Riteish Deshmukh & Tamannaah Bhatia's Crossed Rom-Com Had No Plan B To Survive From Plan A's Mediocrity.
SAMTHEBESTEST1 October 2022
Plan A Plan B (2022) : Movie Review -

Shashanka Ghosh's Plan A Plan B brings together Riteish Deshmukh and Tamanna Bhatia as a lead pair for the first time on screen. Rom-Com is one of the most loved and simplest genres for Bollywood filmmakers, but sadly, we have seen almost every theory that could have existed in this romantic comedy world. Ghosh's comedy has a fresh pair, a fresh subject, and a fresh feel to it, but lacks the fresh storytelling. The film plays so safe that it forgets to add something of its own and rather makes you feel a little bored. However, it never falls too deep and never becomes a headache, so you at least pass the time with a relaxed smile on your face.

Kosty Chougule (Riteish Deshmukh) is a family lawyer, oops, a divorce lawyer, and an expert one, who is a happy dividing couple as per their own wishes. Nirali (Tamannaah Bhatia) is a matchmaker who runs a matrimonial service and, by chance, has her office next to Kosty. These two often fight with each other, not just because their professions are crossed, but also because their thoughts on love, marriage, and relationships differ. After a while, they both start getting along together as they learn several facts about themselves and the issues they had with their personal relationships. As you can guess, there is a fight, there is love, then there is a little misunderstanding, and then you have a happy ending.

Written by Rajat Arora, Plan A Plan B has plan A working right, but doesn't have any plan B to survive the regular typicality. The screenplay still has enough engaging moments to keep you interested in the film, and it is not that long either. For about 105 minutes, there were no such Dell moments except for a few songs. As we know, relationships are a very complicated subject and everyone has a different thought process for it, so what is there to give to different sets of minds with one story? That's a big challenge and almost an impossible job. Still, Arora has done a fairly decent job. Plan A Plan B may look rough while it wants to become tough, which didn't happen.

The performance of Riteish Deshmukh is pleasant. It's a good break for him as he plays a very vibrant guy, with his own intensity, and then there is this mix of romance and comedy in the film's genre. When was the last time we saw him in a straight-up rom-com (aside from those adult comedies)? Tamannaah Bhatia is such a pleasure to the eyes that have got bored watching other scenery. She looks stunning and plays a very relatable role, in contrast to anything cheap and downmarket she did in Babli Bouncer. Watch out for her facial expressions and romantic scenes with Riteish, and do not miss the intimate dance. In the supporting roles, Kusha Kapila, Poonam Dhillon, Bidita Bag, Prithviraj Sarnaik, Heli Vyas, and Raghav Agarwal are okay to decent.

Plan A Plan B had a scope for good music because it fell into the romantic comedy genre, which is very suitable for it. But the music isn't really that exciting and does not create any romantic vibes, even with those video songs. Watching Riteish dance his heart out and Tamannaah add glam appeal may save the dance numbers for you, but still, it has been done much better. The technical aspects, such as background score, cinematography, and editing, are fine. Director Shashanka Ghosh's storytelling lacks crispness and new flavours. However, Plan A Plan B isn't a big let down. It has some good moments that will entertain you, and some that might just teach you some lessons about relationships (if you are having any with your partner). Overall, a decent, light-hearted watch for Netflix viewers who often get to watch dark projects only.

RATING - 5/10*

Simple Light-Hearted Time Pass Movie
dmbzyqnj5 October 2022
Songs - Really bad (You can forward them in Netflix)

The story is nice n straightforward, you know what to expect. The banter is nice to watch. Best part is no unnecessary frills in the movie.

Kusha Kapila - Bad acting Tamanna Bhatia n Riteish Deahmukh - Decent Poonam Dhillon - Slightly over.

It tends to get a little slow towards the end but then you can fast forward things in Netflix 😂 The movie doesn't have much of a rewatch value, but it's definitely a one time watch. RD was nice in the movie n TB looked nice as well. The chemistry towards the end seemed a bit "held back". I don't remember any of the dialogues, so nothing worth remembering maybe.

