In terms of Content, SonyLiv is indeed giving tough competition against the 'Big Boys'
SoumikBanerjee199622 October 2021
'Tabbar' is vicious, pragmatic and most importantly; it exemplifies (in a quite conscientious manner) what it truly takes to be a 'Patriarch' of a middle-class ordinary family.

"To what length would a man go to protect his family?" A rather realistic portrayal of this exact mentality can be observed here (albeit a bit contentious, I agree); where family comes first under every kind of circumstance you could ever imagine!

Tabbar's undeniable strength lies in its twisted narration, stellar performances and this never-ending air of tension that never allows you to settle! The approach may not scream perfection, and some may as well be doing unnecessary comparisons to other Bollywood/Regional works; still, from my point of view, the execution as a whole inevitably finds its footing and remains resolute until the credits roll.

Not to mention, all that typical, caricaturish drama and so-called Bollywood-ish treatment slowly and gradually die down and only then do we get to witness the true quality underneath.

Now moving on to the deficiencies, alongside the obvious Caricaturish drama, or the Bollywood-ish treatment, the fundamental characterization is probably the most fragile characteristic here. Not taking away anything from the cast, as most of them did respectably well enough (Barring Pawan Malhotra & Supriya Pathak, they were sensational); It's just that the writing on certain characters leaves a lot to be desired!

Had this series provided a bit more time in each one of their philosophies, or made episodes specially designed and dedicated to each one of those central characters; the outcome would have been far more meaningful and justified. I'm telling you all this cause, they did forget to tie up some loose ends. As you shall see!

Another Sony liv hit
sameerlodaya15 October 2021
Once again Sony live came with a Hit

The story is about how a father does all the heights to protects his sons..pavan Malhotra again played his role remarkably with Supriya Pathak and gagan..Ajit has directed well with keeping the pace of the series steady and gripping

A little drag you will feel in episode 4 to 6 but then again it comes to the track.. the climax is very bold and is concluded according to script

Highly quality of drama, thrill, acting, emotions you will find in this series.

Pavan Malhotra and Supriya Pathak Powers This Engrossing Family Thriller Drama !!!
cs_rahul_prasad18 October 2021
'Tabbar' (which means 'family' in Punjabi) is an engrossing eight-episode series that stays true to the title. The plot is set in the hamlet of Deep Nagar in Jalandhar (Punjab), with co-writers Harman Wadala and Sandeep Jain and director Ajitpal Singh transporting the action to the backdrop of a tragic incident that occurred in Singh's family.

The story, as told through the eyes of various characters, emphasises the significance of family unity, especially during difficult times. The protagonist is a retired police constable, Omkar Singh (Pavan Malhotra), who now runs a small Kirana Store (grocery shop) for a living. Omkar adores his wife Sargun (Supriya Pathak), and he does everything for her, from taking care of her diabetic medications to helping her with the daily chores. His two sons; Harpreet aka Happy (Gagan Arora), a dutiful son preparing for the IPS in Delhi, and a college student aspiring to be a social influencer, Tegi (Sahil Mehta).

Unfortunately, the dynamics of this family change when Maheep Sodhi (Rachit Bahal), the brother of local politician Ajeet Singh Sodhi (Ranvir Shorey), is shot dead by Happy. Happy's father, Omkar, feels compelled to go to any length to protect his son. But, the incident instills fear in the family, and this high-profile case puts the cops on alert.

Edited by Parikshhit Jha, each taut episode of 'Tabbar' is about 35-45 minutes long. The dramatic plot swings from one extreme to the other while maintaining equilibrium. The writing, on the other hand, is unconvincing at times, especially when the entire family is working to keep their secrets hidden. A slow-burning ethical and emotional squabble erupts as the clamps on central characters-Omkar and his wife-tighten. Even when Omkar's grand plan goes awry, causing logistical issues, the performances remain consistent and the characters continue to engage the viewers. The tempo slows down in the first few episodes, and it takes too long to establish the premise. The second half, on the other hand, is intense and engaging, with the climax serving only as a capstone.

