- In downtown Gotham, a man runs to catch a bus. It pulls away, and on the bus, a teenager shows his friend Taylor that he found a canister under a bridge. Down the street, the businessman watches as the bus freezes over.
The news is soon on the scene and suggesting that the frozen bus is linked to the deceased Mr. Freeze. Meanwhile, Ryan meets with Jada to return to their previous conversation. Jada turns off the TV and tells Ryan that she never planned on meeting her daughter, and congratulates her on becoming a remarkable young woman. Ryan says that she didn't come there to blame Jada for anything, even if Ryan was unplanned, and just wanted to tell her biological mother that she turned out okay.
Jada tells Ryan that she's not interested in having a relationship with her. Ryan asks what Jada was afraid of, and Jada tells her that it's better not to ask question. She then threatens Ryan and Wayne Enterprises if Ryan keeps pushing the matter, and Ryan says that she now knows that her birth mother is someone not worth her time. Jada's son Marquis comes in, and says that figured that Jada not inviting him there was an oversight. When Ryan wonders who Marquis is, Marquis says that he's the Executive Vice President of Jeturian Industries, and Jada proudly says that Marquis is her son.
Ryan goes back to the office and tells Sophie what happened. As she goes to the Batcave, Ryan says that she's going to hunt down the new Mr. Freeze. Mary and Luke offer their condolences, while Alice looks on and says that she killed Ryan's adopted mom and provided her with her birth mother.
Luke reports that the canister concentrated the free substance, and figures the teenager found it down by the river. Alice complains about the nanobots in her, and Ryan reminds her that Renee wants the two of them to work together to recover the trophies. Unimpressed, Alice says that it's hard for her to focus through the "pain" of the nanobots. Luke suggests that Ryan give Alice a "sick day", because he knows the canister is in the GCPD and Renee won't want Alice going in.
Later, Batwoman breaks into the GCPD while Luke takes the surveillance cameras down. Batwoman find a cage with hazardous materials, burns her way through the lock, goes in, searches for the canister, and discovers that the canister has been stolen.
Dee Smithy brings her shopping cart with the canister in it to her sister Nora Fries, and Dee says that they can finish what Victor started. A mercenary and her men break in and the mercenary tells Nora that she's going to explain how she was frozen for twenty years and survived.
Ryan returns to the Batcave, and Luke shows her footage he hacked from the cameras showing that Dee, who works at the GCPD processing desk and called in sick for the first time in twenty years. There's also a photo of a much younger Nora, and Luke explains that it's an Arkham intake photo from three years ago. Victor created a liquid nitrogen formula to keep her alive. When Nora thawed out of the cryochamber that Victor put her in to save her life, she was told that they had a cure for her disease. Disoriented, she was taken to Arkham and escaped in a breakout three years ago. Luke has learned that Dee is Nora's sister.
An alarm goes off, and they confirm that Marquis is in the office, bouncing a basketball off the wall. Ryan goes upstairs and confronts Marquis, who invites her out to a drink. When Ryan points out that Jada doesn't want Ryan to cross her path, Marquis is impressed. He knows about Ryan's background, and that Ryan is his sister. Marquis says that Jada disappeared for nine months when he was a kid, and then her and Marquis's father didn't speak for years. Ryan figures that Jada had an affair, and Marquis has worked out the timing and concluded that Ryan is his sister.
Marquis offers his hand, and says that he wants to partner with Wayne Enterprises. He figures that he has to show Jada what he can do or he'll only be an honorary VP, and asks Ryan for her answer.
Ryan sends Marquis out, then goes to Dee's house as Batwoman, and calls Luke and tells him that she's thinking about Marquis's offer. She breaks into the house and finds the place torn up, and finds the medicines that Nora was using. Batwoman figures that Dee was trying to find a cure for her sister, but someone else interfered. Luke tracks Victor's cryochamber to Ace Chemicals, and Batwoman goes there.
At Ace Chemicals, the Mercenary and her men have taken Nora and Dee there. Dee hands over Victor's old notes, and the Mercenary says that she can't read them and Dee has to show her how it works. When the Mercenary threatens to kill Nora, Dee shows the mercenary the cryochamber stored there.
Mary takes Alice to her clinic and checks her health, and confirms that Alice is fine despite the nanobots. She figures that Alice is faking it, and admits that she was jealous Jacob was apparently writing to Alice but not her. Mary asks if Alice has a lot of delusions, and Alice claims that the postcards were the first time. Alice figures that since Mary couldn't help Luke, Mary is burdening Alice with her "performance issues". She says that Mary is an emotional ticking time bomb, and asks Mary what her issues are. Mary says nothing, and Alice figures that she's in love with Luke. When Mary denies it, Alice advises her to keep it to herself because if Mary tells Ryan, Ryan will ignore her. Alice says that the rest of the Bat Team don't see Mary except when they need her, and it's best that Mary keep her place.
Batwoman sneaks up to the Factory, and spots the guards. Inside, the Mercenary says that the cryochamber will make her client very happy. Nora says that it doesn't work. Dee tells the Mercenary that the chamber works but it will kill the occupant through hypothermia. Nora explains that the freeze substance suspends aging while the subject is it, but they age rapidly once they emerge... and she's still aging. The only way to stop Nora from dying is to refreeze her.