A poorly made romcom
madanmarwah8 October 2022
This movie is supposed to be a romcom but there is hardly any rom or com in it. It suffers from an indifferent screenplay, some lackluster and cheesy dialogue, few ridiculous situations and generally below par acting. As strong headed characters both Riteish Deshmukh and Tamannah Bhatia apparently do not have any understanding and hence the scenes lack warmth. The movie is a damp squib to put it mildly and some portions of the film are difficult to sit through. Riteish is a divorce lawyer and Tamannah is a family counselor and both are at loggerheads professionally and personally. Their scenes of professional rivalry shown are crude, childish and cringe worthy and the comedy falls flat. Some scenes lack logic and conviction. A scene in which the volunteers are blindfolded and asked to sniff out compatible partners using their sense of smell is outrageously bad. The jokes are either crude or bland or both. Both Riteish and Tamannah are disappointing big time in poorly written roles which are not convincing at all. Poonam Dhillon does what she can in a comic role as Tamannah's mother and does not impress. The lesson for the director is that you can't make a good film on weak written work. Overall it is a disappointment.

If you are free during the day, watch something else

'Ameer logon ki ameeron wali problems' is the most apt review anyone can give this movie.

There was so much potential this movie had for a good drama, but everything was wasted. The dialogues were cringe, there was no comedy, and you wouldn't feel any connection or sympathy with any character. The ending was nonsensical and completely predictable.

There was just nothing in here except frame after frame of idiocy. All the other characters except the leads (which were unidimensional) appeared to be idiots without an iota of brain cells. All in all, a pathetic movie with no story. If Bollywood does not come out of its 'love' obsession in every story, it will be facing a serious problem. This was supposed to be a light movie, which it is, but there is just nothing worth watching in it. Woke garbage which a woke director who I think is not a human at all (might be a donkey) is trying to shove down audience's throats.

Consider yourself warned!

Sorry no plans here

This movie been named as plan A plan B but to tell you here there are no plans

The movie starts with tamannaah as match maker in a rickshaw for some last minute goof up and there after comes Riteish as a divorce lawyer in a court room and thus the movie starts with no great plans ahead simply they both are fighting on their thoughts

A silly simple love story has been shown without any emotions and dull songs..a lot of humour was expected as Riteish and Khusha was there but I kept waiting and the movie ended on no great note

Only good in the movie was the colours and aesthetics which made the movie looked fresh.

Very boring ! Couldn't bear to watch the remaining 1hr
Biswas_1 October 2022
The trailer itself was not impressive at all but i started watching this film because of Riteish Deshmukh after so long in lead. I was mighty disappointed.

The film has absolutely no story at all. It's all about boring "unfunny" conversations and after 1 hr i just did not understand where the film is heading to and wherever it is going, it is taking the most boring route ever. As i said, there are few jokes here and there and none are funny .

Imagine a film being just 100 mins long and still you are using half the time trying to desperately get invested in it but can't . Lots of sex and woke modern day words used that don't make any sense.

I do not know what happens in the next 1 hr of the film. I do not want to know also .

Tamannah Bhatia cannot act and after a trash Babli bouncer last week, she yet again fails in this one trying to be little funny sour kinda lady . Ritesh tries hard to be funny but can't help save the film.

Shashanka Ghosh 's last film i watched was Veere Di wedding starring Kareena Kapoor in 2018 and by God it was so boring , still i managed to watch 80% of it but not full and yet again this film plan a plan b could not watch full, this time only 50%.

Overall, this isn't even a time pass film. If you are looking for quality content, even then this is not the film for you. Strictly avoid.

Light weight beautiful Romatic Movie
htcviju3 October 2022
The Movie is chill and romantic. There is good Spend over the weekend watching this movie. Particularly who likes Romantic movies, they should go for it.

