- Sylvia helps out on an archaeological dig at the Castello di Monterosa, and finds a skeleton buried in a shallow grave. The locals are convinced it's that of a teenage girl who disappeared twenty-five years ago, and that she was murdered by a recluse who still lives nearby. Riva thinks so too, but Sylvia is less sure. Her investigation uncovers a story of dark secrets, domestic abuse, and heroic sacrifice. The village welcomes back three lost women - one living, one dead, and one represented in a precious Renaissance portrait - and Sylvia's relationship with Riva crosses the boundary from professional to personal.
- While construction workers Salvatore and Luca Zampa noisily fix the ruin Fox bought, she bumps into not really befriended study acquaintance Mallory Bell, who considers digging for the oldest Italian Templar chapel in the late marchese's neglected castle the chance of her lifetime, hence is furious when Volpe causes it to be shut down after they find a human hand, which is female, not medieval. All Panicale assumes it's 25 years-missing Ornella Pannacci and resume the public hatred against recluse farmer Carlo Sabatini, whom everyone assumes her murderer. Her blood is found in his old truck, but the corpse is much older. Despite her domineering eldest brother Giuseppe Pannacci forbidding bullied middle brother Andrea to cooperate, it's found their abusive late father was violent enough to make a prime suspect. Mail never delivered to Carlo proves a trail to a surprise cast addition, and it all ties in with Renaissance art robbed by the Nazis and local collaborators, while celebrated partisans are found tainted.—KGF Vissers