Batwoman takes out one guard and drops in, the Mercenary sends her three remaining thugs to attack Batwoman, and Dee runs off. Once Batwoman takes out the thugs, she directs Nora to Mary's clinic and then goes back to find Nora. More thugs attack Batwoman, and she takes them out one at a time.
the Mercenary finds her men unconscious, and Batwoman confronts her. They fight hand-to-hand, and more thugs arrive. When Batwoman deal with them, the Mercenary knocks her out from behind and puts her in the chamber. The villain says that she'll get to see the chamber in action, and Dee prepares to put in the substance. The Mercenary says that she doesn't want to waste the freeze substance. When Dee warns the Mercenary that without the substance the chamber will fill with cold air Batwoman will die of hypothermia, the Mercenary says that she doesn't care.
Dee refuses to kill Batwoman, and the Mercenary says that she'll have one of her men hunt down Nora if Dee doesn't cooperate. Going to the control, Dee activates the chamber. She refuses to pull the switch, and the Mercenary has one of her men take to the car and throws the switch herself. The chamber fills with cold air, and the Mercenary watches Batwoman's struggles and gloats.
Batwoman calls Luke for help. She has Luke activate the suit's temperature regulator, but Like discovers that it's frozen up and warns Batwoman that she only has ten minutes. Batwoman tells Luke that he needs to suit up as Batwing and find Dee. Luke warns Batwoman that if she passes out it's over, and Batwoman says that she won't and that she promised Nora that she would protect Dee.
Nora makes it to the clinic and Mary examines her. Alice puts a scalpel to Nora's throat and threatens to kill her if Mary doesn't get the nanobots out of her. Mary says that she can't because that's all that's preventing Alice from escaping Gotham. Nora tells Mary to let Alice kill her because she's tired of people sacrificing themselves for her.
Disgusted, Alice lets Nora go. Mary drags Alice aside and asks what's wrong with her. When Mary says that she was being nice to Alice, Alice says that she doesn't want nice. She leaves, and Mary apologizes to Nora. Nora says that she understand Alice, who has been trapped her whole life and now Alice wants her freedom. She tells Mary that Dee has spent too many years trying to fix her, and Nora loves her sister too much to tell her the truth.
Sophie goes to the Batcave and calls Batwoman on the comms, telling her that Batwing is en route. Batwoman warns that she's fading, and Sophie tells Batwoman that she's mad at her because Batwoman was willing to have Sophie find Jada, but then Batwoman shared her feeling with the Bat Team. When Batwoman asks what she should know about Sophie, Sophie checks the monitors and realizes that Batwoman is slipping into hypothermia.
Batwing arrives , knocks out the thugs, and gets Batwoman out of the chamber. The Mercenary grabs the canister and runs, and Batwing tells Sophie that Batwoman will recover.
Batwoman drives the Batmobile with Luke, and Sophie tracks the car via CCTVs. The heroine says that Sophie is clever by keeping her from nodding off, and Luke wonders if his friend is flirting with Sophie. Batwoman angrily denies it, and the Batmobile closes in on the fleeing car. the Mercenary opens the back door and uses the seatbelts as an slingshot, shooting the canister onto the road. Batwoman drives the Batmobile up to it, and the canister explodes as Batwoman backs the Batmobile up.
The explosion blows a gap in the bridge. Batwing gets out, grabs the canister, and sprays the ice onto the bridge, creating an ice bridge that Batwoman drive the Batmobile over.Soophie merely says that it was "interesting", and Batwoman jokingly complains that Sophie is hard to please.
Batwoman snags the Mercenary's van with a line from the Batmobile and drags it to a halt. The Mercenary gets out and holds Dee hostage. Batwoman and Batwing confront the Mercenary, as another car pulls up. After shoving Dee away, the Mercenary gets into the car driven by her thugs and escapes.
When Alice is taken back to her cell in Arkham, she finds small bumps on her arm. They disappear after a moment, and Alice wonders what's happening to her.
Ryan secure what's left of the canister's contents in the Batcave, and tells Luke that it's good he figure out the glitches in his Batwing suit. Mary comes in and says that Luke disabled the failsafe, and a surging heart shuts it down. She says that she shouldn't have cleared Luke for field duty, and put the team at risk. Mary tells Luke and Ryan that she's the team doctor and knows what she's talking about. Ryan points out that she wouldn't be there if Batwing hadn't rescued her.
Mary worries about the next time, and says that Luke has PSTD from being shot. He insists that he doesn't, and Ryan asks him if he's up for it. Luke says that he is, and Ryan tells Mary to keep an eye on Luke. Once Ryan leaves, Mary tells Luke that she had to say something. He says that she didn't and walks away.
Up at the bar, Sophie finds Ryan at a table. She tells him about Marquis's relation to her and his offer. Sophie wonders what Ryan wants, and Ryan says that she wants a mother that loves her unconditionally. When Sophie says that it's Jada's loss, Ryan points out that making Jada an enemy puts everyone she knows at risk, so she has to put the team first and turn down Marquis.
Mary meets Dee and Nora in a park, and gives Nora some medication to make her next few weeks pain-free. As Mary walks away, Nora talks to her sister about how she and Victor had their first date in the same park. Mary turns back and looks at the sisters, and Nora tells Dee that she's been dying her whole life and for once they should enjoy the precious moments they have left.
Vines reach out of the bushes, grab Mary's legs, and drag her back.