The best part of director Shashanka Ghosh's 'Plan A Plan B' is the vibe that these protagonists share.

Riteish Deshmukh is at his best form portraying the cynical character Kosty in measured tones. Even when he and his behaviour seem strange, it's easy to root for him and his comedic timing. Tamannaah Bhatia successfully brings the vulnerability and fierceness of Nirali to the fore. Their mutual hatred adds curiosity to their characters. But what we don't see is the lead couple's crackling chemistry. Individually, they do shine in their respective acts, but nothing feels natural when they develop feelings for each other.

Can these actors learn acting?
taalzz1 October 2022
Tamanna Bhatia should do something else. Open up a parlour or may be a boutique (if she can't mess up things there as well). I mean zero chemistry, zero emotions. It seems like she was forcefully wearing western dresses. She can't even carry them. Forcefully were wearing short dresses and all.

Predictable story from the beginning.

Not sure who spent the money on such a movie. Initially I thought Riteish Deshmukh would have spent money from his own pocket to make this movie. But I guess I was wrong, there were THREE producers. Haha, yes Three! Now all of them would be in debt because of this. May be Netflix should not allow movies from them again.

Make a plan to watch this one.
yourz_sanju6 October 2022
A story about how two co-sharing workplace individuals with past of failed relationships fall in love despite they have very less in common and their rivalry turns into love saga.

Netflix is a platform for such story to be portrayed and come to audience around the world. Though climax is bit predictable, I personally enjoy every time Ritesh Deshmuch plays serious roles than his traditional comedy comfort zone. Tamanna is good as well. Her accent is bit heavy in hindi but her acting is top notch.

I recommend this movie to those who are couples and the one who are planning to be one. It's more of relatable story for them.

Awful ....!!
rehmankhilji3 October 2022
Dont know what the director, the producers even NETFLIX was thinking about this movie.

Dull and super Dull. Riteish Deshmukh, a flop actor of (even) multi stared movies, too brave of makers for giving him a leading role, but he talent lies else where.

He is a fine actor but he is not understanding his abilities and how to make best of it.

Alright, you have not build yourself like other actors, not build up six packs so whats the point going shirtless. You are not good with dancing, except for jumping in a group song, so whats the point being solo in one.

Tamannaah Bhatia, the Bahubali movie star, what a disaster after that. Watched two movies of her back to back and believe me, she is giving such a bad performance, as if she doesnt care. Well, do justice dont watch her in this movie and simply dont care too.

It is a complete horror and a complete waste of time watching this.

Avoid.

Thoroughly enjoyed

Very well made rom com - I love these kind of relationship based films/web series - Brilliant performance of Ritesh and Tamannah makes it a delightful watch, especially for those who loves these type of relationship based films. Loved all the characters - Poonam Dhillon, Kusha Kapila and even the baby Kabir. Will watch it again.

There are some amazing scenes and dialogues - Loved the chemistry of the 2 leading characters - Shashanka Ghosh, the Director has presented a simple story in a beautiful way - Will be eager to watch his next movie.

It was nice to see Ritesh in a completely different type of role and he has nailed it to perfection and Tamannah was brilliant as well.

Cute and sweet, an Indian movie for Kdrama lovers
poulomihari2 October 2022
The direction was a bit chunky which is why the acting sometimes looked like overacting. Tamannah, Ritesh and Kusha were quite good when it came to their performance. But other actors ahem Poonam Dhillon ahem were so bad, their parts were a distraction. It is quite difficult to achieve the full rom-com joy or passion withing 2-3 hours but the story did progress quite organically and their attraction felt believable. Don't expect much skinship, I mean these are Indian actors and I am pretty sure Ritesh is very faithful to his wife. There is a kissing scene but you could tell they are not actually kissing, rather hiding it out. However I am thankful to the director to have churn out at least something for Indian audience. Here rom-com always means chasing a super rich manic pixie dream girl and giving her a "sanskar dose". So seeing a posh almost Kdramaish opposite attracts bubbly rom com is a fun change. It also works as a soft power for the nation- changing the image from our Gareeb desh to a rather chic urban upper-middle class lifestyle. I know the Hindi speaking audience might find it a little over the nose but in other languages and for people who need subtitles, they might quite actually enjoy it. Its complete OTT content, and I am happy for it. It had a feel of Masaba Masaba in it, and I dig those sort of web content. The direction could have been better, with more cameras and shots. The editing could have been better. The second half of the movie was quite good compared to the first half. The banter and all, although brilliantly written, often felt forced. I won't blame the actors, they were doing their best. This is probably a bad direction.

