Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan is a critically acclaimed masterpiece. It has been collectively agreed that the film is one of the best works of his career, being excellent in every way, shape, or form. The cast of the film was spectacular, giving the performances of their lives. On top of this, the direction, storytelling, and cinematography of the movie helped it gain the many Oscars that it did.

However, the curse of the film industry makes it so that even the flawless are labeled as having something missing. The same was the case for the 1998 film, which was being accused of being ‘too Hollywood’. Thankfully for Spielberg, he has been around the block a couple of times and knows how to handle criticism.

Steven Spielberg created one hell of a revenge movie in 2005’s Munich, which was based on George Jonas’ book Vengeance. The film (and the book) was a fictionalized version of the real-life assassinations that followed the killing of Israeli athletes in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. It was one of Spielberg’s most controversial films as Mossad condemned the portrayal of their assassins in the film.

The Jaws director is unapologetic about the criticism that his film faced. He shared that he wanted the conversation to take place surrounding the themes of the film. Interestingly, it was one of the lowest-grossing Spielberg films in the United States.

Steven Spielberg used a filming technique he hadn’t applied since E.T. to shoot the classic film Saving Private Ryan. But he didn’t expect the demoralizing effect that would have on the film.

Spielberg already knew he was going to direct a world war two movie before he did Saving Private Ryan. He just didn’t know what movie that was gonna be before the Tom Hanks war film. He was soon sent the film’s script by a screenwriter, and found the war movie he wanted to do.
“As a matter of fact, it was the only time in my several decades of having an agent that they actually gave me a screenplay that I wound up directing,” he once told the DGA.

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and our hearts are aflutter thinking about the most romantic couplings on our favorite shows.
More specifically, we're reminiscing about some of TV's greatest LGBTQ+ relationships. These couples don't just give us butterflies -- they also provide much-needed representation to a group that doesn't get to see themselves in characters very often.
These couples, fictional though they may be, are the definition of relationship goals.
As any TV fan knows, a good on-screen relationship needs several factors to work. The actors have to have chemistry, the characters have to have chemistry, and their relationship has to make sense in the context of the plot.
Sometimes, especially with LGBTQ+ pairings, it can feel like the writers just throw people together for the sake of a subplot, but those couples don't tend to resonate with audiences.
One example of this is Alex and Piper from Orange is the New Black.

Howard Stern has been one of the most controversial – and revered – figures in the history of modern media. With a passion for the field as a child, Stern’s climb to the top of the radio world truly began in the ‘80s. And he did it off of his unique, button-pressing, FCC-clashing brand and humor: the boobs, the prank calls, the Wack Pack, all of it all made Howard Stern one of the most recognizable figures in all of media. And so as his markets grew and his written word topped the charts – but long before his first $500 million contract with Sirius – it was time for Stern to enter the movie business…with something a little more commercially viable than Butt Bongo Fiesta.

Plenty of haunted, Halloween and holiday options will crop up on Netflix in the month of October. The harvest doesn’t seem too lean despite the almost five-month writers strike that viewers are sure to feel next year, but at least the WGA and AMPTP have reached a deal, and hopefully, SAG-AFTRA is not too far behind. Luckily, Halloween and fall have a classic canon of films and TV shows that stretches back decades, and some of those staple watches will be available through Netflix throughout the month.
Movies include “Casper,” “Scarface” and the first two “The Amazing Spider-Man” films. New arrivals worth the wait include Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” starring Zendaya and Timotheé Chalamet among other heavy hitters, “Fair Play” with Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich and David Yates’ “Pain Hustlers” starring Emily Blunt and Chris Evans. Mike Flanagan’s “Fall of the House of Usher” is sure to...

"The Vampire Diaries"
Based on the best-selling book series, "The Vampire Diaries" is the story of two vampire brothers, obsessed with the same gorgeous girl, who are battling to control the fate of an entire town. In Season One, Stefan and Damon Salvatore returned to their hometown of Mystic Falls, Virginia, for very different reasons. Stefan was determined to get to know Elena Gilbert, who bears a striking resemblance to Katherine Pierce, the beautiful but ruthless vampire the brothers knew and loved — in 1864. Damon, on the other hand, was intent on releasing Katherine from the tomb where he believed she was trapped by a witch’s spell all those years ago.

And we have clips! We tip our fedoras to The CW, the network with the highest our-kind-of-primetime-show count, second only to Syfy. Well done, The CW! And though they canceled one of our shows – sorry, The Secret Circle fans – they’ve brought in two more: The Arrow and Beauty and the Beast.
These new shows surround or maybe even caused a shift in scheduling for fall 2012. Supernatural fans especially, take note. The CW would like to take over our TVs on Wednesday, with DC Comics-based we’ve-been-waiting-so-long-for-this Arrow at 8/7c, followed by Supernatural at 9/8c. What a great pairing! And Not on a Friday, hooray! The CW, you are now granted our TVs on Wednesday nights.
Thursday nights will bring a return of the beloved The Vampire Diaries at 8/7c, paired with newbie Beauty and the Beast at 9/8c. Yes, yes, this also works for us, thank you! The...

