the Gaines — best known for their “Fixer Upper” series on HGTV — and put them at the center of a home-arts programming universe in much the same way others tried to do with Martha Stewart and other domestic-arts gurus.