However points for trying. If the audience seems receptive of such stuff, they will make more and bring in more actors, which is a win for us. So I liked it. Certainly didn't hate it. Good film. One time watch.

I wish I could give reviews in minus. Don't watch! You will waste your precious time
ashvinijadhao3 October 2022
Even though i like Ritesh and Tamannah as actors and as individual personalities, I can't believe they chose to actually shoot this disaster script.

Even after 20 minutes, I was not bothered about Nirali or Kosty. To kickstart their love-hate relationship, the makers made Nirali set up her office next to Kosty's. However, everything that follows between the two is unconvincing and unfunny. Their arguments and taunts/sarcastic remarks had no effect.

The problem with Plan A Plan B is the characters have no appeal. As a viewer, I had no emotional connection with either of them. Even though their professions are established, we seldom see them working. Just like their petty fights appear unrealistic, their romance seems shallow. How can you make two people fall in love without having any buildup? There is no chemistry. I didn't have one good reason to root for the couple on screen.

Tamannaah Bhatia and Riteish Deshmukh give an underwhelming performance, mainly because of the weak script and bland characters. At times, it seemed like Tamannaah was plainly reading the dialogues. Poonam Dhillon and Kusha Kapila add nothing to the story.

Again I would say. Please don't waste your precious time on this piece.

2+ hours of torturing audience
zcijfbrvx2 October 2022
This movie is neither romance, nor comedy, it's purely two hours of torturing the audience with a stupid story. None of the actors can act. This story has been repeated more than 100 times in previous films.

Every Hindi movie nowadays sucks and I don't know why Netflix still makes these. This will neither profits the top line, neither the bottom. Music sucks, choreography sucks. Half of the movie is about celebrating a 60 year olds birthday. Are you serious??? Who the hell in the world thinks people will watch this sh$tshow. Save yourself sometime and do not watch this, you are better off watching a cartoon or any B+ foreign film.

UNBEARABLE
indianature6 October 2022
Started watching the new Bollywood movie PlanA Plan B in original Hindi audio with English subtitles on Primevideo streaming.

The acting was artificial and stilted right from the beginning of the film.

The plot may have been interesting but the overall production was really poor especially the acting was so artificial and so stilted that it became unbearable and we gave up after 30 - 40 minutes.

Briefly Ritesh Deshmukh is a divorce specialist lawyer with an office in a swanky BKC building and Tamannah Bhatia is a marriage broker who also takes an office in the same building. The two of them are constantly irritated by each other but of course some underlying romance is in the offing. If you can bear to watch, then watch the film to see how the narration plays out.

Not even worth 1/10.

Just bad
ameyaispandit4 October 2022
I can't believe this pairing in the first place. A seasoned actor like Tamannah with a third grade actor like Riteish. I guess Netflix has made up their mind to give work to all actors who are basically jobless.

Starting from casting till the making of the movie they should have adopted either of the plans but looks like they ended up with the plan in their title because it's definitely not there in the movie.

Netflix still has a long way to go in making quality content for Indian viewers and they really should prioritise quality over quantity else they are definitely lose their biggest market.

