Decent start

Its a very good start for the seasonCould it be better? Yes and no but its the first episode nonetheless...Its More like a ladder connecting the previous season with our new season but still enjoyable as always...I really like the Mexican arc and everyone involve in that cause its something new and im intrigued of whats happen next and what surprises the season will have...Mark my words Chozen will be the absolute highlight of the season it was a very smart choice to involve him on the series as a standard character...I give 8 and not 9 cause as i said it was more than a filler but im really overhyped of whats coming next.

Whoah whoah whoah! Wasn't expecting that ending!!!

Enjoying Johnny and Robby as a team, it's a refreshing change of pace, and it's great to see Johnny at least being somewhat honest about his obligations for the first time. I don't expect Johnny to nail it through out the season, and conflict is inevitable, but it actually feels like some real progress can be made with them.

We're in season 5 and somehow the driving scenes look worse than ever lol.

Very first scene with Daniel-san and Sam and I was already rolling my eyes. On the other hand though, freaking CHOZEN

Miguel: smart enough to travel to Mexico by himself. Not smart enough not to assume every guy named Hector in Mexico is his dad. Seriously, he did not ask any of the Hectors for their last name, just keeps stalking any Hector he finds. Wtf.

The end of episode 1 without context would've be a cool twist.

Great Season Opener

Warning: Spoilers
Sets up the main conflict and premise of the season, introduces Chozen and Hector, as well as some new storylines. Holds up on second rewatch, amazing premiere.

Spoilers: Loved how they are finally moving forward plotlines like the relationship with Robby and Johnny, feels very satisfying to watch. Loved the Daniel and Chozen scenes, especially the "no he has to be careful to this guy" or something like that. I also liked how Terry got a bit more backstory with the reveal of Chozen knowing about his sensei and recognising the moves, it gives more answers as to how terry changed between the Vietnam war flashbacks and karate kid 3. Miguel's story was good as well. As usual I couldn't care less about Sam's story or ark.

8/10.

So far so much better than the last season, the weakest of all, with the mainline on boring side characters, and this episode puts the main people up front, setting up Daniel and Chozen taking on Silver's Darth Maul style of karate, and best yet a road trip through Mexico, Miguel looking for his dad, and best yet, Johnny, back in the lead. He was lost in the mix on the previous season and now it seems he'll be important again like it's supposed to be. So they basically split up all the main characters and spread them around. And it's summer (cruel, cruel summer) so none of the high school melodramatics. This might be back to the quality of the Red band days.

It was a good start

Good start to season 5 of Cobra Kai. The starting episode is much better than season 4's starting episode in my opinion . My particular favourite scene was Johnny and Robby vs the scammers in Mexico. Miguel's father looks to be much better than he was described In the first two seasons but we'll see about that later on. Have high expectations for the rest of this season. Miguel also has a step brother who he saved from getting hit by a car and even a step mother. Also a lot of father son bonding with Johnny and Robby Overall I give this episode a 9.3 out of ten. Cant wait for the rest of the season and season 6 hopefully.

Good Premiere

I like the direction it's heading so far.

The Mexico storyline is getting interesting, still a majority of this episode is build-up for what's to come.

There are a lot of moments and jokes in this episode that I could see coming from a mile away.

I found it strange how simple-minded Miguel was in his opening scene, then I realized he's still a teenager. Still a unique scene and the payoff to that moment became the most satisfying part in the episode.

With the exception of some of the slapstick humor so far, I can tell I'm really going to enjoy this season. Season 4 is probably my least favorite season so far and season 5 appears to be heading in a different direction.

To keep things short, very good start. The writing is setting up nice and intriguing things already, Chozen going all in, haha. He's going to be a definite season highlight. Basically, he has taken an alias and is keeping close to Terry Silver as a sensai who may work, "work" I mean, for cobra kai, as they're expanding their sensai and their locations for dojos. It's very brief in this episode, but it was great. Daniel and Amanda have a brief argument, as Amanda is done with this, she cannot take anymore. Daniel shuts Miyagi Do, much to the dislike of the students. Johnny and Robby go searching for Miguel. What I mean by this writing, being setup and it getting exciting, is also because the story with Miguel looking for his father has already gotten a bit interesting and there's been one or two moments setting up that have been good.

This is just a good solid start and sets up episode two pretty well. Ok, another thing is there was some mild action involved, just enough for the start, the opening episode, but it was pretty cool. Some students and some characters aren't seen in episode one, but what we have got thus far, I'm enjoying it .

Nothing explosive action wise yet, but it has been enjoyable imo. I think this was equally as good as the opening to season four but was way better than the premier episodes of season 2 and 3. Best characters in this one: Chozen, Johnny, and Miguel. Mostly Chozen. He's gonna be brilliant this season, you just know it.

8/10 episode.

Good start

Cobra Kai is a show that has a charm of its own. Just when I think it leans too much on the PG side or is a bit too PC it proves me wrong. The episode nicely picks off from the last season earlier this year. It is eventful and at the same time lays some foundations for future episodes. It doesn't gloss over things but takes time to explain its storylines a little better. I feel this overall episode nicely flows with the storylines so far. You don't want a slow episode but at the same time you want to be eased in so a decent start. The acting is great as usual and you can feel the intensity in the scenes.