And about time, too! We had a pretty good indication that Supernatural would be renewed for an eighth(!) season when they announced last month that new showrunner Jeremy Carver would be taking over those duties from Sera Gamble, who has chosen to concentrate on other projects. Still, we kept waiting, and waiting…
Similarly, The Vampire Diaries has consistently scored well in the ratings for The CW, so again we were fairly confident, but still we were waiting to hear confirmation of a fourth season. Today is the day!
According to TVLine, the confirmation is an especially a good thing as Supernatural is set to end the current season with a giant cliffhanger. Which should also come as no surprise. And we have hope that something else good may come with that renewal, as Misha Collins has reportedly advised that he’d love to come back next season… Yes Please.

Chord Overstreet and Emma Roberts may be giving their romance another shot. After going their separate ways earlier this year, the Sam Evans of popular musical series "Glee" and the Grace Smart of "Valentine's Day" were said to have had a romantic, yet fun bowling date at Pinz in Studio City, California on Saturday, April 8.
An eyewitness said the ex-lovers are "definitely back on" since they looked to be "having so much fun together." The onlooker continued dishing on the alleged reuniting couple, "They were laughing and giggling and hugging each other, just like a normal couple."
The niece of actress Julia Roberts "even took photos of Chord with a female fan," so the eyewitness told Radar Online, adding that the 21-year-old beauty and the 23-year-old hunk "cheered each other on as they hit the pins."
Emma herself took to her Twitter page to share a picture of her bowling...

This one wins no points in the most original name competition, but hey, neither did Cops. This week Alloy Entertainment is starting its push for its latest brand-backed teen web series, Talent: The Casting Call, with the lucky final six contestants (out of thousands from a nationwide search) flown out to La to face off in hopes of becoming the next ’superstar.’ Nothing surprising here, as Alloy has played this card before with the prequel reality version of its Private web series, where it faced a final three actresses against each other for the last remaining role in the scripted drama. Sanna Haynes ended up winning the spot, and while the performance was solid, this wasn’t exactly a superstar vehicle for the young actor. So you’ll have to understand our skepticism of the whole premise of this one. The six duking it out are Danielle Kalil, Suzi Oravec,...

Alloy Entertainment, the production company behind Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl, and The Vampire Diaries, launched their newest project, Hollywood is Like High School with Money, a web series based off the book of the same name by New York Times bestseller Zoey Dean. The series stars Kelsey Sanders, Ian Harding (Pretty Little Liars) and Brian Hallisay (Privileged), and features an appearance by The Hills reality star Whitney Port and outfits from her new clothing line Whitney Eve. Alloy Entertainment is no stranger to the novel-turned-television-show, having put out Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, and Pretty Little Liars, all shows based on The New York Times bestselling series that are also published by Alloy. Private is simply the next in a long line of shows based on books, with one major difference: it’s a web series. While the DVD box calls Private a “movie about romance, privilege and murder,” it began as 20 webisodes, each about 4 to 6 minutes in length. However, the part about romance, privilege and murder is spot on. Reed Brennan (played by Kelsey Sander) leaves her small town life behind as she begins her first semester at Easton Academy, a prestigious boarding school in New England. She’s placed in Billings Hall, the best dorm on campus, and manages to snag herself a hot new boyfriend, Thomas (Brant Daugherty).

"Pretty Little Liars" Aria found herself in a bit of a love triangle at midseason's end -- though she did appear to choose Mr. Fitz in the finale. Zap2it caught up with the other side of the triangle, Brant Daugherty, to find out if Noel Kahn will be back in Aria's life.
"As far as being Aria's boyfriend, the finale showed her intentions pretty clearly," says Daugherty. "From what we've seen so far, he's very persistent. But the interesting thing is that he's been putting the pieces together over the last few episodes. He's definitely putting the pieces of the puzzle together."
That sounds like Noel might be considering spilling the beans on Aria and Ezra.
"He likes Aria too much to do that," Daugherty assures us. "But I think he would definitely have a chat with her. Maybe a more forceful chat."

Bank & Reed sounds like a soldered old New York law firm, but in this case it’s the twosome of Josh Bank and Tripp Reed, the two Alloy Entertainment execs overseeing their newly formed digital division and its first official digital slate of three new original web series coming this summer and fall. The three series will release back-to-back, with the first up being, First Day, an original comedy series written by Alyssa Embree and Jessica Koosed Etting and starring Tracey Fairaway (Make It or Break It) and Elizabeth McLaughlin (The Clique) that “follows a seventeen-year-old girl who relives her first day at a new school over and over.” Well, original in that 1993’s Groundhog Day pre-dates most of the actors in this one. First Day is set to launch in late August with an 8-episode first season. Following First Day is the mid-September release of Hollywood is like High School With Money,...

Turning teen novel series into web series is becoming a regular thing for Alloy Entertainment, and why not, it seems to be working. The latest sendup from bookshelves is The Clique from author Lisi Harrison. This time Alloy has teamed up with Warner Premiere to develop a live-action version of the teen drama for the digital distribution. Warner has tapped FM78.tv to produce the series, the new media savvy production company headed by Justine Bateman, Jill Kushner and Peter Murrieta. Murrieta, exec producers of Disney Channel’s Wizard of Waverly Place will executive produce the series along with Alloy’s Leslie Morgenstein and Bob Levy, who produced the 2009 DVD movie version of The Clique. Kushner and Bateman will co-write the script which is currently in development. By my count, there are 12 books in the series, plus another 5 from a “summer” edition. Each of the books sports cutsy movie puns for...