A nice little movie
itsilana22 March 2024
Watched the film with my husband on the weekend, and we both quite enjoyed it. We do not usually watch Indian films, and were pleasantly surprised. The film was not overly long, with only a few songs/dances and a modern story. The film was funny and sweet, the actors not bad. I liked the colours and the esthetics, all the details. The Indian setting was interesting, though the characters are very modern and western. It's a positive film, with a happy ending. The ending of course is predictable, but it's standard for romcoms, so not an issue. In short - a way better film than average Netflix stuff.

not so entertaining.
MrAyushGarg30 September 2022
This movie captures all that is wrong with Hindi movies!! Horrible acting all around!! Pathetic plot... goes all over the place, but dose not reach anywhere!! Cheesy dialog... hopeless casting!! Bollywood has always been poor in terms of everything. This proved everything in just one movie. No innovative ideas, no self creation, no effects, no good actors. Bollywood keeps betraying people by cheating. If the movies can't be remade better than the original, then these pathetic Bollywood should stop making remakes. If anyone is thinking to watch this movie, then they should better watch the original movie.

An excellent feel-good movie
alisonshanpricearts1 October 2022
In a screen world of tension and darkness this is a colourful jewel. As a theatre director of multicultural actors I enjoyed plot, characters, actors and especially the stunning final dance sequence set in an invited dance performance between the warring couple. The director is to be commended on casting. It contained fun, dillema, heartbreak, gender power play and family concern for the protagonists. The strong relationship between the two leads was visible from beginning to end. I particularly liked the cameo roles played by friends and family, mother particularly. Thoroughly recommended to watch.

Something was happening... happening... and... nothing!
bj-bijaya3 October 2022
This movie had a good premise. So much could have been done with this even though the end was painfully obvious. But there was a hope that at least some salvaging elements could be there in the plot, but no, there isn't. Tammanah disappointed with two movies this season: Bubly Bouncer and now this.

Deshmukh was bad. I was completely uninterested with his role and was almost reluctant to play his part. Any other actor could have shown better conviction. He looks and acts outdated. All other supporting cast are cold, frigid - with no verticals.

The worst is the screenplay. The dialogues are corny, something painfully cringy and the set-up of the scenes are either childish or outlandish. This movie was a big waste of time.

The only decent thing about the movie was the music. Even though a better mixing could have served the movie better, it is the only commendable part of the movie. The costumes and choice for mise-en-scene deserve a little applause. But that's it! Nothing else is even worth a mention.

Plan A watch the movie Plan B Don't Watch the Movie
skmenon19931 October 2022
Directed by Shashanka Ghosh, Penned by Rajat Arora. Premiered on Netflix from September 30th. . Starring Ritesh Deshmukh & Tamannaah Bhatia in lead role.

A story of a match macher and a divorce lawyer. Sounds interesting & it feels more interesting when we see both of them working in the same workspace so that a couple who finds a perfect match eventually doesn't have to fetch a divorce lawyer when its just opposite to the match makers office.

Tamannaah playing the character of Nirali who runs the match making business & Ritesh as Kaustubh Chougule a divorce lawyer just takes us through the changing trends of marriage concept.

Implanting a back story in each one of the lead characters life, it shows us again that a love lost person can find a love again which we saw in the movie "Raja Rani "directed by Atlee or a person handling his/her divorce or a divorced person should not feel bad if they come across a person who is compatible to them. Life is not over by one failed relationship or by a broken marriage

Overall, a topic which we often now seeing in our society taken in a different way of storytelling.

Tamannah & Ritesh had done an ok kind of performance.

Riteish and Tamannaah's Lack of Chemistry is the Hindrance of this Netflix Rom-Com !!!
cs_rahul_prasad17 November 2022
Plan A Plan B features two pole-apart professionals leading similar personal lives. On the one hand, we have a cynical divorce lawyer named Kaustubh Chougale, aka Kosty (Riteish Deshmukh), who has OCD. He is also going through a marital separation, which he doesn't want to. On the other hand, we have a matchmaker named Nirali Vora (Tamannaah Bhatia) and a marriage counsellor who believe that a match is definitely made in heaven. But her "soulmate" was taken away from her and she's battling the heartbreak too.