On the face of it, Omkar appears to be an idealistic, upright man. However, after straying too far from his convictions later in the story, his actions simply demonstrate that "all lines get blurred, when it comes to your blood." Pavan Malhotra is commendable as Omkar Singh. He is the driving force behind the show, expertly steering the pivotal character. Supriya Pathak's character Sargun is the pinnacle of strength and nurturing. Her primary role as a mother remains unchanged, but her development throughout the course of the show is impressive. Supriya Pathak plays Sargun to perfection, especially in scenes where she feels guilty and suffocates under the constant weight of trying to save her son. In addition, the meticulous attention to detail, from Sargun's round gold bali's (jhumkas) to the use of Punjabi language and the setup, lends them a more authentic on-screen appearance. The music and background soundtrack by Sneha Khanwalkar also fit in beautifully, striking an emotional connection with the audience.

Gagan Arora has previously played a naive lover boy in rom-com web series such as 'College Romance' and 'Girls Hostel'. He does, however, play a crucial role in this family drama, and he appears to be quite promising and convincing in the role of Happy. Gagan's relationship with the neighbourhood girl, Palak (Nupur Nagpal), remains undeveloped and underwhelming. Nothing to blame the couple for; it's the plot's many layers that divert attention away from them. Paramvir Singh Cheema stands tall over other characters as police officer Lucky, dealing with simple theft cases until he proves himself capable. He's one of the most likeable characters to root for.

Ranvir Shorey is excellent as the local politician Ajeet Singh Sodhi. His persona consists of many different aspects. On the one hand, he is a compassionate individual concerned about his missing brother, but he is also merciless when things don't go his way. Ranvir Shorey's actions and emotions never cease to terrify viewers. In many aspects, his right-hand man, Multan (played by Ali Mughal), is similar to him.

While Tabbar revolves around the Singh family and their strong bond with each other, it's the plot twists and the performances, especially those of Supriya Pathak and Pavan Malhotra, that power this absorbing and intense family drama. The whole premise is a bit dark, but that shouldn't deter you from binge-watching this one.

Pavan Malhotra steals the show
madonnicallysony24 October 2021
Right from the beginning, Tabbar doesnt waste much time on unnecessary nonsense. The story starts from the first episode and gets twisted with each episode right till the end. One of the darkest and saddest web series ever made. Tabbar doesnt disappoint at all....

Tabbar-season 1
puranjanbasak19 October 2021
Tabbar is a family drama thriller directed by ajitpal singh. Here are the positives and negatives:

Acting-the performances are unquestionable. Pawan malhotra is a legend. His eyes are so damn expressive that you just cannot take your eyes off him. Its a shame that he is not talked about often. Supriya pathak has portrayed the character of an ailing mother masterfully. You can feel her pain and agony. The scenes between her and pawan ji are so real that you just could not make the difference between reality and acting. Ranveer shorey in his limited screentime has done a marvellous job. Stoic, angry and bold is his character. Gagan arora has transitioned beautifully from those comedy sketches to this intense drama. He is great. Other actors have done their job beautifully in their respective places.

Cinematography-the cinematography is absolutely brilliant. There are some uncomfortable dutch sequences used meticulously. The top view sequences including the water and blood sequence shown in the trailer is well crafted. Watch out for the cinematography!!

Background score-the background score is haunting and beautiful at the same time. What's more fascinating is the use of silence. It enhances the beauty of this show. The episodes start with the quotes of baba farid and in each episode those songs are played and are placed beautifully.

Writing-to flesh out a gritty and raw show like this, you need an impeccable writing. Tabbar is excellently written. The writing is one of its strongest qualities. The emotions and aura is well evoked.

Screenplay-the screenplay is tight and engaging. See, this story is not new. Even drishyam has a few similarities with this show. But what makes it a class piece is how well it is presented thanks to the screenplay. The screenplay does not falter a bit and maintains its pace throughout. It is slow and detailed so you will have to be friends with patience.

Tabbar is an excellent show which is gritty, dark and noir type. It is slow but not boring, mind you. You definitely should watch it. I rate it 10 out of 10.

