No need to leave the couch to travel to “Harlem.” The comedy series from “Girls Trip” creator Tracey Oliver, about four stylish and ambitious 20-something girlfriends navigating life in New York City’s mecca of Black culture, premiered on Amazon Prime Video December 3.
Meagan Good stars as Camille, a young anthropology professor at Columbia who, despite her extensive knowledge of cultures around the world, has a hard time with her own love life.

With so much reality TV available it’s hard to find concepts where that reality can compel an audience to stick around. Too much conflict can come off as fake or forced. Or there’s the opportunity to go the other way, and make the reality seem particularly real because of a “day in the life” method — which has always been popular in documentary. There’s nothing good that old-fashioned cinema verite can’t achieve. But often that can cause things to feel just as fake or forced, and such is the issue with Amazon Prime Video’s four-part docuseries “Always Jane.”
“Always Jane” follows high school senior Jane Noury, a transgender teen awaiting her gender affirming surgery, planning for college, and stepping into the world of modeling. By her side are her parents, David and Laura, her two sisters, and her grandfather.

Prime Video‘s four-part docuseries Always Jane dives into the inspirational journey of transgender teen Jane Noury and her family as they tackle obstacles with “unconditional love and support,” but their road to acceptance wasn’t always the easiest. For Jane’s father David, the realization of his daughter’s struggles hit hard, especially when she was younger. Jane coming out as trans to her father revealed some of the pain she felt while trying to be his “perfect son” after he pushed her to get involved in sports at an early age. In an exclusive clip ahead of the series premiere, Jane breaks down the father-daughter pair’s journey to building a stronger relationship as their authentic selves. While speaking with friends, Jane discusses her strained relationship with her father, and how coming out to her family allowed her to grow her bond with her father. With “a million pounds” lifted off her chest,...

In the fourth and final episode of Prime Video’s Always Jane, a professor at the School of Visual Arts makes her pitch to Jane Noury, a prospective student with an interest in cinematography. “You will be encouraged to communicate with everything in you,” she says. “There’s so many stories that haven’t been told. You just tell your story your way, unapologetically.”
It’s an inspiring sentiment — and, unfortunately, one that Always Jane itself struggles to live up to. Directed by Jonathan C. Hyde, the docuseries is in many ways a win for representation, positioning ...

Amazon Prime Video’s epic The Lord of the Rings series won’t arrive until 2022. Thankfully, with its list of new releases for November 2021, Amazon has a pretty major fantasy adaptation to hold us over.
The Wheel of Time is set to premiere on Nov. 19 and will bring Robert Jordan’s massive fantasy universe to life. Rosamund Pike stars as Moiraine, a powerful magic-user who guides five young people on a perilous journey around the world. One of them just might be the reincarnation of the Dragon, a powerful entity who could save the world…or destroy it.