No Andrews, Kreese, Barnes, Snake or Dennis

Warning: Spoilers
In connection to the ending of season 4 to this episode I have to say that the plot reminds me an awful lot like William Zabka's 'Shootfighter' movie where his friend, Nick, has to go down to Mexico to save him. The chick in that, Jill, should have won an Oscar for best actress.

The problem I have with Cobra Kai season 4, and this episode, is that it's too lavish that it's almost resembling an episode of 'Bold and The Beautiful.' It's just becoming too much of a soap opera with little rich people and their petty squabbles. (I didn't enjoy season 4. It seemed rushed and it's bad timing releasing season 5 when the NFL's just kicked off.)

Enter the dragon as Chozen is introduced naked to the show much to the shock horror of Amanda's eyes. Landing on Bondi Beach, Miguel encounters Thor, who successfully swindles him out of all his money. Welcome to Mexico.

Johnny and Robby also land in Mexico to a Spanish version of a Poison song where they're uncomfortably bonding still.

Meanwhile, at Miyagi-Do Karate, Daniel-San gives the lowdown on progress as Sam still lives with an incredible amount of shame for losing the tournament but these shows are all about redemption so by series end no doubt Tory will discover guilt, about the secret she's harboring, and will confess to Silver's bribery and she'll team up with Sam and they'll become 'The Odd Couple,' I mean besties, and all will be peachy on the home front.

Keeping his word, Daniel-San closes down Miyagi-Do Karate. (Don't sweat, it'll only be temporary.)

No subtitles are provided as Miguel and Aaron Donald have a long conversation in Spanish down in Mexico.

If I'm not mistaken this driving scene with Johnny and Robby is green screened?

The biggest sin in 'Cobra Kai' is Thomas Ian Griffith not dyeing his hair jetblack. He looks like the offspring of Doc Emmett Brown. Not menacing at all, Mr. Silver.

Daniel-San and Chozen hatch a plan to fight fire with fire to beat Silver at his own game. I guess this involves some sort of baby toy, or stick? "Come here. I want to show you something."

Working as a team, Johnny and Robby bash up some tourists and in a small world Miguel meets his dad and is invited to dinner. (Love how everything falls into place so conveniently.)

Robby continues to prove to be difficult sending mixed messages to Johnny. It's petulant immature behavior. They either like each other, or they don't? Make up your mind. The pouty spats can't continue. And why doesn't Robby ever report for parole if he was only released from prison not long ago? As if they'd let a convicted felon cross the Mexican border.

In a classic shock, soap opera ending, a 50 year old Chozen enlists in Cobra Kai by stealth as Terry Silver is totally unaware of who just infiltrated their dojo.

What they should have done was bring back Jessica Andrews and have her seek revenge for what Cobra Kai put her through as Mr. Silver, and Barnes, are not Chozen's fight.

No Andrews, Kreese, Barnes, Snake or Dennis in this episode. Too many other characters though and not enough time to fit them all in in this short 30-minute episode. Sadly, time goes so fast when you indulge in 'Cobra Kai.' For the record... give Hawk more air time.

Already knocking it out of the park
jdoneagain9 September 2022
No spoilers - but the show picks up right where the other one left off, though, there does seem to be a LITTLE bit of a time-warp.

As in, I just realized that there's perhaps at least a month or even 3, from what happened with the Cobra Kai dojo (it's in the commercials advertising for this season) and what happens with Johnny as he chases after Miquel.

Anyway, considering I didn't notice that until after the episode was over, just shows how good it is.

It's the same old Johnny, with his throwbacks to 80s sentimentality (thank God!) yet, he's not completely the neanderthal he was. I mean, at least he uses a cell phone.

The plot still has some surprises, which, I gotta say, is really amazing that they've been able to do that through five seasons - it's what keeps this show fresh. Perfectly understandable and believable twists, that don't leave you feeling like the writers/directors are trying to pull a fast one on ya, "Gotcha!" - rather, you're left nodding, and thinking that it makes sense.

Can't wait for the next episode, and it's so refreshing to see a modern series, (there are so few - another one is Stranger Things) that can keep things new and interesting, without having to drop to cliches or unbelievable plot-holes or gimmicks to keep you glued to the screen.

And this isn't just fan service, in bringing back people from before - however, fact is, there's nothing wrong with fan service when it serves the plot, and also brings in new fans as well.

Great, great entertainment!

Warning: Spoilers
The plot is slow and clichéd, the characters feel too flat, and the plot of the episode could be told in less than 15 minutes. There are aspects that do not contribute anything, such as the car crash they had, I did not dedicate anything, not to mention the illogical That everything that happens to Miguel like finding his father in a huge place just manages to find him. The truth compared to season 1, this seems more like a parody and an empty chapter Made like this for the simple fact that they want the season Reach 10 episodes, a disappointment and a waste of history. What logic has the father only why if he already invites him to eat at his house the logical and convenient.