THE BEST SERIES I EVER WATCHED
rajbawa8617 October 2021
Tabbar is undoubtedly the best series i have ever watched. By "Best" I mean the best around the world. Tabbar is Super Dark, Gritty, and intense. I am not sure if you would get a flavour of Parasite butI found Tabbar to be better than it in many ways. Pavan Malhotra, Supriya Pathak, Ranvir Shorey. Paramveer Cheema. Gagan Arora. Sahil Mehta deserves highest acting awards and more pivotal work going forth. In fact the whole supporting cast did a great work. Great direction, story and cinematography. No Spoilers, Go watch it. You wouldn't want to miss Tabbar.

A dark family drama!
mayankshukla140420 October 2021
Tabbar is a worthy addition to the list of quality content streaming on Sony Liv platform. It is an engaging crime drama about a man willing to go to any length to save his family. The lines are continuously blurred between the good and bad as the show proceeds. Things keep on getting darker with the tabbar (family) getting embroiled in difficult situations and more crimes.

Pavan Malhotra steals the show with another powerful performance after the amazing Grahan. He gets brilliant support from his partners in crime Supriya Pathak and Gagan Arora. Paramveer Cheema is another talent to watch out for. Director Ajitpal Singh makes a fine debut with this show. If you loved the film Drishyam which was based on the same idea you would like this one too. The show is an intense binge watch!

Very good story but has many loopholes
rajmht-0862515 December 2021
The Direction is so well that it engages you and holds you up till the end.

But the loopholes i feel were very major.

1. How could atm card do not have any name on it ?

2. No camera when omkar(happy father) goes to post mortem office to change the report 3. How did he came out of the post mortem office 4. Took 20 lakhs by selling house but the house was there till the last ep 5. From where did the 2 goons (male and female one) came and took omkar and sargun to the hill top to kill 6. From where did multan came over there to kill both of them ( how did he came to know...he was in comma) 7. Bad editing - many scenes were directly shown as complete....how when where part is skipped 8. How did happy escaped and took the bike and started it to rob her fiancee bag.the girl is shouting in the middle of a pack market to catch that robber (happy) but nobody tries to catch or stop 9.car was taken of payal in the first ep...but till the end of the ep car was with singh family...no clarification on that part.

Unmissable "Tabbar" missed some details
mirzasuhail-0446320 October 2021
After a long time I have binge watched a series. It's amazing but lacks some major things. No focus was given at police interrogation. Everything was so easy for them to do. But they maintained the suspense and thrill throughout the series. Loved it. Could have been better. Still 8 for keeping me in same position for 5 straight hours.

Needlessly dark, slow and convenient
bansalvardaan14 December 2021
1. Execution better than a lot of other over rated Indian series.

2. Too loose and convenient for the protagonists.

3. Stellar performance by Pawan Malhotra and Supriya Pathak. Paramveer Cheema deserves a commendation for his acting. Ranvir Shorey's acting talent not put to use.

Holistically, there was nothing new in the story. Seemed like a far fetched sequel to the movie Drishyam.

Mother of coincidence
ashish-ashish-meena3327 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Ok first of all i dont get why this is highly rated the only plus of this series is acting and somewhat direction here and there, but the logic is thrown out of window for the sake of narration.

Let's review some of them.

1- the happy character is dumb when he decided to grab the bag knowingly but doesn't bother to pick up his belonging like his identity cards or paper which could lead to him, and why even bother to grab a whole bag if he get time to pick up a whole bag just steal the box of drug.

2- the coincidence in this series is so bizzare, like bodyguard and drug goons have gps in them and know where to find them.

3- And the watch man just thrown away that watch or switch off that damn alarm.

4- some plots were thrown in the mix but didn't develop like the younger brother confession infront of his friend, the drug angle who were those 2 people who sent them. I could blalbber all day but there are just many holes and plot move to his own pace of convience.

A dark taut thriller with brilliant performances
bps-1672920 October 2021
Tabbar(means Family in Punjabi ) @Sony liv

An engrossing story of a Punjabi family which gets entangled in the web of lies, deceits and crimes to save themselves after a murder is committed. The concoction of Politics & drugs has rightly been used by the creators.

