Looking At Avatar
He did it. James Cameron pulled it off. All of the praise and positive quips you’ve read, heard, and watched are spot on. Avatar is a behemoth spectacle to behold, a mighty game-changing cinematic dinosaur made of fire and fueled by Jolt Cola. The all-encompassing 3D CG environment coupled with the “Best Ever” motion-captured actors is all numbingly realistic to the point of confusion. Take one of the greatest mainstream directors of all time, let him gestate on a film’s production for over a decade, then stir in a well-used $300 million and you will get Avatar. This is hardly the misfire, dream-project that so many feared. This isn’t James Cameron’s Legend (even though I like Legend.) It has all the markings of a wet-dream-big-director-project gone wrong, yet in the equation Cameron remembered one thing, to make the movie for himself And the audience.

Editor's Note: This article contains potential spoilers from last night's South Park episode. You've been warned. Have you guys seen this? Have you seen this one? You may have, but I've decided to show it to you anyway. Our friends at /Film may have gotten to it first, but it's worth mentioning again. Last night, the brilliant minds of South Park -- the last bastion of great parody work in this world -- lampooned the concept behind James Cameron's upcoming film Avatar. In the episode, Eric Cartman goes into Glenn Beck mode and tells his very personal story about his time spent with The Smurfs. He then later finds out that his story, which was made into a movie called Dances with Smurfs, has been stolen by James Cameron and adapted into the film Avatar. It's brilliant. Check out part of the episode in the clip below, or check out the entire thing over at Southpark...

Warning: This entire article talks about an episode of South Park and gives away a few jokes. But by no means does it really ruin the episode. Spoilers, but not very big ones.
Last night’s episode of South Park really struck a chord with me as a movie geek. The plot of the episode involved taking on talk radio with Eric Cartman becoming a Rush Limbaugh/Bill O’Reilly type of character. Cartman trashed the school president Wendy saying she didn’t do enough and then the entire episode shifted to nerd culture when Cartman brought up how Wendy wants to kill Smurfs.
Cartman made a whole story/film called Dances with Smurfs where Cartman moves in with the Smurfs, falls in love with one of them and then only to have them all destroyed in front of him so that Wendy can collect Smurf-berries to power the school.