Because their offices share a wall, they have become neighbours ! Thus begins the battle between a believer in love and the one who fights for the separation of couples. It's definitely not a novel concept, as we have seen something quite similar in Jodi Breakers, where the agenda of the lead actors is the same, but love takes charge and messes things up. But here, the bond between them is based on fights where they just can't stand each other since their eyes meet. And we wonder why ! No reason has been established as to why they both get on each other's nerves. Having different ideologies about romantic relationships doesn't justify them being unable to stand under the roof.

But then, we see Tamannaah's onscreen mother, played by veteran actor Poonam Dhillon, hinting that they do have chemistry, which makes them attracted towards each other. Well, not once did I feel that they had chemistry, let alone attraction. That becomes the biggest drawback of the film; there's nothing which makes us root for the onscreen duo no matter how much they put in to show some mutual attraction. It so happens that intimate scenes between Riteish and Tamannaah look uncomfortable to watch and look forced.

There are some favourable moments in the film which don't feature the lead actors together. Tamannaah gets her best scenes with Poonam Dhillon, Kusha Kapila, and also the child actor. Despite the fact that Riteish also shines in his sequences, the script doesn't help boost his character arc.

As for performances, Riteish Deshmukh, as mentioned, tries to bring some intensity and seriousness to his character. However, the actor's efforts go in vain. When it comes to rom-coms, the actor is good enough in comedy parts but lacks everything in romance. Tamannaah Bhatia's best sequence in the film is when she drunk-dials Kosty and sets him straight. It's straight from Jab We Met. Oh wait, she happened to be the lead in its Tamil remake, Kanden Kadhalai.

The script is penned by Rajat Aroraa. The writer fails to create an impression in his efforts to make a rom-com for this generation. The casual and loud approach of the characters looks excruciating after a point in time. Even Shashanka Ghosh, who has directed rom-coms namely Khoobsurat and Veere Di Wedding, once more tries to bring something bizarre, but it doesn't work this time.

The only part which makes the film more believable is Poonam Dhillon's mentioning of botox and being unapologetic about it. The veteran actor brings a comical depth to the film, which is laughable in some parts. Plan A Plan B has one more element that sets both the characters apart: dance ! Kosty loves it, and Nirali believes she can't dance. When the dance-off happens, all we could do is just stare with a deadpan face as it doesn't seem enjoyable at all.

The songs in the film by Bann Chakraborty and Saurabh Das are decent enough, but I'm not sure if they will make it into your playlist.

Overall, Plan A Plan B could be yet another forgettable Netflix film which tries too hard to be a romantic comedy with lead actors who have no chemistry between them.

Not a lot of planning went into the making of this.
Perspicuity16 March 2023
While watching this film, I kept wondering as to what exactly am I watching, what is the point of this film? In this masterpiece, two individuals of opposite ideologies fight with each other and then end up falling for each other but before that happens you are made to endure some random unfunny sequences that are as pointless as Jon Snow's character arc in Game of Thrones. I wonder what motivates filmmakers to make films like these, perhaps a mockumentary of that might just be more interesting to watch. It's mind boggling to imagine the amount of money people have to waste!

Tamannaah Bhatia is an amazingly beautiful woman but somehow she manages to find her way into the most atrocious Hindi films. It's quite unfortunate that the Hindi film industry hasn't accepted her with open arms even after so many years, but by working in a film like 'Plan A Plan B' she is not making it easy for herself. Stylized romantic comedies with a simple storyline can be a lot of fun to watch but 'Plan A Plan B' comes across as an extremely superficial film with no sense of direction because its creator was too lazy to give it one. The movie fails to engage you at any point of time, doesn't make you care for it's lead pair, has no comedy at all and even the songs are as uninspiring as the screenplay.