Pawan Malhotra as Omkar Singh is a treat to watch. His face expressions of anger, guilt, helplessness, love all seems to be real. What a wonderful actor he is. He is aptly supported by Supriya Pathak, Gagan Arora, Sahil Mehta, Paramvir Cheema, Ranveer Shorey, Kanwaljeet & other actors. Brilliant performances are icing on the cake with taught storyline. One who loves dark thrillers would enjoy this one.

A gripping tale. must watch.
manavjain-5783029 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Imagine the scene in which munna bhaiya came to ramakant pandit's house to scare them into withdrawing the case he took in season 1. There imagine that. Munna bhaiya is pointing the gun towards ramakant's wife but bablu takes the gun out and shoots munna bhaiya. Now ramakant being a responsible father has to sort the situation out in order to ensure the safety of his family. There another drishyam (starring ajay devgan) seeming saga begins in which the whole family tries to do things which could ensure the safety of each other. In here also the family is caught up in a situation and due to that they are made to kill a powerful politician's brother now to be safe they have to bury all the evidence against them but for that they have to face a politician whose brother was mistakenly killed by the family. The more the case unfolds the more it entangles more decisions are to be taken by omkar which is the head of the family. And soon episode by episode they keep entrapping into a vicious circle of politics and wrong decisions. It is an extremely gripping show which is full of twists and turns which will make you sit till the end without skipping or wanting to miss anything. It created a tension at every episode and holds on to it till the very end. Its a great thriller and the performance of the entire cast and direction makes it even greater. The performance of supriya pathak, pawan malhotra is outstanding other co actors also played their parts with utmost perfection and precision. They just make you step into their shoes and makes you wonder what would you've done had you been in their position. It is an amazing watch and i just finished it in one sitting. The episodes are average sized neither long nor short enough. You can easily binge it which I Suggest you do if you do not want to miss this masterpiece.

A true masterpiece!
UmeshAditya19 October 2021
This series is a true masterpiece! Another typical Drishyam movie but to another level. A highly intense dark thriller keeps you engaged from beginning but ends on a sad note. Shows the extent to which a family can go to protect itself! My ratings 9/10. One rating less for being a little slow.

It's not an usual family drama . To what extent would a man go to protect his family ? A raw and violent family thriller drama . Completely intresting thriller series from Sony Liv . Writers done a great job in script . Performance wise Pawan Malhotra was terrific and show stealer . All other cast gave their best . My only drawback , few places were bit forced . Overall a must watch crime thriller series . If you like Drishyam movie , then give a try . I hope you like it .

yogindrarawat21 October 2021
Sony Liv Suprises everyone with some new series, last year it was Scam 1992 on Harshad Mehta, and now they have come up with Tabbar. All 8 episodes of Tabbar are engaging, there is drama, thrills, emptions and heart touching scenes. Pavan Malohotra and Supriya Pathak have given their best, in fact all supporting cast has done a splendid job.

Full marks on Direction and Screenplay. It is a worth watching series!

Incredible Pavan Malhotra

It shows to what extent a common man go for the family, without realizing you start doing what is actually not right. What a performance by Pavan Malhotra, even when he's silent his acting skills are way more than other shouting actors.

Dumb and Illogical
PatrickKnightt24 January 2022
The start was decent and upto 4 episode it was bearable. The second half is totally unwatchable. It gets so illogical that you won't feel anything for anyone here. It is an overrated series. I don't know why it is 8.4 here.

Okay so good things first. I loved the acting of every actor. They did justice to their character. The production is decent.

That's it for good things. The characters are foolishly written and they do illogical things. It is a world of stupid people. It lacks the character development and you don't even understand why a chacter do something. Uselles subplot ruins the pace. What could have been a masterpiece ends up being a huhe disappointment. My advice is do not watch it please. Don't waste your time.

A Clean Thriller
kazihaquedhk22 October 2021
This is how a thrilling Indian web series should be made.

The best part of this show was that there was not a single bold or obscene scenes in the entire series. I thank the makers for making sure about that. You can surely watch this infront of anyone without any worry.

Fanstastically made. Keeps you hooked!
